  • NCAA 2009 Pre-Season Rankings?

So I was on the EA Sports website today looking at the NCAA 2009 game coming out in July, and I noticed they have a spreadsheet up of the game's top 25 teams and their player rankings (out of 100 points per category). My question is: How well do you think the top 25 teams from the game will mirror the actual pre-season top 25 in the next, nail biting season of NCAA football?

Here is the link to the spreadsheet:

  • Can an employer require me to work overtime in order to be hired (rephrased details)?

I think I asked this question incorrectly before, because the respondants seem to have the wrong idea. I have worked for a company as a temporary employee for over a year. I have proven that I am an all-star here (not to sound arrogant), and it is known here that I have no problem working overtime if necessary.

My question is: Is it legal to require an employee to work overtime for consideration for a position, when candidates for an open position would be evaluated based on their experience and qualifications?

Please note: They are not asking me if I would be willing to work overtime (which I would answer 'yes' to... I want the job and I would do it). They are telling me they will not hire me until I work more overtime to justify filling an empty position they need to hire for. I am asking if this, not telling me I "may" need to work overtime, is legal. The only reason I have not worked much overtime is because I have been looking for a fulltime position, which they knew.

  • Can my employer require me to work overtime in order to be hired?

Before you answer, please understand this. I realize under the FLSA that there is no limit to the number of hours an employer can make it's employees work in a given week, suffice to say that the employees are compensated appropriately for any overtime hours worked (time and a half).

However, I cannot seem to find any information on requiring overtime in order to hire an employee (i.e. I can't find anything about the two subjects together).

Currently, I am a temporary employee and someone is leaving my department, leaving an opening. I feel if I wasn't here, they would need to hire someone anyway, so why are they requiring this? Just to make me jump through hoops? It is a terrible idea to quit my day job to see if that would work, especially now.

What do you think would hold up in court? My reasoning or theirs? Thanks for the help!

  • Is Yahoo! (yhoo) a good buy right now?

Stock prices dipped quite a bit after Microsoft pulled from a pretty decent offer. Do you think Yahoo!'s stock price will continue to dip, or do you think the stock will begin to rebound? In other words, at this point in time, would you consider it a good buy? Or would you recommend waiting it out a bit?

  • Who will make the cover of NCAA Football 2009? Plus a bonus question!?

Darren McFadden has already made the cover of the XBOX 360 version... who will make the other 4 platforms? There will be 1 mascot and 3 players. Who would you choose? Remember, it cannot be an active NCAA player.

Additionally, I just used the bathroom at work at 11:20 and I have been here for 4 hours. The janitors come in at around 5:00 pm everyday and have not been here yet today (according to the sign off sheet posted in the bathroom). I washed my hands and threw away the paper towel... into an empty garbage can. Does that mean I was the first person to use the bathroom today... or just the first person to wash my hands? Ew...

  • Is this one of the funniest articles you have ever read?

I mean seriously... where do some politicians get off? This is the most rediculous attempt at anything I have ever heard about. Personally, I enjoyed the last line the most.

  • Where can I find two 1.5 ft. x 2.5 ft. sheets of glass?

I am looking for two sheets of glass (1.5 ft. x 2.5 ft.) that I can use to make doors for an entertainment center. I'm hoping to find something about 5mm thick. Does anyone know where I can purchase something like this? Also, is there a place I can have it cut, or will I most likely have to cut it myself if the dimensions I have mentioned aren't available? 10 points to the answer that is the most help. Thanks!

  • What does 1/2" 4x8 Birch Lumber mean?

I'm a newbie to anything hands-on related and I have never taken any type of a woodshop class. So please, save the flaming because I realize how basic a question this actually is.

My guess is that the wood is 1/2 an inch thick and 4 feet by 8 feet. Is this correct? Thanks!

  • Have you ever heard of this choking problem?

When my girlfriend eats food, occassionally, she ends up choking quite a bit. It isn't really "choking", per se, but she feels like something is stuck in her throat and she has to go to the bathroom and spit/occassionally throw up. I'm not really looking for a diagnosis... a doctor is probably the best bet for something like that. I am simply wondering if anyone has heard of this before.

    Thank you!

  • For those who believe in time travel...?

If it will ever be possible, can't you just pick a date, time and place that you will always remember (say 5:00 today at your front door) and make that the place you will go back in time to? Technically, you should run into your future self, correct?

  • Have you ever had a good idea for a movie?

Just thought this might be a good question to wake everyone up. Have you ever had a plot idea for a movie but never the desire to write one? Or have you ever though a movie would make a great remake if done right? What are some movies that you would like to see written or remade?

  • So Terrelle Pryor won't be making a decision today. Your thoughts?

Do you think he is really giving Penn State consideration, or do you think he is prolonging his pre-signing stardom? He has to be loving the media attention he is getting. I don't know though. What do you think he will end up doing? He has narrowed his choices down to: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon. Also, when do you think he will decide? He has until April 1st.

    1. Sodium metal reacts with water vapor in air to form solid sodium hydroxide and hydrogen.

    2. In the first step of refining zinc metal from its zinc sulfide ore, the ore is heated in the presence of oxygen. The products are solid zinc oxide and sulfur dioxide gas.

  • Is Belichick a big sissy after last night's early departure?

Just curious what everyone thinks. Before I get flamed for an anti-Patriot attitude, I was going for them to win. Personally, throughout the year I've supported most of the decisions he has made for the team, including running up the score occassionally. However, running of the field with :01 left? Come on man... at least stomach it like the other teams you have beaten this year have had to do. At least stick with your defense who has to stay on the field for one more play. At this point in time, I will officially call him the worst, least respectful, biggest sissy coach in college football.

Since I am not a Patriots fan (Dolphins fans... ugh...), I am curious as to how the Patriots fans view Belichick now. I can't believe someone would do that to a team that has performed for him all year in the national spotlight. What do you think?

  • Do you consider the Patriots stealing signals "cheating"?

Regardless of how good they are, how bad the Jets ended up being, or anything relating to this season in general, consider stealing signals in general.

If you ask me, it shouldn't even really be considered cheating. If you have the time to study signals from another team and want to video tape them to study them afterwards, all the power to you. There are more important things... like actually being able to beat a team. I could gather 11 of my friends and video tape and understand every single one of the Patriots signals, but will that help me beat them? I would assess my chances of beating the Patriots using this strategy at 1 in a billion (and that's carrying a firearm). Cheating only gets you so far. Raw talent and good coaching gets you to the finish line.

What do you think? This is just my personal opinion.

  • Do people understand the term "bandwagon"?

Here's a little food for thought:

Dictionary.com defines the term "bandwagon" as "a party, cause, movement, etc., that by its mass appeal or strength readily attracts many followers". I've seen it on here and all over the web... people calling those rooting for the Patriots "bandwagon" fans. That's all well and good, and usually I would really only be able to agree with this statement. I'll admit, I want to see them win only so I can see an undefeated season (as I was not alive in 1972).

So, anyone looking at this may call me a bandwagon fan simply because I want to see the Patriots pull it off. However, this year it seems that more people are rooting for the Patriots to lose. Not only are people rooting for them to lose, but it seems a lot of people would get some sort of divine satisfaction if the Patriots do lose. So here is my question: Wouldn't these people be more of a bandwagon group than Patriots "fans" this season? It does seem to be the "mass appeal" here...
