  • Writing a novel, would love feedback?

    Hello,

I am writing a novel (target will be 100k words) based on the story of a girls struggle with the anger and resentment she has for her father. The prologue is the story about two young girls learning of the death of their mother. The following chapter is set twenty years after this first chapter and you see how the mother’s death has affected Samantha (the main character), Iris and especially the father. It is also a love story, as the main character falls in love and how she struggles with finding that love. And finally it deals with drug addiction and the way an addiction affects not only the addict, but the people around them.

I am about halfway through the book (about 55k words written) and would love to have someone (or many someone's) review the first two chapters, let me know if it grabs your attention.

As the file is long I will need to e-mail it to you, so if you please send me a request e-mail for the document or post your e-mail address here and i will gladly send it to you.

    Thanks,

    Liz

  • Writing a first novel, Advice???

    Hey all,

I have been toying with the idea of writing a novel for the past few years. I have finally decided to give it a go at it and shot out the first few pages. Here is my problem, I have had absolutely no writing experience past high school. I took a creative writing class in an online college but that pretty much SUCKED. I read a lot of novels so I try to pick up different styles in the books that I read, but its much harder to come up with ideas on how to create a character and bring a story to life. The topic of my novel is a bit complex... it deals with anger, drug addictions, dysfunctional families and a bit of non-vomit enducing romance...hehe

Can anyone give me any pointers? Any advice?

If anyone would like to read the first few pages and give me their input that would be fantastic too!! I have 5 pages so far so it wont fit in this screen. If you give me an e-mail address I can e-mail it and get your feedback.

    Thanks all!!

  • Discounted Hotels in Las Vegas?

I have heard around that Las Vegas Hotels always offer good discounts to tourists (because they want you to gamble in their casino's). How much truth is to this? And if so what is the best way that I can get a good discount on a three room reservation in the month of march '08?

  • Using the Bollinger Belt while in the Sauna?

    Hey guys,

I have recently been trying to lose my belly fat. I usually go to the gym and workout for about an hour and a half then go into the sauna for about a half hour. I know the Sauna only helps you lose water weight. But would it be harmful if I wore my Bollinger Solar Belt in the sauna? The Bollinger belt is claimed to help flatten your tummy by helping you sweat underneath while you workout, so does it have the same/enhanced effect if I wear it in the sauna? Any help is appreciated

  • Roommate Abandoned Property...Help?

About a year ago I signed a lease for a 2 bedroom apartment. My childhood/best freind asked if he can move in with me and I said ok. About 3 months ago his girlfreind, who he had practically living with us, began to disrespect both me and my home. I asked him to talk to her but he refused. So when I told him that she had to respect me or she couldnt come over anymore he blew up at me and moved out that same day. Since then both he and his girlfreind has blown up at me and attacked me, threatened to 'kick my A-S-S', attacked my family and used all personal information to piss me off to no avail. Hostile is an understatement to describe the way they both have been behaving. I dont want to argue so I told him that he couldnt come into the apartment to get his things, he had to send his family members, but now they are being hostile with me too. I had to change my locks because he refuses to return my keys. How can I legally get rid of his personal belongings that he left in my place?

  • Welfare recipients with better benifits than me!!!?

Ok maybe I am just venting, but I am 26 and I have a full time job. I was responsible enough to not have children at an early age, and move out and live on my own. I work at a job where benefits are not offered. I tried to get some type of government support to help get benefits but I make too much money, and I started school and I got barely anything in federal loans.

Now what kills me is the fact that there are people out there that have children and are lazy, yet they get government help. Here I am busting my butt going to work full time and getting a college degree, yet I cant afford to get my teeth fixed and have to come out of pocket for shcool loans 200 a month, all the while people who screwed up their lives have it scott free! Free dental, medical, food, housing. And they have the nerve to complain cuz they have to work to get the support. And dont get me started on tax returns, people who dont pay much taxes get back thousands jsut because they have children. UGH!!!

  • Vegas PD or South Florida PD?

HI I am currently living in New York City and I want to move out of NY. I would love to be a part of the NYPD but I really cant afford the salary. Plus I want to move out of NY within the next 2 years. I am currently in college so I am not worrying about the college requirements. I am currently considering Las Vegas Police Department or any of the departments in south Florida. Any input?
