  • Window well material options?

I am going to be installing 3 egress windows in my basement. I don't want to use galvanized steel window wells because of the cost and they are ugly.

I don't have the time to pour concrete so I am thinking of building them out of treated wood. I live in a very dry climate so moisture will not be a big problem. We have a lot of fence posts from the 1950s that are still holding strong.

These wells will be 3' D X 4' L X 4' H. I am toying with the idea of using treated 2X6s. I am not sure if they will have enough strength to hold back the soil. My other thought is to use railroad ties, which I know can handle the weight of the soil.

Anybody have any experience with building window wells or retaining walls?

  • Acne like rash on face after being outside in the heat?

This past weekend I went wood cutting. It was in the low 90s and humid. When I got home I realized how much my face and neck was itching.

I decided to take a shower thinking all the sawdust was irritating my skin.

The next morning when I woke up my whole face and neck has what looks like razor burn or acne. I have never had acne before. When I was a teen I would get the occasional zit but not this.

It is getting a little better but it still itches. I but some cortizone on it lastnight and it has helped a little.

What is this rash and what all can I do to get rid of it or at least stop the itching?

  • Will flowers that got no water for 2 weeks come back to life if I start watering them?

I have been out of town for 2 weeks. I called my neighbor and she said that my sprinkler system failed the second day we were gone. If we start watering the flowers again will they come back to life or should we just toss them? She said it was dry and in the low 90s during the daytime.
