I run a tutoring agency. Are my tutors considered employees or independent contractor?
I am the sole proprietor of a tutoring agency. I get clients who needs a tutor for their children and I match them up with tutors of a specific speciality. The client pays me and then I pay the tutor for their hourly services. You can almost consider the tutoring agency as a staffing firm. The tutors make their own schedule and lesson plans with the client. They can choose whether they want to accept, decline or terminate a currently assignment. They are responsible for all their own expenses including traveling, stationary, etc. So my question is, are my tutors considered independent contractors and do I need to provide workers comp?
2 AnswersSmall Business8 years agoOperating a moving business what kind of license and worker insurance do I need?
Currently I operate a moving van as a side gig. Most of the time I just have friends or family member help me when I get a gig but I want to make it legit now. What do I need to do? I live in NJ and I plan to operate the business under sole proprietor. I was thinking of hiring some college kids or other laborers when I get a gig. Can these laborers be considered 1099 since they are free to work other jobs also? And what kind of license or insurance do I need? Will I need worker comp if my laborers get injured during a moving session?

1 AnswerPregnancy9 years ago3 years old, picky eater and daycare?
my 3 year old son just started daycare part-time. he goes every M,W,F.
the daycare has a lunch program in which my son would not eat anything on the menu. i want to take this opportunity to train my son to start eating different things.
so my question is how can i get my son to start getting the daycare's lunch?
first off, he goes to school at 8:30 am and they serve lunch around 11:30. when he eats breakfast at home, i know he can hold out till way after they serve lunch before he gets hungry again, which means he'll make himself skip lunch ( if it's not something he wants to eat). so should i not give him breakfast (maybe just a cup of milk) and send him to school?
secondly, i know getting a child to try something totally knew is hard so i thought about packing an alternative lunch. something he'll eat but a little bit different. for example, he'll eat plain pasta but not pasta with sauce. maybe i can pack him some pasta with a little bit of sauce and let him pick his lesser evil for lunch. what do you think?
5 AnswersToddler & Preschooler9 years agoWhat does it mean when AM or PM is crossed out on a birth certificate?
I'm trying to figure out whether I was born in the morning or night. On my birth certificate it says I was born on 1:37. Then there is an AM and PM selection. The PM has a horizontal slash across it as if crossed out and the AM is left untouched. Does that mean I was born AM or PM. Does anyone know how they like to record time in the hospital 30 years ago? i have asked many people this but none of them are positive about the answer. i'm looking for someone who knows for sure base on experience.
PS: I cannot ask my parents because they past away already.

3 AnswersOther - Health10 years agohow to claim back tax for NY local tax?
I use to live in NYC and paid both state and local taxes. Then I moved to NJ 6 years ago and started paying NJ state tax. But I never knew to switch the NY local tax so for 6 years I paid both NJ state tax and NY local tax. Is there anyway I can claim back the NY local tax I paid and how many years back I claim?
Thank you.

2 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow much food to give a 7-month old?
I'm a little worried that my nanny is forcing my 7-month old son to eat just to keep him occuppied. This is his feeding schedule:
6:00am - 6oz bottle
8:30am - 4t of cereal mixed with 4 oz milk
10:00am - 8oz bottle
11:30am - 4 oz jar of veggie
1:30pm - 7-8oz bottle
3:30pm - 4oz jar of fruit
5:00pm - 7-8oz bottle.
8:00pm - 6oz bottle.
12-am - (might or might not take a 4oz bottle mixed with 2 oz water.)
I'm ok with this schedule so far. He also gets some small snack to nibble on every now and then, but my nanny is taking about feeding him more than the schedule. Do you think this is wise?
2 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoFormula question on lactose-free milk?
When my baby was 3 weeks old I started feeding him Similac Organic ready-made milk. He seem ok with it, I didn't particularly noticed him to be gassy or anything but at 6 weeks old a friend suggest that I try Similac sensitive ready-made milk. He's been on the sensitive formula which is basically lactose-free for almost 5 weeks now. Again he seems perfectly fine. Recently, he's been waking up a lot (like every 2 hours) at night to feed so my friend recommended Similac sensitive R.S (which stands for rice starch) for the nighttime feeding to hold him off longer. The R.S. which is also still lactose-free worked really well and he sleeps for 4 hours at a time between feedings. I would like to keep him on the sensitive formula but I'm afraid if this would cause him to be lactose-intolerant when I switch him to regular milk. He's not really lactose-intolerant because he can drink similac organic with no problem. I want to keep him on the sensitive formula because I really like how the rice starch hold him over at night. What are your opinions? Will he become lactose-intolerant?
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoMy baby is 9 weeks old and I don't understand what's going on. Pls read for more details.?
My baby is 9 weeks old and he's starting to sleep longer during the night. When I lay him down at night maybe around 11pm, he would fall asleep by himself. Now I was told that if the baby is sleeping at night, don't wake him up to feed him. Just let them sleep. But the problem is after he falls asleep, he would sleep really peacefully till around 2-3am when he would start to get real jerky, like he would be kicking or jerking his head left and right like he can't get comfortable. He'll make a couple of jerking motion then not move for 3-5 min and then jerk and toss around again. He can do that for an hour before I just get up and give him a bottle. Keep in mind that he is still sleeping and he's not crying for a bottle. To me it just seems like he's hungry but too tire to wake up and eat so he can't sleep peacefully. Now after I give him a bottle, he does go right back to sleep (actually, it's more like he eats while she's sleeping). So after the bottle, he will sleep more peacefully for about an hour and then he would do the jerking and tossing motion again. I just don't understand it. It can't be because he's hungry again. What's going on? Why does he get jerky like he's not comfortable or something? Also he wakes up very cranky every day. What can I do to help him?
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoIs this normal after a C-section?
I had a C-section on May 1, and it has been about 5 weeks. But I still feel a lot of pain. I can't walk for more than 10 minutes or lay on my side for more than a few minutes. The skin close to the incision is very sensitive to the touch as if I have a sunburn there or something. When my clothes just lightly rubs it, it is so painful. Other than the pain I really feel fine. I don't have a fever or feel sick and the incision site is not red or swollen so I don't know if It's infected or not.
I do have a doctor's appointment this coming wednesday so of course I will let her know but I just want to see if this is common and what are some other people's experience with a C-section.
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoIs it ok for my 4 week old to sit upright if I hold him?
Just recently my 4 week old wants to be held upright or sit upright like he's sitting in a chair or something. Of course I have to help support him but I'm not sure if that is a good thing to let him sit upright so early. He's pretty big for a 4 week old 10.5 lbs and he has a lot of neck muscle like you can really see him jerking his head a lot. But do you think it is ok to let him sit upright so early? I mean is think going to be good for him neck and spine since they are still a bit weak?
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow to prepare powder Similac formula?
When I brought my baby home from the hospital we fed him ready-to-feed similac formula and he had a poopy diaper once or twice a day. Then I recently started making my own Similas formula from the powder and he started having 5-6 poopy diapers a day. I was afraid that maybe I was making the powder formula wrong which gave him an upset tummy almost after every feeding so I switched back and he started pooping less again. I want to know if I was preparing the formula correct or not. I usually put 10 scoops to powder to 2.5 cups of water (20 oz). But I use boiling hot water when I make the formula and right after I mix it I put it in the refrigerator. Am I preparing this correctly? Or should I just give him the ready made stuff?
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade ago3 week old baby, 10lbs 4oz, eats 4 oz every 2-3 hours.?
My baby is 3 week old today. He's 10lbs 4 oz (big boy) and he eats about 4 oz every 2.5 hr. Doctor said it's ok but I'm wondering if he is still eating enough. He doesn't spit-up after the 4 oz so maybe he needs more?
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCan't get baby to burp sometimes.?
I have a 1 week old and I know that you're suppose to burp them after every meal but sometimes he just won't burp even after trying for 10 min. Is it ok that he doesn't burp after some meals. So far I have not had any trouble with spit-up. FYI: I'm using playtex ventaire bottles. Do you think this makes a difference?
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade ago39+4 weeks. I'm tired of people calling to ask if the baby is here yet?
It really gets on my nerve when people are calling and asking if the baby is here yet. Don't you think I would call if the baby has arrived. I'm not trying to keep it a secret but he don't want to come out. Then I'm tire of them saying that the baby will come soon. That doesn't really soothe me anymore but annoys me. How the hell would you know when the baby will come. Can you tell the future? And then they say something like, "you can't keep the baby in there too long, it'll get too big." No duh, but what can I do.
As you can see, I'm getting really irritated. Thanks for listening.
