6 AnswersZoology6 years agoHunting dog problems?
I got a dog with the intentions of wanting to hunt with her. She is a irish setter but, she will not retrieve game, or even a dummy. She points, she flushes but that pretty much all she does when hunting. She will pick things up and bring them to me but she won't do it when I throw it. She goes to smell it and comes back. I can't do most fetch training because they need to have tug and use a hard bite. Which would become a problem if I did that.
She very smart but she just won't retrieve!
Note: I never expected her to be trained right away, (she is year and a half now) but she never showed the drive when I wanted her to. And she is from a hunting line, not show.

1 AnswerOther - Television6 years agoIdeas for mental stimulation, Australian Shepherd Shepard?
No I do not have one, nor my close to getting one. I am thinking about it but, I would like to make sure that I am ready for such a breed.
I had already asked if how I exercise my dog now would work for a Australian Shepherd. Most of the answers were saying it's not all about the exercise, but the mental stimulation. Now obviously I am not discarding the exercise and I will still proceed to do lots of it with the dog.
I need ideas other than just to do a agilty and training for mental stimulation for this breed.
Thank you :)
5 AnswersDogs6 years agoShould I continue horse riding classes?
I have been doing the for a year and I have a newer teacher.
I opinion on her is that she is mean
Today when I went she would have a very gental tone and then yell like she was going to break my leg.
At the end of the class I was thing not to cry ( I am not a timid person and I can usually Handel yelling with a strate face) when I was cleaning the horses feet (I was next to the horse patting it's back) I forgot to talk to the horse and she yelled at me to talk to it two time. I untyied the rope to go put it up and she yelled again to talk to it, at this point I had tears coming out of my eyes. She just said I am done and yanked the rope from my hands and told me to go put my stuff up.
I understand she is telling me to talk to it becuase they get spooked easy.
But I was still patting it's back and purposely making noises with my feet
The horse never showed any sign of kicking biting or even being tense.
Latter on in the car I am pretty sure I had a small panic attack, it was difficult for me to talk and breath
Should I quit and go to a diffrent class or is this how most teachers are?

4 AnswersDogs6 years agoDo I work my dog to hard?
I have a irish setter, she is about 39 pounds, she could be a little larger. She is not over or Underweight. She is a little small for her breed but she is strong.
Every day (if she has no signs of pain or if she has no injuries) she pulls me to the mail box ( 1 mile away) and back (so 2 miles of pulling me on a scooter mostly running she get 30 second break ever minute, it take five minutes to get there)
I love going to the park or are near by river park every few days. so that's maybe 1 hour of walking and swimming. And lots of time I go out back ( lots of space no fence ) so she can just run around chace birds and play in the stream for about 1 hour.
I do put at least 1 hour a week for training time so she does come when called and knows lots of tricks.
She does not love to eat so I do often times put little bits of turkey hot dog, rice, and coconut oil, But not every day.
So over all she is 1 year old
around 40 pounds
Pulls me (140 pounds) on wheels
Gets around 1 and a half hours of heavy exercise
And 1 hour of light exercise
On a normal day
( weekends can be around 5 hours all together I really love to go to the park)
I would also like to add I am homeschooled so that is why I have so much time, and yes I under stand the dog is not leigally mine.
(I did not look this over so please forgive me if I made spelling/ grammar errors)
