  • why is the Slovenian word for off - izklopljeno - so long?

    I'm programming a device that handles 20 languages and only the Slovenian word for off is that long. Usually common words are short.

  • Email appliance?

    My mom has a Mailstation - a simple dialup device to send and receive text email messages.

    I'm going to install a cable modem with wireless solution in her house for my use when I visit. I want to get her a replacement for the Mailstation that can use the 802.11 router.

    Considerations:

    1. Simple to use. She's 81 and not computer literate

    2. Cost. The Mailstation costs $99 per year access fee. Spending $2000 to save $99 per year doesn't make sense.

    3. Keyboard. She is not going to like learning how to write on a Palm.

    4. Size. Somewhere between a PDA and a laptop.

    5. Did I say simple to use?
