How much/will a bad payment lessen its impact on your credit score as it ages over time?
About two years ago I had a payment go to collections(somehow i missed it). I immediately payed it off but unfortunately it had already done some major damage to my credit score. My question is as this sinks further into the past will it have less of an affect on my credit score or will it remain the same till the seven year time window has expired and it is removed entirely? If it does start to weaken about how old does it have to be before this affect is noticeable?
Background: I am hoping to purchase my first house within a year or two and have been taking steps to improve all other aspects of my credit score(utilization, age, mix, ect) The weakest of my scores is experian around a 695, but i do not believe i can improve it anymore with the aforementioned collections holding it down. Any detail you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
2 AnswersCredit6 years agoCredit score help. Impact of late payments.?
I have a debt that went to collections about 2 years ago now. I paid it off and am good now. My question is will a bad debt gradually have less affect on my credit score as it ages or will it be the exact same until it expires after the 7 years?
2 AnswersCredit6 years agoCredit score question. How much does a collections impacts on credit score fade over time?
A little over a year ago I had an account go to collections(I thought someone else had paid it and apparently they did not). I immediately paid the collection agency. Since then one of my credit reports(experian) has been about 100 points lower than the other 2 reports that somehow never got reported to. I am thinking of purchasing a house in the near-ish future and would like the best possible credit score when I do so. I have heard that a single mark against your credit will diminish over time, but I have seen no improvement over the last year. I have 2 credit cards active with about a 20% utilization and never miss a payment. Will I have to wait the whole 7 years for the experian credit report to show any improvement, or will it start to improve slowly soon?
I would really appreciate any input from someone who actually understands credit scores. I have read details online but only really have superfluous knowledge.
3 AnswersCredit6 years agoQuestion over disputed credit report.?
I recently disputed a negative claim against me on my EQUIFAX credit report. After a month of review EQUIFAX claimed the claim was being removed from my report. My question is do I need to make the same dispute claim to other major credit score companies, or should it propagate out by itself?

This is probably pointless. For the last 10 minutes or so every question i have opened has been deleted. Anyone know why?

I was told it is illegal to shoot a bow and arrow in my town. I want to practice shooting into a earthen bank in my yard. Is there somewhere I can look to confirm this law so a cop doesn't stop by and correct me?

Help with selling stock.?
I am looking into selling the stock I was gifted to pay for the upcoming semester, but I am not entirely sure how to precede. I have half the stock in physical certificates. The other half is held in digital format by the companies(OTTR,IDA).
1) Do I need to go to a broker and loose the fee he would charge?
2) How do I go about selling the virtual half?
3) If I do end up going to a broker do I have to get the virtual half sent to him?
I want to lose as little of the money as possible. I also have an e-trade account if that can be useful.

2 AnswersInvesting8 years agoRecovering Hard Drive Help?
I accidentally forgot to remove my encryption from my hard drive before re-installing my Windows OS. I used true crypt software in the encryption process. The re-install appears to have removed the true crypt software, and during the automatic restart during the install the software keeps telling me that no OS is found. I believe the information should still be there if I can find a way to decrypt the hard drive. I am currently booted form a second hard drive and can view the encrypted one, but the computer views it as unformatted(as expected). I know that true crypt makes you make a back-up / recovery disk when you first encrypt, but I moved houses since then and am unable to locate the disk I make(still trying though).
Do you know if it is possible to tell the computer to un-encrypt the drive without the recovery?

1 AnswerOther - Hardware8 years agoNeed help finding web site that compares graphics cards and what quality games can run on them.?
A while back someone showed me a website that allows you to enter the pc games you are interested in playing and it gives you a side by side comparison of the different graphics cards that are out on the market and at what quality they can run the games at. I have been trying to find it(or one similar) again now for a while, but have had little luck. Does anyone know the site i am talking about?
Video & Online Games8 years agoTrouble resorting ipod touch 3rd gen?
I purchased an ipod off of ebay and the previous owner appears to have done some serious jailbreaking on it. I am attempting to restore the ipod but can not force it into restore mode or dfu mode. I now how to do both and have never had trouble with them before. I can only imagine the last owner went in and changed the coding for some reason. When I connect the ipod to itunes it tells me that the password must be entered on the ipod before it can sync, but i dont have the password. After enough failed attempts it tells me i must sync it with itunes.
I dont believe i will be able to access the ipod through conventional means. Can anyone recommend something i may have overlooked or third party software that can go in and force a restore on the ipod even though its locked?
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players9 years agoComputer repairs. Desperately need advice.?
Lately, my computer has been having issues and freezing when i start it up. One of my friends recommended I pull the battery to reset the bios. After doing this the computer lost the ability to log back into windows. Whenever I try it tells me to "Reboot and Select proper Boot device." I tried to re-install windows 7 onto a drive but the installer can not see any of the computers hard drives(with the exception of an external usb drive). The hard drives are sata and i believe that is part of the issue.
I have looked all around the internet and found a few sites that recommend the installation of drivers to fix the problem. If so i cant figure out how to do it without access to windows. The actual windows install offers you the option of importing drivers but i cant figure out what is needed. When i scan the system nothing shows up
My computers motherboard is an asus P5QL-VM EPU.
I really need some help. I have been working on this issue for over 12 hours now, am tired and feel no closer to solving it.
Additional Details:
Here is the asus page for the motherboard: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/...
I have removed all hard drives except the one i intend to be using. I also reconfigured the boot order as DVD, harddrive, external. It does not appear to have had any effect. I still get the select proper boot device message and still cant see the drive in the install.
I hope this issue is not related to the hard drive failing, but i have multiple drives in the computer and they all seem to behaving the same(regardless of what combination is actually plugged in at the time) I would think the issue is more closely related to the motherboard.
Also, even though the drives are not visible in the windows installer, they are visible in the BIOS. I am not certain why this is.
