I have been in animal rescue for over 14 years, mainly canine. I also work with critters and have raised a possum and a crow. I work with a no-kill shelter which takes all breeds and mixes for assessment as to being adoptable. We are the first on scene for many injured and abused animals and deal with a lot of medical issues. We also take cases to court for prosecution.

  • Has anyone had a bad reaction to use of Biospot flea/tick treatment?

I have a very sick dog at the vet and toxic reaction to the Biospot is suspected to have caused her to go into non stop seizures. She is hanging on barely but her temp had shot up to 106 in the 15-20 minutes it took to get a vet on a Sunday. This reaction is known to happen in cats but Biospot says not the cause in a dog. To be fair, the company is following up with her vet. As a rescue we cannot afford Frontline for all the dogs. This dog never had a problem being treated with Frontline in past. Just curious.

  • Did you know OSU Lab has discovered new Canine Parvovirus strain?

This news was released 2/7/08 from OK State U Center for Vet Health Sciences and has identified a CPV type 2c variant.

Now known to exist in the US and all countries except Australia. This variant has been documented in adult dogs. Bloodwork may be negative. Takes a autopsy (necropsy) to confirm as cause of death. Fully vetted pups are dying within hours. Current vaccines are not working.

Our rescue documented Parvo deaths that made no sense back after Katrina. Necropsies done proved Parvo death, all pups and dogs fully vetted or at least 2 sets shots. No real typical Parvo symptoms seen.

Not really a question as such. Just trying to get the word out. OSU has just restricted view of the article to the public??? I read it myself yesterday. What is up with that?
