Anyone ever have a dog break it's back and survive?
My lab Ginger was hit by a car a few days ago. I took her to a emergency vet who took x-rays and say she broke two bones on her right side off her vertabrae near the bottom, but she did not have to have surgery to fix it. I then took her to my regular vet who said it was considered a broken back but as far as he could tell there was no nerve damage. My vet said I could take her to a orthopedtic vet to see if they could fix it which would be veryy exspensive or I could just give her time to see how she heals. He said it was a very good sign that she felt pain because it means she doesn't have nerve damage. It's also gonna take a lot of caring for her till she is able to walk around on her own. She seems to be doing ok, but she seems very much in pain at times and stressed, I think due to not being able to go like she is use to. I have never heard of a dog with a broken back before and really need some info from folks who may have had this exsperience with a pet before.
