  • does anyone else find it annoying how genres change meaning?

what i mean is how eventually a genre is unrecognisable to what it started as.

the best examples of this are:

look at R&B, it's an extension of blues but these days it's just auto-tuned pop garbage

and Hardcore, it's originated from the punk scene with bands like minor threat, now it means any generic modern metal band

  • any hip-hop bands like...?

hey i'm not looking for that shallow top 40 kanye west, lil wayne bullshit

i want hip hop/rap acts with real talent, meaning: lyrics that are about more than sex/guns/money, more than just a shitty garage band beat in the background (ie. actual music), and NO auto-tune.

hip hop i like so far is stuff like:

    hilltop hoods

hybrid theory (linkin park before they were called linkin park, was alot more hip hop based then their current stuff)

i'm currently looking up fort minor, grips and tonic and louise knuxx so dont suggest them

    thanks in advance

  • why do YOU thing most people hate screaming/growling vocals?

i am personally a fan of most musical genres (not of mainstream or "manufactured" stuff though)

though i am very partial to hardcore and deathmetal i am one of the first to admit that it is an acquired taste. what i can not understand is how people can dismiss it as "real music" so quickly and openly hate it while expecting fans of metal to listen to their taste of music with out compliant.

BQ: what band/artist would you suggest to someone asking for "real music"? for me it would be orbs (beautiful prog with amazing melodies)

  • metalheads: what is the most brutal band you can think off?

    from these sub-genres:

    black metal:

    death metal:

    mathcore:

    hardcore:

    deathcore:

    prog/experimental:

    classic:

    for me it would be:

black metal: abigail williams (not that brutal but definitely the best)

death metal: whitechapel (pretty predictable answer but they own so, meh)

mathcore: jack the stripper (local aussie band, definitely worth checking out)

hardcore: walls of jericho (thats real hardcore there)

    deathcore: here comes the kraken

    prog/experimental: rolo tomassi

    classic: anvil

  • most underrated band, and why?

for me it would be Eleventh He Reaches London. they're a prog band from australia and they are absolutely amazing. their being underrated is partly there fault though because even they themselves admit they're terrible at promoting themselves haha.

BQ: best band that you don't think many other people would like?

mines Rolo Tomassi, they're an english experimental hardcore band, that use a lot of extremely fast/complicated synth melodies and sometimes verge on a noise band.

they get great reviews but the public doesn't seem to pay any attention to them.

  • question about the rapid decline of main stream music?

alright basically i've noticed that since the early '90s chart music has gone downhill, fast.

in the '70s and '80s we were getting stuff like led zep and depeche mode in the charts and in the early '90s we had nirvana. since the however we have gone from the horrible pop era of the late '90s with crap like the spice girls and Brittany spears to the early '00s poser punk with bands like good charlotte, and if that wasn't enough we were then attacked by fall out boy and my chemical romance followed by more Disney sell-outs with jonas brothers and Miley cyrus.

i thought this new decade would bring the return of decent music but instead we now have justin beiber clogging our airwaves, all reminds me why i stopped listening to the radio...

your opinions/explanations of this disgrace to music?

  • what band has the most intelligent lyrics you've heard?

just interested to know who people think have the most intelligent lyrics, for me it's:

    molotov solution (very political lyrics)

orbs (story songs with great imagery)

between the buried and me (often cryptic lyrics)

house vs. hurricane (lyrics about making yourself a better person)

system of a down (often weird but still genius)
