  • How sensitive are azaleas to being moved?

I bought an azalea that was significantly discounted due to the fact that it was half dead. I planted it last Wednesday and it seems to have bounced back a little. But then I got a hydrangea yesterday for Mother's Day and I have tried to figure out where to put it, but really, the only good spot in my small yard is where that azalea is.

So, am I going to kill the poor azalea if I move him again after only 5 days? Is there anything I can do to ease the transition?

  • Tried everything to potty train my son. What am I doing wrong?

My son starts preschool this fall and has to be potty trained. He is 2 now and turns 3 Sept 2nd. He just doesn't seem to be interested.

    Here's what I tried:

    Potty chart with stickers

RUnning around naked for a day

Potty training doll (where the doll "pees")

Potty training in 1 day (where we make it a "party" and go every 15 min with lots of toys & prizes)

I've tried to keep everything fun and positive. I've tried to give him space and back off when he's not interested. I'm trying not to pressure him too much. But at the same time, we kind of have a deadline. He's my oldest. I have one other, a 6 month old daughter. He doesn't seem to be jelous of her, and I've tried very hard to make sure he still gets a lot of attention.

What else can I try? What do I do when he just doesn't seem to care or be motivated?

  • Cradle Cap on Baby's Face or Baby Acne?

My 5 week old daughter has flaky cradle cap around her eyes and under her chin, but baby acne on other parts of her face. We went to the Dr yesterday and the Dr recommended treatment with Eucerin ointment and lotion. I was wondering if any other parents have dealt with this. How long did it last? Did you use Eucerin or another product? Did it help? How often did you apply the treatment?

Other concerns: I can't tell if it bothers her or not. I'm not sure if she's randomly moving her hands around her face or if she's moving her hands around her face because it itches.

Will the Eucerin make the acne flare up, even if it cures the cradle cap?

Any other advice from others mothers who have dealt with this is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Can I prune a rosebush now (late summer- early autumn)?

I just moved into a new house and it has a rose bush in the front yard. (Sorry, I don't know what kind it is). It's not very big, but it is growing into the pathway. I have no experience with roses but I'm willing to learn. Can I prune it back at this time of year? Any tips on pruning?

  • Looking for a Universal boy name?

I'm pregnant with #2 and its a boy. Hubby and I LOVE the name of our firstborn but we can't seem to come up with another we like as much or agree on. Our first son is Alejandro (we call him Alex) and one of the things we like so much about it is that Alex is a name that is found all over the world. I'm 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Mexican so I like that the name fits both ethnicities. I'm finding that this feature is hard to find and makes the name Alex very unique- but there must be another name out there that crosses ethnic and cultural boundaries. Ideas? Suggestions?

  • what website can you stream movies for free?

I got a movie from Netflix and the disk is scratched so the middle is messed up. I just want to see what happens because I know I'm missing something. I don't want to wait to send the disk back and get a new one, especially since its the weekend. I don't care about the quality since I'm only missing about 10-15 minutes of the movie. Isn;t there some website where you can stream movies for free withour having to sign up for an account?

  • Activities to do with a newborn?

I have a 2 month old and there are days where I'm just dying to get out of the house. I'd like to be able to go visit friends or just go do something fun with my baby. Does anyone have any ideas of places I can go? I'm a breastfeeding mother so I need a place where I can stop at any time to feed if I need to. I'm in the Washington DC area.

People have suggested museums, and I may try that, but I feel like the museums that my friends and I would be interested in aren't as kid freindly. If course, we could always go to the natural history museum, but thats not really geared to 2 adult women and its not like my baby would get anything out of it at this age. Any other ideas?

  • I'm 39 weeks...what am I forgetting?

So I'm due on Monday. I'm packing my bag for the birth center. I have the basics I think- toiletries for myself, music, bathrobe, slippers, clothes to bring the baby home in, diapers.

Is there anything that you wish you had brought with you to your birth that you maybe didn't think of or forgot?

Also, I have 2 outfits picked out for baby, but what do you recommend is easiest to bring baby home in? I was thinking no onesies because the cord will need to breath so I have a shirt and little shorts. Will that be an issue?

Are there any other things I need to think of?

  • extreme fatigue during late pregnancy?

I am 37 weeks pregnant and am extrememly tired all the time. I feel physically drained despite getting 8-9 hours of sleep and napping. I feel like all the energy has been sucked out of me and even doing small tasks is exhausting. Is this normal? Or am I maybe deficient in some nutrient like iron or protein?

Please don't tell me to go on bed rest or anything like that. I simply can't. I have to continue to work until I deliver in order to pay bills and anyway, even if I took off of work, I still have a sick mother-in-law that needs nursing care. I need realistic advice that I can actually take.

  • Do I need a Doula if I have a midwife?

I'm having my birth at a birth center where I will be attended by a team of midwives. In preparation for my labor, I'm also taking the Bradley Method (a.k.a Husband Coached Child Birth). When I first got pregnant, I budgeted an out-of-pocket expense for a doula, but that was assuming I'd be in a hospital. Now that I will be in a much more positive and supportive environment, with midwives and a husband who has taken the Bradley Class with me, do I still need a doula?

I do have a friend who is a doula-in-training and as part of her training, she has to witness a certain number of births. She will be there, and although she has had training, this will be her first birth.

  • I’m having a mental breakdown?

And I’m 27 weeks pregnant. I can’t get myself together and I need to for my baby, but I feel like my world is falling apart.

I’m due to have my first baby in August, I’m in the middle of renovating my house and we are way behind schedule. Why are we renovating right when a baby is due? Well, it’s because we tried desperately to sell the house but couldn’t so we had to do what we could to make it work for us. My mother-in-law is coming to live with us (also why we needed the renovation/addition) but not to help with the baby, but because she needs care. She gets here Aug 1, I’m due Aug 31. So instead of spending my maternity leave bonding with my child, I’ll be spending it trying to cope with caring for a child and learning to care for an elderly relative. That is, if we’re not forced to live in a hotel because the house isn’t finished. Then I have my lunatic step MIL threatening me because we are letting my MIL come live with us. She’s saying she won’t let my father-in-law come over to see us or the baby is my MIL is here. I have my and my husbands ex-best friend who we had a falling out with months ago suddenly sending us dramatic e-mails and wanting to create more drama. And I had to make a very tough decision that I have to re-home one of my dogs because I just don’t think I can handle care of 3 dogs, and invalid, and a baby. But now I feel like a horrible person because I did dog rescue for so long and my dogs are like my kids. But my 2 older dogs I trust and I know I can handle. The other dog, despite all the training we just did, is still out of control, and now I’m only going to have less time, not more to handle her. My husband keeps telling me to stay positive, but I don’t see how I can. Money is so tight and I still have to work full time just so we can make ends meet. I can’t take a day or 2 off because I need to save all my PTO for maternity leave, but I really think I’m losing it.

I'm already in therapy. What else can I do to pull myself together?

  • What kind of boundaries for MIL?

I need advice from people who have their parents or in-laws living with them:

Long story short, my MIL was diagnosed with Luekemia and her husband (my hubby's step-father) up and left her. Her circumstances are not great so she's coming to live with us a month before the baby is due (not just to help with baby, but pretty much forever).

Now, I don't want to make it seem like its a bad thing, per se. We get along very well, she can help with the new baby and provide some daycare. I'm happy to be in a position where I can open my home to her and help her and obviously she doesn't really have anywhere else to go. But lately I've started to have anxiety. Will I be able to raise my baby the way I want to? Will I ever be able to be alone with my baby? We have to live together, so I don't want to be confrontational, but everyone keeps telling me I need to "establish boundaries" upfront. How exactly do you do that and do it nicely? She's very sensitive.

  • Can you buy Bollywood soundtrack songs from itunes?

I got an itunes giftcard, but I can't seem to find any of the music I want. I'm looking mostly for soundtracks to my favorite Bollywood movies (like Asoka, Lagaan, Swades, K3G). I've tried different ways of searching, but can't seem to find anythign. Does itunes just not carry Bollywood soundtracks? Is there an easier way to search?

  • how much should I estimate a large armband tattoo will cost?

My husband got me the best mothers day present ever and so I want to get him something awesome that he'll love. (It's both of our first mothers/fathers day!) For a while he's wanted another tattoo, one where he can mark the occasion of our new baby. I know he wants something like a tribal armband with our sons name in the Cherokee syllabary. I'm thinking I need to save up around $400. Do you think this will be enough?

  • What kind of pillow did you use for support while sleeping?

I'm 23 weeks and for the past few weeks I've been using a varied configuration of throw pillows from around the house as belly support and between my knees when I sleep but throughout the night, as I toss or turn, the pillows come loose and I wake up sore. My neck hurts, my back hurts, my obliques hurt. I know there are pillows out there specifically made for pregnant women to sleep more comfortably. Did anyone find these helpful? Is there a shape or brand thats better than another?

  • Alejandro or Alexander?

We just found out Its a Boy!!!! We are naming the baby after my grandfather. My grandfather's name is technically Alejandro (he's from Mexico). Should I go with Alejandro, or use the American spelling, Alexander. Either way, we'll probably call the kid Alex.

Background: I'm Mexican on my dad's side, Irish-American on my mom's side. My husband is Cherokee.

  • When registering for a baby shower, did you register for any "online only" items?

A lot of the things I want (especially at target) are only available online. Do you think people will feel like it's more convenient to be able to order online rather than having to go pick it up, or with they feel inconvenienced by shipping? Did anyone else have this problem? Did you register for online only items? DId you receive them?

  • Are gaucho pants still in style?

I'm going to Hawaii in 2 weeks and I'm 5 months pregnant. None of my old summer clothes fit but I don't really want to go out and buy new summer clothes for a trip that's only 5 days that I've already spent enough money on. My old gaucho's accommodate my baby bump but are they still "in".

    They look like these:

  • Pregunta para otro Mexicanos?

I'm Mexican but my husband is American. We are supposed to go to D.F. in Junio to see my family. He has been hearing all the stuff in the news about the violence in Mexico and now he thinks its not safe and doesn't want to go. I think we'll be fine. All the violence is on the border, right? And, it's not like we are touristas. We'll be in D.F. staying with my tios. Would other native Mexicanos feel safe traveling home right now? It's just American's being paranoid, right?

p.s. My husband is also a little worried becuase when we go I'll be 5 months pregnant, but like I said, we'll be with family. My prima just had a baby so if anything goes wrong I can go see her Dr.
