  • What to feed an english mastiff. ?

We just got a year old English mastiff. He is on science diet right now. I am wondering what to feed him. We would like to look into showing him, but he has some scars on his paws and legs that are pretty obvious, so showing may be a waste of time? Any other hints about this breed would be greatly appreciated.

  • What to do to start Bulldog program, from scratch in Utah?

I posted earlier about wanting info to start breeding bulldogs, there was one person who was particularly helpful and I chose his answer, but for some reason it was erased and he said I could contact him, I would love to be able to get a hold of this guy.

My question is where do I start looking for puppies worth investing in? I live in Utah right now. I am very new to this, but we did just adopt a bulldog that was abandoned, as someone suggested we start with a rescue first.

I don't need snotty replies from people who think they are better than me because I am new to this. If you did not see my previous questions here is my situation. We have a small farm, a year old son, a five year old chihuahua mix and some chickens in the yard. I would like to get into breeding, maybe, so I am trying to figure out where to start. All the puppies I am finding so far are AKC registered, but how do I find someone with a champion that would be breeding them in the next couple years? How much should I be looking to invest?

I am in touch with the Bulldog Club of Utah, that is where we got our new bulldog from. He is fixed and about 4 years old, he was left behind on the street when his owners moved and there are some issues with him from neglect, but he is doing really well with our family so far. We have him on a weight food right now but I can't seem to get people to agree on the type of food we should put him on, I am very confused because some claim Science Diet is the best, but from what I have read it is not the best. Then people have said to keep the protein down, what percent of protein should I be looking at? Any other info will be really great!

  • Adopted a bulldog need some advice?

Last week I posted a question about breeding bulldog, someone suggested we start by adopting one now and continue to get to know the breed, in several years see if this is what we really want to do, so we adopted an abandoned 4 year old, 63 lb, neglected bulldog. Obviously he is overweight, so what do you suggest we do about the weight?

2 I guess the previous owners let his claws grow so long that they grew back into his paws, the vet clipped them and fixed him before we met him. It has been 2 weeks now and the poor guy is obviously still having pain in his feet. What can we do to help him?

3 we have a 5 year old Chihuahua mix we adopted a few months ago. He is showing alight signal of jealousy and they take turns guarding the bag of dog from each other, any suggestions other than obviously stopping them when they start to stand by the bag of food?

4 how do I find dog shows in Utah so we can become more familiar with bulldog and really know if showing and breeding is what we want to do eventually?

  • Starting from scratch, what do i need to do to start breeding bulldogs?

We have a little farm and after much consideration my husband and I are looking into breeding bulldogs and so now I am in the research stage, I would appreciate any feedback. First off here is our situation.

We have a year old son, 2 outside cats, 2 goats, 4 chickens and one Chihuahua mix male that is fixed. I am a stay at home mom.

Our son has learned very quickly to be gentle and loving with our animals and just loves to put his head on them.

We don't have a lot of money but with our income tax return we expect a few thousand dollars and we were thinking we could invest in a bulldog and eventually breed it. We were considering a female. I have talked to a few people and researched the personalities and found that they are very compatible with our family. I have had experience with pit bulls so I know how to handle stubbornness, but never raised one from a pup.

So where should we start? How do we choose a good dog? Should we just try to find a full grown dog or start with a pup? Which of the bulldog would be the least liking to have issues? I am not interested in American bulldog, only English, old English and French.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And yes they will be kept inside with our other dog most of the time other than when we do chores outside. And crater when we are not home.

  • Are we right to demand respect from our families?

Here is the deal, my mother in law is very .... well just likes things her way and has the habit of putting aside how others feel so that she can get what she wants. She is not very supportive of my husband in a way that is good for him, there is always something that he needs to do because she thinks she knows what is best for us. He is not contact with her as much as he used to before we met and she tries to guilt trip him about that, thankfully he has learned that he doesn't have to buy into that anymore. She wants us to spend vacation time with the entire family and I am not a real big fan of everyone in the family. There is too much drama all the time. My husband told her that he demands that she treat him with respect by treating him like a man, rather than a child. Her response was that he can't do that. Does anyone else find that crazy? I just don't get it. She went on to say that we are crazy about respect but we are disrespectful to the family because we don't want to spend time with them. She also says that we need to be more understanding of family and tolerant. By constantly telling people how to live their life isn't that being intolerant as well? We don't have a lot of money and we enjoy a pretty simple life, we want to avoid the drama of too much interactions and accumulating more debt by going to visit people who make us feel bad. We have told them they are welcome to come to our home as long as they are respectful to us, but we were criticized for that as well.

So I question is what is so wrong with setting boundaries with people who do not have a positive effect on us?

Is it ok to say, "you need to treat me with respect, but if that is not possible then we will just have to limit our interactions with you."?

And please could someone please explain her point of view, I just don't get it! How is it wrong to demand respect?
