  • Ram for Dell dimension 8100?

I bought dell dimension 8100, a crt monitor, a mouse, and keyboard for under 25 dollars at a goodwill. I am fixing it up and installing kubuntu on it as I write this. I am looking to add more ram to it but crucial does not sell it for my model. I have found ram for it but it costs about $100 just for 256mb. Is this type of ram still used in any other dell products so I can buy it cheep from crucial?

  • What os to put on an old computer?

I picked up an old dell and monitor for under 30 dollars at a goodwill (thrift shop) It works but does not have anything os wise installed. I have tried Ubuntu and it didn't work, I am waiting on Kubuntu but it keeps saying about something being corrupt and a red screen pops up. I want to know the best FREE OS to install on a machine with an intel pentium 1.5 ghz processor and 1/4 of a gig of ram. Oh and about 30 GB HD space. Please give instructions.

  • component video vs HDMI?

I currently have a comcast box that supports HDMI. It is hooked up to an amp (which handles video and the surround sound) which is then connected to a Plasma screen in the wall via a tunnel in said wall. The cable box is connected to the amp by using component video cables (3 for video and 2 for audio). I am thinking about hooking up HDMI. The Box does not support HDMI so I would have to string it through the wall. Before I do that, I want to know if it is worth It. The audio cables would still be hooked up to the amp but the HDMI cord would be going through the TV.

I don't want HDMI if there is no difference, because of the hassle and money for the cables

    Any advice?
