  • Can my school do this?

So my school principle just came onto the PA system, and said that starting Monday, we're not allowed to have our phones out unless our teacher says it's for educational purposes.

(Why are they saying this in the last trimester of school, I don't know)

The thing is, I don't have a phone. I have a PS Vita, which I only us for music (since I can't connect to the school Wi-Fi, and I'm bored with the games I have on it.)

Can the school take it away and make my parents come get it, when they said no phones?

They did NOT say "no electronic devices" they said "no phones."

I'm assuming they can't, since they specifically said phones.

This is actually kinda reminding me of all those "dumb" court cases where people sue companies for not labeling/saying that something could happen, even though it should have been common sense.

  • Do drawing tablets work on Chromebooks yet? / Will they ever?

    Hello!

I'd like to know of drawing tablets work on Chromebooks yet.

I've tried searching it on Google, but only find other questions about it, and a half-answer for some Wacom tablets. (I'm using a Turcom tablet.. A re-brand of Huion.. It works with the Huion H580 driver)

If there's any way to make them work without needing to format the Chromebook (or dual-boot Ubuntu), that'd be awesome!

If there is no way currently, does anyone know when? Or at least have an idea when?

Thanks for any answers that come in. Hopefully they've finally added support, or will soon.

  • Can I choose my clock speed when OCing?

    Hello!

When over clocking a processor (an Intel one), can I choose how high the OC goes?

Or does it automatically go to the highest possible clock?

Also, is it possible to under clock (if that's a word) a processor?

IDK why I'd need to do this, but I'd like to know just for curiosity's sake.

    Thanks for your answers!

  • List of PC cases that have an external HDD dock?

    Hello!

So I'm gonna be building a PC, and would like a computer with an external HDD dock, like the Rosewill Stealth or the RAIDMAX Scorpio V.

Are there any other cases with this?

It'd be really useful for some of what I'm going to be doing.

I would just like some more options before I decide on my final parts.

  • How to play selected sound AND microphone through Skype?

    Hello!

So I want to be in a Skype call, and share the sound of a game I'm gonna screen-share so my friends can see my reaction while being able to hear the game.

(The game is Amnesia : Into The Darkness)

Is this possible without any programs?

If not, what do I need?

I would prefer to not just play it through my speakers while Skype goes through my headphones because I don't want to creep out my family with the game's sounds.

  • What are the pros and cons of compiling source code.?

Hello! I am curious, why would someone want to compile source code themselves, instead of just downloading the already compiled program?

A few of the programs I normally use have an option to download the source code and compile it yourself. Why would you want to do that?

  • Looking for a laptop for school/work?

    Hello YA ppls!

So, I'm looking for a laptop for school, and light gaming/work. (work as in 3d modeling with Blender)

My price range is 170-300 dollars.

    --Here's what I would like--

    NOT a chromebook..

OS, Windows 7 64-bit, which ever version.

Disc Drive, I don't mind really.

Build, I don't care how it looks, so long as it's sturdy, and has a pretty neutral color.

RAM, At least 2GB, preferably 4GB, at most 8GB (cause of price)

Storage, I'd prefer a SSD (at least 32GB) But HDD is fine (at least 250GB, RPM doesn't matter)

Processor, I'd like an Intel (AMD is fine if needed) at least 2Ghz for dual-core, at least 1.5Ghz for quad-core.

    Definitely something good for multi-tasking.

Ports, at least 2 USB (no need for 3.0), HDMI (VGA would be completely fine though), LAN, 2 audio jacks (1 Mic, 1 [if possible, 2] Headphones)

Keyboard/Mouse, I would prefer a full sized keyboard (the kind with the number pad), and physical left n' right click buttons. (For the keyboard, having the kind where the numbers are on the letters is fine.

Battery, I would like for it to last at least 5 hours with 'normal' usage.

Sensors/Other, a webcam would be nice, but isn't needed, Bluetooth isn't needed either, but if it has it, why not. And Wi-Fi of course! Doesn't need to be fast enough for gaming, just enough so I don't have to wait forever when DL/ULing something.

    ----------------------

Thanks in advanced for the suggestions ^-^

  • [iPhone 4, Power] Does my iPhone need a battery to work correctly?

Hey. So I was working on my iPhone, trying to fix something, and I accidentally ripped the battery's ribbon cable.

My iPhone still works, but what I guess would be power consuming things, don't.

For example, all of these cause the iPhone to shutdown and reboot.

GBA4ios (Gameboy emulator), Wi-Fi, and music on loud volume.

Things that do work fine though are..

Music on low volume, Piano Tiles (that finger speed test game), and other small apps.

I've already found a few places to get a new battery, I'd just like to know if the battery is the reason why it's acting up, or if I messed something else up.

    Thanks!

  • [YouTube] How to word a disclaimer for a remixed song?

Hey, so my friend KC made a remix of a song

"More Than a Chicken" by General Mumble (Youtube account - Mumble Etc.)

I made a visualizer for him so the video could look a bit more professional.

I'd like to help him with the video description and would like to know how we should word the disclaimer.

    If it's needed that is.

On the original song, the description has downloads for the regular song, and the instrumental.

Which is usually a sign that the creator is fine with people making remixes. (Either that, or they'd think people would like a version without lyrics. He didn't say)

Here's the original song by the way.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNTQxrEk4iY

I've read that it's better to not say "disclaimer : blah blah blah" because then you'd acknowledge that your work may have copyrighted material. But since from what we can tell, the creator is fine with this.

Especially since there are already many other remixes of the song.

For example, a remix by TheLivingTombstone that has almost double the views of the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4gfgR_JtYU

  • [Ubuntu / Luinux / HardDrive] Does these errors mean that my HDD is failing?

    Hello.

I'd like to know if these errors I get when using the command "dmesg" in the terminal for Ubuntu 15.04 (64-bit)

mean that my hard drive is failing.

Here is where, and what, most of the errors are / say -- http://pastebin.com/FM5i2ta2

Here is the full result of the command if needed -- http://pastebin.com/8awYCKeD

Both of these will be up for one (1) month of the date the question was posted

If it is failing, I understand. This IS a pretty old computer, I'd just like to know before I lose my chance to backup stuff =)

Thanks for reading! And of course, I'll choose a best answer.

  • Would a HDD work on USB2.0 when using a USB 3.0 connection?

    Hello!

I am going to get a SATA to USB adapter for my laptop's HDD

(laptop is pretty messed up, but I want to save some files)

I found one on Amazon that has good reviews n' stuff, but

it's a USB 3.0 connection. Would it still work on USB 2.0?

I know it's gonna be slower, but I don't know if it can be powered

by it. I do have 3.0 ports on my main PC, but my "new" laptop

    doesn't have any 3.0 ports.

    Thanks for your replies!

I'll check back in an hour or two of posting to choose a best answer

(if any answers by that time)

  • [Ubuntu] How would I change my ip/mac address?

    Hello.

I'm trying to use my laptop in school, and when I try to get online, it says I'm not allowed because I used a peer-to-peer program.

I used UTorrent to download Ubuntu while in school.

(Blender wont start in Windows. Works fine on Ubuntu)

So.. Is it possible to change my laptop's info to make my school's network think that my laptop is a new device? I'm thinking that it would be possible to do by changing the IP and MAC addresses of my laptop. But how do I do that?

I'm using Ubuntu BTW. For some reason, Windows won't load up. (Just gonna have to re-install it)

  • [iPhone4] Can my iPhone4 run on power from the charger alone?

    Hello!

My iPhone battery had died a bit ago so I took it out and ordered a new one.

While I waited, I tried using it just plugged in.

It works, but if I were to start any apps, the iPhone would just shut off after a minute or two.

It stays on as long as I want if I were to just leave it on the home/lock screen.

I'm guessing that the charger does not provide enough power to actually use the phone.

Is this true? OR is there something wrong?

Thank you for your responses! ^-^

  • [Ubuntu/Windows] Would it be safe to do this?

    Hello!

On my laptop, I have partitioned about half of my HDD space to Windwos7, and half to Ubuntu14.10.

I have run out of space on my Windows partition and no longer need Ubnuntu.

What I would like to know is, Would I be able to delete all of Ubuntu's space, and set it to be more memory for Windows to use, without deleting any of my content on Windows? How?

Or would I have to 're-install' or 'upgrade' windows and tell it to take up all of the space?

(I have an installation disc and know how to use it)

Thank you for the help! ^-^

  • [Samsung] Why won't my blueray player connect to the internet?

    Hello!

    So here's the details.

    Model:

    Samsung

    Model code: HT-E6500W/Za

    Model number: HT-E6500W

It's been connected to our router almost since we got it.

All of a sudden, it wouldn't connect to the internet.

It CAN connect to the router, but not to the internet

We have not changed the password on the router for a few months,

so I know it's not that. (It was working yesterday)

    Any Ideas?

If there is no help, I guess I could try connecting it through ethernet.

    Thank you!

  • Recommend anime based on a list of anime I've seen (and some extra info)?

So here is a list of anime I've seen.

    (what I can remember)

I will put two dashes in front of the ones I really liked.

    I like anime with action.

I also like them when they make me think.

Like Future Diary, or Death Note.

I do prefer subbed, but if some male characters

sound younger, or like girls,(like Yuki from Future Diary [SUB])

    I'd probably prefer dubbed

    --Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood

    --Highschool of The Dead

    --Future Diary (+ OVA)

    --Black Butler

    --K

    --Durarara

    --Gurren Lagann

    --Angel Beats

    --Death Note

    --Soul Eater

    School Days (+ OVA)

    Wolf’s Rain

    Sword Art Online

    11 Eyes

    Amnesia

    Code Geass

    D.C. Da Capo (season 1, 2, part of 3)

    Nisekoi

    Skip Beat (half of it)

    Inuyasha (till episode 50)

    Attach on Titan

    Infinite Stratos

    Highschool DxD

    Thanks for the help!

If I get multiple suggestions on one anime, I will check it out ASAP.

The person who sent it first would get chosen by me as 'best answer'
