  • In what order should I watch the Planet of the Apes movies?

I haven't seen any movie of the Planet of the Apes franchise, so I just want to know which one I should watch first, second, third and so on so that I properly understand the evolution of the story.

    Thanks,

  • Where can I learn Russian?

Recently I've been thinking about learning a 3rd language and possibly a 4th.

I originally was flip-flopping between Arabic and Russian, and I have finally settled on Russian.

    The only problem is....

I don't know where to start

Quick Sidenote: I'm not looking for the quick, easy, dirty way. I really want to engage myself in the learning process.

Please don't recommend any software (like Rosetta Stone). I've looked into it and it only acts as a "jumping point" and I don't want that type of learning experience. I want to have preferably a classroom setting where I can learn about the language and culture.

Problem is - that my university doesn't offer Russian, and I'm not sure where to go. I've budgeted about 5 years for learning the new language, I just need a place to start.

    Thanks,

  • Cars for a roadtrip? Advice?

    Hey hey!

    Backstory:

3 of my good buddies and I are going on a roadtrip this upcoming spring break and we have agreed to put forth the money needed to make it a killer trip.

To start out, we want to get a really cool roadtrip car -

So I searched google for "best road trip cars" and I kept getting dumb results like a $30k "Family Car" or "Ford Mustangs"

First off - We dont have that money

Second - Those sound like really lame cars for a road trip

Now, the only thing we are mutually interested in is getting a late 80's 4Runner. Just because it sounds like a nice cool road trip car that we can all fit in comfortably, and it doesn't have all the lame amenities that take away from the real purpose and experience of an authentic road trip with friends.

We aren't really looking for "the picturesque" road trip or even the most comfortable we just want a memorable adventure.

SO! This is where you impart your knowledge!

What are some really good road trip cars/vans/SUV's etc.. and any other advice that you can give possibly from your past experiences?

    Coolio!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Stem Cell Research, can you help?

    Hello,

So I need to write an essay that poses two sides of one topic - in this case it's Stem Cell Research.

However, Stem Cell Research by itself is HUGE and I need to focus my topic and I just want to see if I could get some good idea topics to bounce off of.

    Thanks,

  • My computer is running poorly, can you help?

    Hello there,

Backstory: I bought my laptop about 2 years ago and I've noticed recently that it's overall performance has dropped

ie: Slower processing, boot-up time, intermittent internet errors, and overall lackluster performance.

Now I know that no computer is always safe from virus infection and I know that after frequent use for more than a year that certain things compile and without proper maintenance (defrag, etc.) that it can get slower.

I'm just looking to (for the lack of a better term) clean it: help restore it's fast reliable processing, get rid of viruses and malware without jeopardizing my information and programs.

It's not to the point where it would need a cleansweep safe mode factory setting yada yada yada operation.

Now to the point: What would you recommend I do.... (It's okay if it costs money)

I was thinking of bringing it to geeksquad or something.

P.S. I have Norton Anti-V and I have done full system scans and it seems mildly effective.

    Thanks,

  • Can you recommend a good scotch?

    Hello,

I'm helping my friend move into his new house and I offered to christen the place with a nice bottle of scotch.

    The only problem:

I don't know "scotchs" at all, I'm more of a whisky man myself.

Now this purchase is nice and normally I'm all for trying to save money and cut corners, but I really am looking to spend about $100 give or take on a really quality scotch. One that we can, in the coming days, use to "immortalize" any grandeur event the may ensue.

Now I don't know their preferences but I'm going to assume that they don't want one that is too sugary or "flavored".

I think that they just want a flavorful, full-bodied, smooth scotch.

    Thanks,

  • Favorite thought inducing bands?

First off, I'm not looking for you to tell me your favorite band, I want you to really search your library for those couple bands where you almost feel entranced by their hypnotic message and style.

There are bands, then there are Bands! I'm talking about the ones whos melodies and rhythms synthesize into a singular complex deep-thought provoking aggregate.

    My top have to be:

    TOOL (#1 by far!!!)

    Meshuggah not too far behind

Between the Buried and Me (has it's moments, like obfuscation, but i'm not 100% sure I want them on the list)

Oh well, regardless, lets hear 'em!

  • Does anybody else understand the Monty Hall Paradox?

In case you aren't familiar with the Monty Hall Paradox:

In a nutshell: You're on a game show, and you're given the choice of 3 doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

It took me forever to understand but I actually agree, it is to your advantage to switch after he has shown you a loser door!

  • Guitar question Help?

I have been playing guitar for about 8 years now and I have had quite the exciting plethora of guitars throughout those years. However, recently I've been desperately on the hunt for a new "breed" of guitar (as opposed to my previous preference: metal).

I'm essentially searching for a guitar that can produce a very "weepy" tone, and I mean a VERY "weepy" tone. Kind of like the tone you would hear off of a PEDAL STEEL GUITAR, but I don't want to have to learn a new instrument, I already know way to many as it is.

So anyways, if you have any ideas or even clues of which guitar, or what kind, brand, etc. That would be GREAT! Even if you could direct me to a pedal that can produce this effect, I will be forever in your debt (figuratively)

    Thanks,

  • Why does it appear that all English people hate Americans?

I apologise in the beginning for any fractious remarks or undertones the purpose of this question is purely oblique a.k.a (just for fun, and no hate):

I'm sorry but it seems like everywhere I venture to there seems to be this heated contention between English individuals towards Americans; as you would expect the internet is littered with flagrant wise-cracks, so that comes as no surprise but on the other hand the numerous accounts of this occuring don't lie. This lead me to conduct my own "mini-investigation" if you will in a miserly attempt to justify this unending malevolent banter, and to my dismay I couldn't find any viable argument that expands beyond the realms of pure opinion or personal preference.

For example: The most popular "reasons" (and I use that term lightly) claimed that they didn't like Americans because of their accent, or because of how they stand politically. While despite their complaisance or not, those arguments are insubstantial.

On the other hand, one English gentleman did pose a more "political activist" defense against Americans claiming he does not like them because the country refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol treaty. Which initially emerges as a credible exposition, however even this argument falls through because after careful examination: America didn't turn down Kyoto Protocol so they could give a "middle-finger" to the environment, but they did it based of the CBA of the regulations that would be put forth. In a sense, this gentleman would be chastising America for protecting itself through a intelligible decision.

So I ask, unless I am completely wrong and just see the "bad-apples" and "trash-talkers" of English society, without hate, just what is it with Americans that cause for so much hatred from the English.
