  • What should I do with this girl?

First off, a little about myself. I'm a high school senior who has never had a girlfriend, and my school year is almost over. Two weeks ago, I asked a girl to my senior prom, and she said yes. The reason I asked her was because one of her friends told me she was dying to go to prom with me. During prom, she was dancing really close to me- like, she seemed to be into me, which I had never experienced with a girl before. Then during the slow dance she buried her face into my chest and I hugged her closer- a part of me wanted to kiss her, but since she's not technically my girlfriend I held back. Then our limo took us to after prom, which wasn't that great to be honest- our prom group went ice skating but I didn't do so well and when I found her afterwards she seemed content to hang out with her friends. I texted her when I got home and she agreed to hang out sometime, so I asked her if she wanted to see a movie this weekend and she said yes. I think I am starting to become seriously attracted to her, but I don't know if she still likes me in that way- or if she ever even did. What do you think? Should I pursue a relationship with this girl? What movie should I take her to see? Any other advice you have for me, seeing as I have basically no experience with this kind of thing? Anything helps! - JRG

  • What would the NFL be like today if...?

... Kyle Williams hadn't muffed the punt during the 2011 NFC Championship Game? Do the 49ers go on to win the Super Bowl against New England two weeks later? Does a Lombardi provide incentive for the 49ers to lock up Alex Smith to an expensive, long term deal like the one Flacco got a year later? Is Colin Kaepernick then traded away that offseason since there is no real possibility of him ever becoming the starter? How do the 49ers respond when Smith goes down with a concussion the following year? Does the next season's playoff picture look completely different, possibly leading to a Super Bowl win for Atlanta and a happy retirement for Tony Gonzalez? Or do Russell Wilson and the Seahawks win it all thanks to having a first round bye due to winning the division? What about this season's playoff picture? Are the 49ers in the same position they are today with Alex still under center?

It's a pretty interesting topic to think about, really.

  • Do you think JaMarcus Russell could make it as an offensive lineman?

I heard recently that Russell's comeback attempt has been set back due to struggles with his weight. Since he probably has a high football IQ seeing as he used to play quarterback, do you think he could be an offensive lineman? What about another position? What team do you think could sign him? Is there any hope of him playing QB again?

BQ: Who is more likely to start again in the NFL: JaMarcus Russell or Tim Tebow?

  • Am I a pretty solid bet to get into CU?

I have a 4.28 GPA which will improve to 4.4 if I keep getting all A's through my senior year. I managed the baseball team during my sophomore year and started playing football this year. I am also participating in both Link Crew and NHS. My current ACT composite is a 31, but I am retaking it soon in hopes of getting a 33 or 34. I earned fives on the AP Human Geography, AP US Government and Politics, and AP US History exams, a four on the AP Lang exam, and threes on the AP Physics B and AP French exams.

Based on the information provided, do you think I am a near lock to get into the University of Colorado at Boulder? I plan on applying to several elite schools like Stanford and Yale but I also want to apply to some safety schools so that I am covered in the highly likely event that the Stanfords and Yales all reject me. Should I apply to other safety schools as well, such as St. Mary's College in California, or am I pretty much guaranteed admission into CU? (It's my third choice after Stanford and Yale.) Any information helps. Thanks! - JRG

  • How big of a 36 hole lead does Tiger need to win a major?

Since Tiger obviously plays poorly over the weekend at majors, I am thinking that he will need a huge lead after two rounds to even have a shot. Should ten shots be enough?

  • When will Syfy air Sharknado again?

So I missed the first two times they aired it but I really want to see it. Do you know when they will air it again? If they don't, is there a way I can download it or watch it online? Thanks in advance!

  • What is College Board's official AP retake policy?

So I got my AP scores today, and they were far from good. Only one five (AP US History), followed by a four on the AP Lang, a three on the AP Physics B, and a three on the AP French. I was obviously quite upset when a friend commented on my Facebook status saying that I could always retake the exam.

Are AP retakes offered? If so, when and for how much? Will I be able to make the test up soon enough to send my new score to the college I want to go to?

BQ: If the exam is only offered in May, could I retake it next year and have it sent to the college in question if I am accepted for admission, thus possibly qualifying me for receiving credits from it? Example: I got a four on the AP Lang exam but the college only offers credit for fives. If I get a five on the hypothetical retake, could I send it to them after I am admitted and receive credit? Thanks in advance! - JRG

  • Could Aaron Hernandez have been a Hall of Famer?

Through three seasons with New England, Hernandez caught 175 passes for 1.956 yard, including eighteen touchdowns. Did the former Patriots tight end possess Hall of Fame potential before his arrest and release yesterday?

BQ: Hernandez's arrest marks the 27th time that an NFL player has been arrested since Super Bowl XLVII. Who or what is to blame for the league's high crime rate? Should the NFL be doing more to reduce crime among its players?

  • Can someone please explain this physics problem to me?

There was one problem on the Waves and Optics unit test that I just have no idea how to do. I asked my teacher to explain it to me, but his explanation didn't really help. Here is the problem:

A diverging lens with a focal length of -38.1 cm is placed 15 cm behind a converging lens with a focal length of 20.8 cm. Where will an object at a distance approaching infinity be focused using this lens system? (Your answer will be the position in respect to the second lens- pay attention to the sign of your answer.)

The correct answer is roughly 6.84 cm, if that helps anyone. I need to understand how to do these problems so I can retake the test for a better grade- it was the only one I had no clue on. Thanks in advance! - JRG

  • Do I have a shot at making varsity next season?

I moved from California to my current state when I was in seventh grade. In both seventh and eighth grade, I played middle school basketball for the C level team.

When I entered high school, I initially decided to try out for basketball before being intimidated and quitting after the first few days. I know- it was a poor decision, but I was young and stupid at the time. Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm now in my junior year having never played organized sports in high school, something I'm pretty ashamed of considering my size.

Seeing my school's high school team reach the state final four this year has made me wish that I hadn't quit and even remotely ponder the possibility of a comeback this winter. The thing is, I'm also going to play football this fall, which is a no cut sport so I know for sure I'm going to at least play something in high school. This has the potential to overlap with basketball season, but if I play football I should be able to get into shape for basketball.

I definitely have the size advantage when it comes to basketball- I'm 6'5, almost 6'6. My skills aren't that bad, either- I can get rebounds obviously and I'm pretty good with close up shots. The thing is I lack athleticism- badly. I also obviously lack experience having last played organized basketball in eighth grade, and then for the C level team.

Here's what I was thinking of doing: playing football this fall to build up my athleticism, then trying out for basketball in the winter. Mind you, the basketball program begins having workouts and drills in the summer, but those are mainly conditioning which I would get with football. Do you think it's possible for me to play on varsity if I use football to condition myself while working on my basketball specific skills (such as shooting, rebounding, etc.) over the weekends? Do I have a chance at tryouts? Please be completely honest- I was told to try out for baseball as a sophomore having never played before and ended up embarrassing myself in the process. Even if I don't have a shot at basketball, I would still have football to look forward to: I was just wondering if it was still possible to make a comeback at such a late point.

  • Early Super Bowl predictions?

I have Kaepernick and the Niners beating Manning and the Broncos, 34-28. Kaepernick has already beaten Brees, Brady, and Rodgers: next year, it's Peyton Manning's turn.

  • Did I make the right decision in doing this?

I'm currently a junior in high school. When I was a sophomore, I tried out for my school's baseball team having never played before. Of course, I was cut from the team. However, the program's head coach allowed me to remain with the program as a manager. To be honest, I was really more of a coach's assistant than anything else- all I really did was do stats on the coach's iPad and help set up the team's equipment. But I digress.

This year, I had planned on actually making the junior varsity team. Of course, I had no chance, but my sense of hubris allowed me to buy over $100 worth of equipment thinking my spot on the team was a sure bet. Meanwhile, a bunch of my friends on my school's football team started telling me I should play football my senior year. Keep in mind, I've never played this before either. However, I have the right build for it: I'm roughly 6'5 and weigh over 230 pounds. Plus, football is a no cut sport at my school, so I am guaranteed to make the team: it's just a question of whether or not I get playing time.

Anyway, back to baseball. So I walk into tryouts on day one, and reality throws a brick at my head: around ninety kids were trying out for sixty spots, and I was only eligible for thirty of them since I could only make either junior varsity or varsity. Seeing as I was competing against kids who had played the game their entire life and were miles better than I could ever hope to be, I asked the head coach if I had any shot at actually playing that year. He basically said that no, I would not be playing, but that it would be good for me to be at tryouts so I could bond with the varsity kids who I would manage again that year. (I had "managed" varsity the year before, too.)

The next day, I decided that I was going to quit baseball tryouts since I had no chance of making the team and join football's early winter workouts for the coming season. You see, my school's offensive line is supposedly weak this season, and I think I have a good chance of starting or at least seeing a lot of time if I commit to the program early on. The problem is that this means I cannot manage baseball anymore, since I will be preoccupied with football workouts. The baseball program was obviously quite upset by this decision, but the football program seems glad to have me on as a new member.

Did I make the right decision in dropping baseball for football? Do I have a decent (as in below fifty percent but still reasonable) chance of starting this season, or at least getting a lot of playing time? Will playing senior football help me get into colleges for academics, considering that I have a 4.22 GPA? Any information helps. - JRG

  • Is a tuxedo really necessary for junior prom?

I was looking on the calendar for the date of my junior prom when my mom approached me and told me that I would need to rent a tuxedo. However, I already have a really nice gray suit that I was planning to wear- are tuxedos really necessary if you're a junior? I mean, what's the difference between a nice gray suit and a tuxedo anyway? Girls can wear dresses of almost any color they want- I should be able to get by with a gray suit.

BQ: How soon should I ask the girl I'm planning to ask? My mom wants me to ask her ASAP, but I'd rather wait until a few weeks before. Do you have any suggestions as to how I should ask her?

  • What would have happened had Kennedy not been assassinated?

Suppose that John F. Kennedy wasn't assassinated that fateful afternoon in Dallas. How would American history have been affected as a result? Would he have won reelection in 1964? Would his legacy have been tarnished by the Vietnam War the way Johnson's was? What would have become of the Civil Rights Act? How would America be different today without the Kennedy assassination taking place?

  • Will UCLA intentionally lose to Stanford so they don't have to face Oregon for the Pac 12 Championship?

I mean, sure, Stanford beat Oregon, but there is not a doubt in my mind that the Ducks are a stronger team. (This coming from a diehard Cardinal fan.) If I were UCLA, I would intentionally let Stanford win this Saturday so that I'd be able to face them a second time for the Pac 12 Championship rather than beat Stanford and have to face Oregon. (Assuming Oregon beats Oregon State, that is.)

What do you think? Will the Bruins throw the game this Saturday so that they can face Stanford instead of Oregon for the Pac 12 Championship?

  • How do I send Scott Rolen a thank you card in the mail?

When Scott Rolen's fielding blunder allowed the Giants to go up 2-1 in game three of the NLDS, I swore that I would send him a thank you card in the mail if the Giants won all three games to advance to the NLCS. The problem is, I cannot find his mailing address anywhere. How can I send Scott Rolen a thank you card for allowing the Giants to come back and win all three games?

  • Where can I get free parental controls for my other account?

I'm currently a junior in high school and I decided to make a separate account on my computer that will be used solely for homework. The only problem is that my computer's default parental control setting only allows for control over the other account's use of programs within the computer and not the web, which is what I want to regulate. (I often get distracted by Facebook and whatnot, so I will need to block out certain sites ONLY for my other account.) Where can I get a free parental control system that will allow me to block certain websites for my other account, which I will use for homework and nothing else? Can anyone help me on this? Thanks- JG

  • Will Lincecum take back his role as the ace of the Giants by the end of the season?

Lincecum has looked sharp his past few outings, while Cain hasn't been the same after his perfect game. By the end of the season, will Lincecum once again be the best pitcher on the staff?

  • Can someone please explain this physics problem to me?

The speed, v, of an object is given by the equation v=At^3–Bt, where t refers to time. What are the dimensions of A and B?

Since v is velocity, I can replace it with (m/s) or meters per second. Also, I can replace t with s since it is time in seconds. So my new equation is (m/s)=As^3-Bs.

Now here is my problem. The next step is supposed to get me to (m/s)=m/s-m/s, which I don't understand at all. Then, I'm supposed to solve the following for each:

    A. m/s^4*s^3=m/s so therefore A=m/s^4

    B. m/s^2*s=m/s so therefore B=m/s^2

I could just copy the answers from the answer key, but then I wouldn't understand it. Can someone please explain this to me so that I can actually understand it? Thanks -JG
