  • Is this a good piece of writing for getting a corn snake?

I would like to get a corn snake and my parents are not too keen on it. Is this a good proposition to them?

Corn snakes are beautiful creatures that make a wonderful display and are also low-maintenance pets to keep. In the next few paragraphs, I will provide a detailed explanation on why to bet a pet snake, the cost and the care that needs to be provided for these interesting reptiles.

All snakes are beautiful and unique in their own way. This means that they are extremely pretty to look at (like fish) but are much more interesting. Unlike some snakes, corn snakes are not deadly and are very unlikely to harm you. We currently have a fish tank that is unused but it will be the perfect habitat for one of these interesting animals and all that will need to be added is a heating system and the snake will have a nice and cosy home. So, why not use that tank instead of wasting its beauty by leaving it in the basement, untouched?

Unlike other reptiles, corn snakes are extremely low maintenance and only need to be fed once or twice every two weeks with frozen rodents. Although they are easy to care for, their habitat will need to be completely cleaned out once a month (done by me) and its faeces or shed skin should be removed when found. The only time you would need to take care of the animal is if I am ever away for more than a few days and also, on summer vacation, when Papa returns, he will have to feed the snake and scoop up it’s skin and/or faeces. Otherwise, I will care for and feed the snake.

The materials needed to care for a corn snake are a tank (already got), a heating system, the actual snake, a water bowl, frozen rodents, sand, a small plastic tank (for when cleaning the tank), and decorations for inside the tank. The estimated price for all the equipment is around $120 to start. Every few months, new food will be needed which is $59.99 for a pack of 100 small rodents. After about a year, a new bulb will be needed for heating the tank, which will cost about $12. The corn snakes can be bought at the Petco nearest to our house, which is situated at 3756b Roswell Road

    Atlanta, GA 30342

In my opinion, a reasonable amount for you to help fund for the corn snake is 1/3, which would mean you pay $40 to start off. I would pay $80, which would come out of my own allowance. After getting started, the only major purchases would be food for the corn snake. 1/3 of the total price of the food would mean that you would pay $20. I would pay for all minor accessories to care for the snake.

In conclusion, getting a corn snake would be easy and simple and you would not have to care for the pet much except for on rare occasions when I am not in Atlanta for more than 2 weeks. Snakes are lovely creatures (not evil) and would be a great animal to have at the house.
