  • My dad's daughter from a previous marriage had a son. What is my relation to that son?

My dad's daughter from his first marriage had a son, that would be my dad's grandson, but what would that grandson be to me as my dad's daughter from his second marriage? Is he my step-nephew? And that son has a son, which would be my dad's great grandson, right? Okay, what would my relation be to that great grandson? Is he my step-grandnephew? Hackneyed family trees leave a person puzzled with what terms to use. And the "once-removed" thing is something I was never too clear about.

  • Now printing blank pages. Why?

My Epson Stylus CX3810 has suddenly decided to begin printing blank pages. It was working fine the other day. I think I messed it up when I attempted to print via the "wizard" instead of the graphics program I usually use. Help!

  • Can you help me bring the bass under control?

The bass coming from my computer speakers has always been seemingly out of control. I play a lot of music on my computer using Windows Media Player and Winamp. Regardless of program, all my computer audio is too bass-heavy, even when I zero out all the bass in program controls. I have a modest set of Altec Lansing speakers, with a 'sound field expander' toggle (on the side next to the volume dial), which seems to serve no purpose, toggled or untoggled. The sound quality is okay except for the building-shaking bass. I have to listen at a very low volume to keep the place from vibrating. I do have mostly-exposed hardwood flooring. Is it possible the acoustics built in to the speakers is designed for carpeted rooms? Are my speakers just too bass-y? Do I need a new soundcard? Suggestions appreciated.

  • Anyone tried the new Yahoo!Internet Explorer?

For a while now, I haven't been able to use Yahoo!Messenger to get into a chat room. I get an Internet Explorer script error message and Messenger crashes when I try. I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling Messenger, to no avail. Apparently Yahoo!Messenger runs off of Internet Explorer. Now, I'm wondering if installing Yahoo!Internet Explorer will fix the problem, as it is supposedly designed to work with Yahoo!Messenger. I've been using Messenger version 7, although the version doesn't seem to be of consequence. I've had the same IE error message with other versions too, and went back to version 7, as it has always worked best for me. I tried for weeks to fix the problem, using registry cleaners, defragging the hard drive, scanning for viruses, deleting cookies, and everything I could think of. Still the IE error message comes up when I try to enter chat, and Messenger crashes. Should installing Yahoo!Internet Explorer fix the problem?

  • Yahoo Messenger 7.0 crashes when I try to enter a chat room.?

For a while now, I have used Yahoo Messenger 7.0 without many problems. Now, when I try to enter a chat room, Yahoo crashes, and sometimes I'll get another error message, "Internet Explorer Script Error". I can instant message and join a conference room, but attempts to enter chat rooms crashes Messenger. Recently, I've been getting script error messages when I try to enter a chat room, but it didn't keep me from entering chat, and Messenger didn't crash. It only meant that I wouldn't see every post and sometimes other chatters wouldn't see mine. I've tried to fix the problem by uninstalling, then reinstalling Yahoo Messenger. That didn't fix the problem. After that, I tried uninstalling, then manually deleting all remaining Yahoo files, but some files could not be deleted. I went ahead and reinstalled Messenger, but still can't enter chat. I've tried adjusting my firewall settings in my Norton, but to no avail. I have DSL, Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6, and Firefox. Any clues?

  • I have Windows XP and I want to uninstall Internet Explorer 6 but it is not in the add/remove program list.?

I understand Internet Explorer is problematic and fraught with security issues, and just now I've been getting Internet Explorer script errors along with Messenger error messages upon attempting to enter a Yahoo chat room. I have Firefox installed; that being the browser I will use after I uninstall Internet Explorer 6, which does not display in the program list in my Add/Remove Programs window. I'm not sure if my inability to enter Yahoo chat rooms is tied to the Internet Explorer issue; however, I and getting error messages from both Yahoo Messenger and Internet Explorer when I try to enter chat. Yesterday, I installed a new version of Norton Internet Security - but I doubt that has anything to do with the problem at hand, as I have been able to get into chat since I installed Norton. However, today, after receiving a series of prompts to update Yahoo Messenger (to version 8.1), I removed yupdater (7.0 works fine for me, and no one seems to like the new version Messenger).
