I'm a high school senior right now, and got into a local cooking school last summer so that I could be a pastry chef, but even then I knew that as much as I like to cook, I love band, and given a choice between the two, I'd always choose band. I knew I couldn't make good money off of band, so I gave up on the idea and figured I'd settle for being in local bands in my spare time. But I had an idea recently that I really like. I'm a teaching assistant for my band teacher, and I do a lot of work with the freshmen at my school, and I realized that I'd actually probably really like being a band teacher. But, now I have a problem. Most schools have passed their application deadlines by now, so I'd have to wait another year and I'm not sure I'm willing to do that. And I'm still not sure if trying to become a band teacher in today's job market is a wise career choice. And even then, I'd have to tell my parents that I don't want to go to cooking school anymore, and I'm pretty sure that's not going to go over well. Are there any band teachers or pastry chefs/bakers that could tell me a little about their jobs, or just people in general that could help me debate the problem?
