  • have you ever though about this?

    most of us will go to the fish store and lets say spend $20-$30 on a saltwater fish, and lets say $10-$15 on a freshwater fish

    and usually without think twice and sometimes even more for a fish you really like.

    but then you go to a seafood restaurant and ask how much the salmon or halibut is and you shake your head with a comment to the mind thats too much,

    yet you pay more for fish that you cant eat than fish you can eat

    this was just thought to the mind, easy 2 pts

  • Is my tin foil barb sick or injured?

    1 of my tin foil barb has a lot of scales missing, also all his fins are torn (top, side and tail),

    and he swims with his head a bit tilted down with tail up, just a slight tilt,

    the fish is eating.

    i have 2 other tin foil barbs, they do have a few scales missing but not nearly as much thats cuz they play 24 hrs nudging each other, their fins are fine and they dont swim tilted

    im gonna assume it is dead, cuz i can find it, ive turned every piece of object in the tank looking for it. and its not stuck on the filter

    the only thing in the tank is a turbo snail, a clownfish, and a cleaner shrimp,

    my guess is the shrimp ate it, can a cleaner shrimp eat an entire small 1" fish?

  • 7 saltwater fish died within 2 weeks?

    the tank had been running great since may-jun with fish and has cycled, live rock, dead coral

    fish died: 1 bannerfish, 3 yellow tail damsel, 1 bicolor angel, 1 striped damsel, 1 blue tang

    2 fish the 1st week, 5 fish a week later after a water change

    did a water change after the 1st 2 fish died

    i took the water in for testing:

    4 ph readings = 7.7 & 7.9 digital meter, 8.8 & 8.9 test tube

    nitrite= 0

    nitrate= 5.0

    ammonia=0

    water temp= 78 degrees

    salinity= 1.25-1.26

    3 in tank 30 gal filters

    1 heater

    1 air pump

    1 hood light runs for 8 hrs

    no visual signs of ich, all the fish ate except for the banner fish

    i still have 1 clownfish, 1 royal gramma, 1 cleaner shrimp & 1 turbo snail

    the last fish added to the group was the bannerfish and it wouldnt eat, the banner was the 1st to die, then the rest started dieing

    in my opinion i think the bannerfish brought in something to my tank,

    i contacted the pet store that i got the banner fish from, of course they said it couldnt be the bannerfish, they are gonna replace the banner fish, but the rest of my tank im out of luck

    any ideas what could of wiped out my tank

  • salinity what is the safest way to adjust it?

    tank 1 (fish only): if the salinity is 1.17-1.18 how do you raise it?

    tank 2 (live rock with fish): if the salinity is 1.25-1.26 how do you lower it?

    the safe zone on the hydrometer is 1.20-1.23

    im gonna order a refractometer today

    do you think these readings are ok?

    or do you think they need to be adjusted?

    and how do i adjust the salinity safely?

    thankx for input

  • How much kwh are my fish tanks using per day and how much $?

    lets say all my fish tanks together is running 600 watts

    which is the average figuring that the heaters most likely do not run for more than 1 hr per day

    how much kwh per day is that?

    about how much will it cost per day?

    this doesnt include the hood lights

    so that would be more watts, lets say running the lights for 5 tanks for 9 hours

    85 gal

    60 gal

    20 gal

    17 gal

    5 gal

    super big thankx for helping me figure this out

    my previous post got spammed trying to post it again

    no spam please or crashing my post with junk
