  • Why do people get upset when politicians or laws that are made are against their personal opinions?

I find it odd that the forums are filled with name calling and trivial questions about "the left" or "the right" or "Socialist" or whatever other silly things that people have to say about politics. This never looks like a true political forum because its full of people trying to ask rhetorical and insulting questions about the political party that they oppose. Why can't people realize that at no point will every adult voter in the United States be satisfied with every politician that gets elected and every political decision that is made? Why can't this be a real forum where actual political questions are asked and discussed?

  • My Step Daughter is acting out other parents and step parents please help!?

My step daughter is 11 years old. She lives with my husband and I because her mother was found to be unfit when she was 2 years old. I met my husband 3 years ago and we were married this year. Since our engagement (when I moved in) my step daughter has been out of control. She takes my clothes and shoes sometimes without asking. She borrowed some of my earrings and lost them. She complains about rules and consequences. She listens to terrible music that is vulgar for her age. She dresses in clothes to tight and when I ask her to change because its inappropriate she uses the excuse that her mother bought them. She even steals my bath products and uses them up and denies ever having seen them even though the empty containers are in her trash. She talks and texts boys when she isn't supposed to and speaks to them about sexual things. And she is also very rude to me. I am baffled about what to do. My husband has spoken with her about her attitude and her behavior, I have told her that she is loved and I have talked about the expectations that she needs to follow. She told her father that she doesn't like me and wants to go live with her mother. What should I do? Is there anything I can do? Is a girl her age supposed to be talking to boys? Am I over reacting?

  • Is there still sexual discrimination against females in the hiring process?

I was recently sitting in on a meeting where a construction company and the owner of the project were trying to increase numbers of minority and females from the community (an urban community) where this building is being constructed. The community leaders were trying to ask that the construction company increase the numbers of female workers on the site however they seemed rather ambivalent to do so. So is there still sexual discrimination in the hiring process in other peoples opinions?

  • How do I deal with my confused step daughter?

I have a confused 11 year old step daughter. My husband has full custody of her and she lives here. She went to visit her mother two months ago. Before that she had not seen her mother in 2 years. when her dad and I started dating she was very clingy. Our whole engagement she called me "mommy" and was vry clingy, changing her outfit to match mine, wanting to go everywhere i did, where all the same brands, and I did not mind because she did not have her mom around and I never had someone idolize me so much so i thought it was kind of cool. I hav a 3 year old daughter from a previous relationship and they got along great. Then she went to see her mom two months ago and came back angry and asking to stay with her mom . My husband was hurt that she wanted to leave because he spoils her here and her mother has nothing, and we have great structure here and her mom has not structure and lets the children that live with her go crazy. we reside 9 hours away from her mother. He refused to let her go and i gave no opinion on it. Now she acts mean toward me and my daughter when my husband is gone but when he is home she plays with my daughter and tries to hang around me. Its confusing. She shuts her door and talks loudly to her mother about how she hates me, how I am such a nerd, about how its bad that I keep in shape and so i must be anorexic because I watch what I eat. Its getting hectic and now my 3 year old is going to school saying that her sister is mean and she hates her. Her attitude is getting worse and now my husband is considering sending her to her mother. Are there any good techniques to deal with her behavior.

  • Why would anyone be afraid of Palin?

I have read numerous questions and answers stating that supporters of the Obama campaign are afraid of Palin...why would anyone be afraid of Palin?

We can look at the experience level and see who may be afraid. College and graduate school work comparisons. He was elected into the SENATE IN 1996 Palin became a city Councilor in 1992...

Both of their careers began within four years of each other and they were on completely different levels. What are people counting as experience now?

  • Why focus on a name? ?

I cannot understand why there are so many people that chose to focus on Obama's name rather than his stance on the issues. A name does not make who you are. I know several people that have Irish names but do not fall in to all Irish stereotypes. I know several Maria's that are not your typical hispanic female.

Today I saw on YA that if you misspell Obama's name it will have the number 666 in it and last week i saw a question wondering what people would rather name their child (Barack or John).

    How petty can people be?

Why do some people place so much emphasis on a name?

  • Why do Republican's have so many sterotypes of what a Democrat/Liberal is?

Why is it that all Republicans think that Democrats/Liberals are in non-working lazy people that depend on the government and want that support to continue?

According to Princeton A liberal is...

broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant ...

having political or social views favoring reform and progress

tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition

a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties

big: given or giving freely; "was a big tipper"; "the bounteous goodness of God"; "bountiful compliments"; "a free handed host"; "a handsome allowance"; "Saturday's child is loving and giving"; "a liberal backer of the arts"; "a munificent gift"; "her fond and openhanded grandfather"

free: not literal; "a loose interpretation of what she had been told"; "a free translation of the poem"

a person who favors an economic theory of laissez-faire and self-regulating markets.

Why is it that all Republicans think that Democrats/Liberals are in non-working lazy people that depend on the government?

  • Would you vote for a candiate that would run the country based on personal beliefs or what is better...?

    for the country?

When the candidates state opinions that are indicative of their personal feelings on certain issues does anyone feel that they may make decisions ( i.e. religion) based on personal emotions rather than on what is better for the United States?

I am speaking in terms or foreign policy, abortion, the economy, gay marriage etc.

Keep in mind all people do not bear the same religious beliefs or personal values as others however, in my opinion, this country's laws should reflect equal rights.

  • Why bash the other candidate?

I am confused at why Rep's feel the need to bash Obama...over using his middle name (no one types Sarah Heath or John Sidney) and Obama did not name himself?

I know that some democrats bash Palin and McCain for petty crap to and I also don't understand that.

THE QUESTION: What is the point of being immature and calling names? Aren't people old enough to just focus on the issues without downing th candidate with childish remarks?

Does the bashing make the party that they represent look more negative?

  • Palin tried to ban books and fire the librarian that told her that she could not....does this prove that she ?

will censor what she does not find appropriate?

See part of the article below

Shortly after taking office in 1996 as mayor of Wasilla, a city of about 7,000 people, Palin asked the city's head librarian about banning books. Later, the librarian was notified by Palin that she was being fired, although Palin backed off under pressure.

Palin alleged attempt at book-banning has been a matter of intense interest since Republican presidential nominee John McCain named her as his running mate last month.

Taylor Griffin, a spokesman for the McCain campaign, said Thursday that Palin asked the head librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, on three occasions how she would react to attempts at banning books. He said the questions, in the fall of 1996, were hypothetical and entirely appropriate. He said a patron had asked the library to remove a title the year before and the mayor wanted to understand how such disputes were handled.

Records on the city's Web site, however, do not show any books were challenged in Wasilla in the 10 years before Palin took office.

Palin notified Emmons she would be fired in January 1997 because the mayor didn't feel she had the librarian's "full support." Emmons was reinstated the next day after public outcry, according to newspaper reports at the time.

Still, one longtime library staffer recalls that the run-in made everyone fear for their jobs.

"Mayor Palin gave us some terrible moments and some rather gut-wrenching moments, particularly when Mary Ellen said she was going to have to leave," said Cathy Petrie, who managed the children's collection at the time.

Recent outrage has been fueled by Wasilla housewife Anne Kilkenny, whose 2,400-word critique of Palin's legacy as mayor is widely posted on the Internet. Kilkenny described Palin's actions as "out-and-out censorship."
