  • Ohio Non-Profit Organization 501 designation?

A group of us in our city have started a non profit organization. The organization was registered with the state of Ohio yesterday.

The question at hand is this: Can we use the 501 designation (without any letters or numbers after it) or can we only call the organization a "charity" or simply "we are a non profit corporation"?

I really wanted to be sure about this before we start using 501 on all our fliers if we can't say we are a 501 till we have filed with the IRS.

My thinking behind this is that when people donate to a non profit organization they get that deduction, but only from the federal government when they file their taxes.

Thank you for any answers you may have!

  • Friend has bench warrant, ethically, what would you do in this situation?

Hopefully, this explains the situation, if not I can update and add any other details. Husband and I have a friend, he is 19. He is "staying" with us cause he has no where to go. He has a job, but it is seasonal work and out of town, so he only works like 24 hours a week. We talked about him getting another job, closer and more permanent, but he lost his ID. Now he can't get the ID because he has a bench warrant for not paying $150 fine he got earlier this year. If we let him stay, after September he won't even have a job and all he wants to do with his money is buy weed.

Is there a way to anonymously tell the police where he works right now?

Will police even care or want to drive 20 minutes one way to pick him up if they don't have room in the jail?

    What would you do?

  • Credit Union - Cashing a large check question?

If someone has had a bank account with the same credit union for almost 20 years and they have a large check ($20K+) they want to cash, will the credit union cash it for them or will they put a hold on it? (The account has like $20 in it now.) I was just wondering if the bank would let that much money slide without putting a hold on it. (It is a 401K check, but is coming from out of state.) Thanks!

  • Who sends you a 401K check?

I was wondering who exactly sends you the check for a 401K account? Does the company you worked for send it or does the company that holds the 401K account send it? Or does it depend on the company?

  • Which College Bowl is the best?

If you had to pick between the following bowl games to see in person, which one would you want to see?

    Little Caesars Pizza Bowl

    Insight Bowl

    Texas Bowl

    Dallas Football Classic

    Gator Bowl

    Outback Bowl

    Capitol One Bowl

I'm thinking that all the games that are on January 1st are more popular with better teams. Just wanted to get some opinions.

  • What are some reasons to get kicked out of Section 8/Housing?

I know they have some rules like if unauthorized people live with you. they can kick you out, but what about from a criminal standpoint?

My neighbor has Trial next week for assaulting me (plus criminal trespassing and aggravated disorderly conduct.). If she is found guilty could she get kicked out of section 8? If she has to go to jail for more then 30 days would she just not be able to move back in? Does Section 8 care if she gets on probation? Or if she has to go do an inpatient treatment program?

Yes, I would be pretty happy if she had to move...I swear I read some where that the average person stays in an apartment for something like 18 months. Trust me when I say that she has overstayed her welcome.

  • No attorney for person who assaulted me at trial?

A woman assaulted me last year and she was arrested. She pleaded not guilty to assault, criminal trespassing and aggravated disorderly conduct. We were supposed to have a pre-trial in April, but she didn't show up. Has some excuse. So she wanted a continuance, but the judge set a trial date instead.

When the trial date comes can she say she doesn't have an attorney and she now wants one (pushing the trial date back I am sure) or is the judge allowed to tell her that after 7 months she should have already had an attorney or requested an attorney from the court? (She would qualify for one.) Ohio is the state.

  • If a criminal case goes to a grand jury can the prosecutor dismiss on their own?

If a criminal case gets bonded over to the grand jury can a county prosecutor decide on their own to dismiss the case or does it have to go in front of a grand jury? This is in Ohio.

  • What gives Census workers the right to ask neighbors questions?

Apparently my neighbor didn't turn in her census form. This morning there is pounding on my front door....and I mean POUNDING. My husband answers the door and is greeted by some woman who is asking him about our neighbor. How many people do we know live there? What are their names? I am not going to answer these question because she won't answer her door. How long will they continue to try to knock on her door and will another census worker be pounding on my door in the future?

  • What is counted as an expense for Food Stamps?

I know things like rent, electric and such are counted as an expense for getting food stamps and medical, but what else is counted?

Is a car loan counted? What if you got a personal loan? Would the payments be counted?

  • Car heat issue - What is wrong?

1999 Ford Windstar. Battery died yesterday. Got a jump. Now car makes weird ticking noise in the dash behind the radio area. Heater will only work if you turn it to all the way cold and then wait for the ticking sound and then turn it back to hot. Is the valve stuck? The belts are all fine. It can't be the heater core, cause it does heat fine after turning to cold to hot. Just wondering if anyone else had an idea.

  • What is the scam here?

A friend read some advertisement about getting training for two weeks to be a salesman in San Diego, CA. (We live in Ohio) He apparently called the number listed and they were going to pay for a bus ticket out to California and put him up in a hotel or something. They wanted him to leave last night (Two days after he called). He has a court case he has to go to and can't reschedule so he called the guy back and they wanted to know if he could leave the day after the court date.

I am thinking this is some kind of scam, but we don't know what it is.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • What happens with the IRS in this case?

Friend files tax return, when asked for 2008 year AGI, she put in 0 (zero) even though she made money, but didn't file. Will the IRS flag that?

Her husband didn't file his 1099 income on the taxes, she just put down that he made 0 (zero) she swears that the boss doesn't turn in the 1099 to the IRS. (It is a cab company, but I don't see how the boss can NOT be filing anything to the IRS on a company like that.) Can the cab company really not turn in 1099's on their employees? She said he doesn't turn in W-2 either. I am highly doubting it.

  • One more tax question?

Second question: Friend says that she is going to file this year with her income and that her husband has a 1099, but that they are not going to report any of the income cause she says he has three years to do so....Is that true or do they have to report all of their income when they file?

  • Simple Tax Questions?

If you file for a previous year return this year does the IRS flag it automatically even if you have a refund due from it? (A friend didn't file cause she made under the limit for income, but wants to file it this year cause she realizes she can get the child credit)

Will they flag the last year and not this year or are both considered a "single type" return?

Do all the places that do the "advanced loan" on a return have a credit check?

She wants her refund as soon as possible but since she doesn't have a bank account I am thinking she is in for some waiting, but I wanted to be sure.

How long would she have to wait for a check if she e-filed both years?

  • What the heck would you do? (Friend living with us, sort of)?

I have a friend. He is "staying" with hubby and I right now.

    The problem?

He and the next door neighbor have this relationship where they are always getting together and breaking up.

The next problem is that he keeps switching between staying with us and going back over there. She calls the cops on him in the middle of the night when she knows he can't get into our house cause we have already gone to bed. She is always wanting him to come over and make things "right". (Or get back with her.) He told her on the phone today that she was never going to change and then 3 hours later is over at her house eating dinner!

The other night he left and went over and didn't even lock the door and then the next day he says he was watching movies and fell asleep on the couch. (She doesn't have cable or anything.)

I also have assault charges against her and the trial is in April. She won't come over anymore, but she calls my phone all the time to talk to this guy.

What would you do? Tell him he needs to make a choice? Just kick him to the curb?

  • Women Issues!! How do you get a OB/GYN to listen to you?

    MAY BE GRAPHIC! TMI ALERT!!

I have been to various OB/GYN's over the years. My biggest problem has always been that every month I have very bad cramps when I have my period. So much that for the first 3 days I end up laying around and sleeping. (On top of that I have heavy bleeding and clots.)

One OB/GYN mentioned something about natural methods, which never worked.

I have twice tried the birth control pills that only let you have a period once every 3 months and both times I got violently sick, throwing up and instead of not having a period I would have some kind of green discharge.

I have tried Motrin, Tylenol, Aleve, Midol, Vicodin and Percesets(sp?) The only thing that ever helped my pain was some kind of pain med called Indomethacin. I am tired of trying to pop pills every month though.

I have tried heat pads, cold compresses, exercise, hot baths.

I am actually at a point where I am wanting to just get a hysterectomy (I had a tubal done years ago, so having children is not something I have to worry about.) I just can't continue to do this month after month. I once had a MRI and they said I had some fibroids, but at the time I guess not big enough to say it would be hurting me that much. That was about 10 years ago though.

What are my options? How do I convey to this new OB/GYN that I need something else done?
