total over $11,000 and on 2 checks i put in the memo the word "loan". he admits that i loaned the money to his company as a "dba".

he signed and cashed the checks. now he says "i will get my money" and that we had a contract. we may have had a verbal agreement that he would pay me back but nothing was ever put on paper and signed that i can remember.

this is still less then a year problem for me and he is very hostile about getting me my property and money. he is also holding some small items of mine and wont return those things either.

originally the money was for us to fund a business together but still had no papers drawn up with any terms. so i trusted him. lol

what i need to know is, do i have to get a lawyer?, because of the dollars involved, too much for small claims court?

i do have copies of the checks from the bank and copies of the "text" messages he and i have had showing his comments.

im looking for some semi-legal advice and not just opinions, but any thing would be helpful.

i dont care who gets into the office. we need this to get spending in control. when we will let the politicians know they cant spend us into debt anymore.
