it was set in WWII, Africa (don't remember the country)

An old man, musician was sent to prison, and his grand son who only had his grandpa as family went everyday to see him in prison

They befriended with some inmates and taught them to sing (? not sure of that part)

but they sang in swahili

if i m not mixing up movies, the boy then grows up and starts boxing

I really loved that movie but can't remember anything else
