1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoWhat is my martini cadet rifle worth?
I have a Birmingham small arms martini cadet rifle. It was used as a training rifle by the australian army. its a number 4 austrailian pattern, originally chambered for .310 greener, otherwise known as .310 cadet. It was rechambered at some point to 32-20 winchester. original stock, original finish, most of the finish is still there.serial number 157XX. Id like to know more about it, namely, how old it is. can anyone tell me how old it is and what it might be worth?
3 AnswersHunting9 years agowhy doesnt my shotgun have a serial number?
I have a Mossberg model 190 in 16 gauge. Its a bolt action with a 2-round box magazine. I figure its from about the 1960's. I have completely dissassembled the gun and checked every inch of it , but no serial number, and no spot where it looks like it was ground off. I have seen other guns without serial numbers, so i figure thats just the way it is. anybody know why?

2 AnswersHunting9 years agowhat does being "naturalized" mean in reference to my ancestor?
Ive recently been doing some research into my family history, and someone else in my family did research previously. they managed to trace the family line back to 1615! that ancestor was Lt. col. John Jarboe, who was born in france, came to this bountry before 1657, and then in the notes it says he was "naturalized", i forget when. what does this mean?
Also, if anyone could dig up any more info on him that'd be awesome.
I know he lived in maryland, and apparently he held the office of sheriff or something (dont have my notes with me). im particularly interested in any military service, including the circumstances regarding him being an officer. i have no idea who he served FOR. france? America? british loyalist? any info is graetly appreciated.

4 AnswersHunting9 years agohow do i find out more about ny ancestors military service?
I want to find out what units they were in, where they were deployed, awards recieved, etc. Mainly this is for two of my ancestors, my great- grandfather and my great uncle. I know they both served in ww2, both army. My great grandfather was an officer in the army corps of engineers, When he retired in the 50's he was a leiutenant colonel and they made him a full colonel. I also know that he was one of the guys in charge of building the dwight d eisenhower lock of the st.lawrence seaway. I know in the war he was on okinawa, but I dont know what he did there. His name was Stanley Hunt.
My great uncle i know very little about. His name was Joseph Mangum. I dont know his rank, but i do know he was in the army rangers. he served in the ETO (european theater of operations). I also Know he was captured by the germans. my family recieved notice of his capture on june 24, 1944, which really makes me curious because I know it would have taken a little while for them to recieve notice so he might have had something to do with the D-Day landings. I know he survived the war, but died in a car accident in the 1950's. How do I find out how he was captured, his unit, where he was held, when he was released, and any other pertinent information?
4 AnswersGenealogy9 years agodid all 1967 plymouth barracudas have front disc brakes, or just the formula s models?
i read somewhere on the internet that only the 67 formula s barracudas had the front disc brakes. I had always thought that they all had the front discs for that year. Mine has forward discs, with 4 piston calipers, and i'm pretty sure it isn't a formula S.
But on the other hand, I have another 67 that also has front discs, but its only got single piston calipers, and again, Im pretty sure its not a formula S (was originally an inline six cylinder) Is this website wrong, or is it possible someone took the front end hardware off of a later year (they're pretty much identical) and put them on mine? sources would be appreciated.
1 AnswerChrysler1 decade agoIs all lake city ammo (marked L C) match grade ammo?
I recently picked up a bunch of lake city 30.06 ammo that i was told is match grade, but I want to make sure. its marked L C 67 on the casing. Is this match grade, 176 grain boat-tailed sierras, or something different? if so, what bullet type, and weight do you think it is? I'm pretty sure the grain is somewhere around 180.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoCould a ww2 Japanese Arisaka rifle handle the pressures developed by a 30.06 springfield round?
I have a Japanese type 99 bolt action Arisaka rifle that was originally chambered for 7.7 caliber, but was re-chambered for 30.06 Springfield sometime in the 80's (I don't know who did the work). I don't know how much it was used after that, if at all. Could a type 99 action handle the pressures generated by the 30.06 round? Also, I recently tried chambering a military surplus 30.06 round in the gun, and the bolt wouldn't fully close. I think the round was too long, but some other '06 rounds i have that are Remington core-lokts chamber just fine. Could this mean that the work done to the gun was sloppy or incorrect?
9 AnswersHunting1 decade agoquestion about martini cadet rifle values?
I have a martini cadet rifle by BSA (birmingham small arms) It is an Australian pattern number 4. It is a lever operated single shot breech loader. It has the original stock and finish, 90-95%of the finish remaining. It might have been rechambered for 32-20 wcf at some point, but Im not sure because the 32-20 and the 310 cadet/greener (the original chambering) are nearly identical rounds. I believe its possible that whoever bought the gun saw that a 32-20 fit and fired, and then had it labeled 32-20, even though it may have really been (and still may be) a 310 cadet/ 310 greener (greener and cadet are two names for the same cartridge). I have never fired it, and i believe itis quite old. the serial number only has four digits. its marked commonwealth of australia. How much would this gun be worth?
and I know this isnt a question about hunting, but cmon, who else on this website is gonna know ANYTHING about guns? and I have seen several martini cadet rifles converted into sporting rifles.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agohow good of a shot am i?
A few weeks ago i took a couple of my rifles to a range. I set up a watermelon at about 100 yards away, and i took some shots at it. I used a long branch Enfield number 4 mark 1*, using surplus 303 british military ammo, and I hit it 3 times out of five shots, open sights no scope, but i think i can do better because i didnt guess the range correctly and had my sights set for 200 meters (duh!). I then used my m1903a3 springfield 30-06 at the same range and with the sights incorrectly set for 200 yards, with military ball ammo, and hit it 6 times out of nine shots. shooting position with the enfield was sitting at a shooters table, standing, kneeling, and prone with the springfield. neither rifles had a scope, and the shots were in pretty quick succession. weather was good with a very slight cross breeze. on a scale of 1 to 10, how good was my performance with these rifles?
13 AnswersHunting1 decade agopersonal opinions on the Hornady lever evolution rounds?
I've heard people say they were great, and i've heard people say they suck. what is your opinion on the leverevolution rounds in 30-30 for whitetail deer? how's the expansion? power? how about trajectory for a 160 grain? how do they compare to something like a 150 grain remington core-lokt?
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoquestion about hard to find ammunition?

2 AnswersFord1 decade ago1967 plymouth barracuda brakes question?
I have 2 1967 barracudas that i am currently restoring. one is a "notchback", and the other is a fastback. neither cars have engines or transmissions. Recently i pulled the front wheels off of the front of the notch back, and i noticed that the disc brake calipers are on the forward-side of the rotor, but on the fastback, the calipers for the front discs are on the rearward side. Im not sure if it makes a difference, but the notch back was originally a six-cylinder, and the fastback was originally a small block v8. I know the front discs are stock, because '67 was the first year that plymouth did it. also, the guys I bought the notch back from were going to turn it into a drag racer (the trunk is shot), so they might have had something to do with it. Why are the calipers on different sides ?
