  • Wow that was bad!?

Credit for this question goes to cheryl and shawnee. cheryl just asked what wedding ideas have you seen that made you go wow I wish I had done that, shawnee responded she had only seen bad ideas. So, I ask what things have you witnessed at a wedding where you said wow... they should have never done that?

  • Who else thinks "its your day"....?

Who else thinks "its your day"....or "its my day" is getting said way too much, on this board, and in real life? I find its one thing to advise someone to splurge on a pretty cake or not fell obligated to ask their third cousin to be a maid, the its your day is fine, but there are people saying "its your day" do what you want in reference to overinviting at a venue...hello fire codes, or demanding muliple parties from cash strapped maids, or any number of situations where good taste, or good manners comes up? Is its your day being used too much as an answer and/or excuse?

  • Having your dress made?

Once again I notice someone tell someone to have their dress made, its something I have been thinking about, I hate all the strapless designs that are around now, I am top heavy and want to wear a bra with straps, and the halter is no go either the convertable bras are just strapless in desguise, I just dont like it, when I say I hate the strapless people say you can add sleeves, they are real sleeves, it just gauzy material, still cant wear the bra I want. Has anyone here had a dress made, or made one, how much did it cost. Im not looking to hear it depends on materials etc. How much did the one you have made cost, or how much did you charge? Looking for actual experience with actual numbers, location would help to if that makes a difference, Im sure NY prices are different than Fargo.

  • Toss away bouquet?

Am I the only one who doesn't like this new concept, I say new because this is something that was unheard of 20 years ago and now it seems to be the standard, the toss away. Traditionally the bride throws HER bouquet, but someone I'm guessing someone really selfish decided she wanted to keep it, so was born the idea of a few stems of flowers tossed instead. To me this is not the bride throwing her bouquet. I will throw MY bouquet next year, I think I will take one stem to press and keep. Is anyone else here going to really throw their bouquet?

  • Tuxorama Drama?

My wedding is coming up next year, while out to dinner my family my aunt said something to my grandfather about getting a tux, I asked is he supposed to. My aunt responded yes hes your grandfather. I asked about my brothers who will not be groomsmen, they are just as close a relationship. She responded of course. I said aside from the groom and groomsmen, the only man I thought who wears a tux is my father, thats it. I began to think her thinking was way off, my mother seemed to agree with my aunt. Well if my brothers and my gradfather who arent members of the wedding party arent wearing tuxes wghat about my fiances, family he has a stepfather that raised him and a father he is close to. The reponse was of course they should too. No way I thought, I cant recall being to a wedding where the grooms dad wore a tux, nice suit yea but tux no. This is not an ultra formal affair, it will be a nice wedding, but the there will be no top hats, no tails, no white gloves. What is appropriate?

  • Feelings on Fountains?

Im not a germaphobe, but does anyone else here find chocolate fountains, champangne fountains and the like gross.

I guess my opinion got formed a few years back, I was at a very upscale club on New Years Eve, that had Champagne fountains on all the bars. I had had a few glasses around 10PM another at 12, at 1 I went to get a glass and no lie it was GRAY, and MURKY, I went to another one, which wasnt as intense but it was pretty much the same, I dont think they were tampered with, I think that was something that was just happened over the course of the evening.

Ive been skived ever since, Youd be surprised by the things that dont bug me, I will eat old leftover take out food, I will eat things of of sticks camping, but a recirculating fountian of whatever ...ICK

  • Any have Ipod instead of DJ?

Im very nearly positive Im going to do the Ipod thing, in reality laptop, Ive heard its easier for cueing things. Aside from the cost, I have never been a fan of wedding DJ's even the classest one Ive seen still seems a little like a used car salesman. My fiance are tech savvy enough, for making the playlists, burning back up cds, we undestand we will need cocktail hour, dinner hour playlists, We have at least three different friends who we trust who have enough stage presence to make announcements as necessary. What I we are not certain of is the audio system, our hall has no internal PA system, as side from the playback device, what did you need in terms of speakers, mikes, any sorts of faders to switch between, mic and music, wires, did you rent, if so how much, did you own or borrow, if borrow, form who, I have friends of friends in bands no Djs, might they have some of these things?

Bottom line it....what do I need and how much will it be?

  • Am I the only one here...?

Who finds some of the brides and grooms on this board dont care about their wedding guests. Oh they care about their wedding, but it seems they want to skimp on the simplest courtesies to their guests, under the guise of its my wedding, its my day, this is costing me alot, im inviting 400 people so i cant possibly afford anything other than a cash bar, I cant afford stamps for response cards and no guest for single friends, its my day, no 18 year olds, because I dont want kids running around. The feeling some of these posters have about thier wedding guest almost boarders on contempt. Before anyone asks My wedding date is set for june 09, 100 guests, which I used to think was an average wedding, but here its small. My question is am I the only one who sees this?

  • Color Scheme Help?

I'm sorry for this repeat question... but most responses, all very lovely thank you, were given before I had posted pics and I dont think my description really expressed what my dilema was.

What color scheme would work for a late afternoon in June wedding in this arboretum (ignore current chairs swag and arrangements)

    http://www.kremp.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/Wedding....

    And this ballroom evening reception

    http://www.kremp.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/Wedding....

Believe it or not this is the same location.

What palette will look best for the maids and bouquets in the lush green natual setting and fit with what color linens and centerpiece flowers in such a formal room.

Any one who answered this question without seeing the pics. I welcome new input. Thanks

  • Color Suggestions?

My first Yahoo answers question. I have no idea what my wedding colors should be. I don't have any sort of vision when it comes to what my color scheme will be and I have to say I dont have a very good eye for what coordinates.

The wedding will be outdoors late afternoon in June in an arboretum, lots of green trees and grass, pastel spring wildfowers, wisteria especially, light grey , and moss covered stone columns and structues. The ballroom at this location is all white walls ceiling white crown moldings, hardwood floor and deep burgandy drapes. When the reception is in full swing it will be evening.

I m not trying to match the ball room, but the drapes cant be changed, I like blue but began to visualize the white room, deep red drapes, and blue bridesmaids and table cloths and a flag jumped to mind. I am afraid deep colors will look out of place in the spring mix of the arboretum. Can anyone think of a color palette that will look just as nice in these two extremes.

    Thanks.
