  • Why do boys who have problems want to date me?

I've not had many different guys who have asked me out on dates in my 16-year life but a few stick out. The first guy who asked me on a date skips school and does a lot of drugs (marijuana for sure, not sure if he's been using anything else) and drinks alcohol. The second guy had a lot of emotional problems from his family and past girlfriends who cheated on him and while he didn't do drugs, he self-harmed (eg cutting). The third guy was someone I met at a party who was telling me about how his parents were going to kick him out because he used a lot of drugs including cocaine and Valium. I don't lead the kind of lifestyle that these guys lead. There was one fourth, "normal" guy who I dated for a few weeks but he only asked me out because I told him I liked him, so he was probably just trying to take advantage of that if you know what I mean. I'm sorry this was long but my question is, why is it that the only boys who express their desire to date me are ones with problems? Do they want me to fix them and make them better people?

  • Would you consider this to be dating?

Let's say you and someone else have been hanging out alone together as friends. At the time, you didn't consider yourself to have been dating the person. Then both of you admit you want to date each other because you like each other as more than friends. That person tells you that she had actually considered the time you two had spent together as actual dates. Would that convince you that you had actually been dating? Or do you think that for two people to be dating, both parties have to be fully aware and consenting at the time?

  • What should I do about this job?

Sorry this is long but here's the whole story:

On April 10 the manager at Lick's (it's a Canadian fast food joint) emailed me asking me to come in for a job interview on the 12. So I went for the interview and he hired me on the spot. He told me he'd email/call me with a schedule that week. So I waited to hear from him with a schedule.

That Saturday he emailed me saying please come that Tuesday the 17th at 3:30 with ID. I thought this was going to be my first day of work but I was confused because I had told him that I was available on weekdays from 5pm. School finishes at 3 and that Tuesday, bus did not come to my school until 3:30, so I was quite frazzled that I was going to be late for my first day of work. I got to Lick's just before 4, so I rushed in apologizing. It was not actually my first day of work. A girl from the YMCA was there with papers for me to sign because YMCA subsidizes Licks for every 15-30 year old they hire from April to Sept. So I signed the papers even though I hadn't actually started working there. The manager then told me he'd call me that weekend with a schedule (deja vu).

I waited an entire week and didn't hear from him so on the 25th I emailed him saying that I was wondering when I'm supposed to come in for work since he never contacted me with a schedule like he said he would. So a few days later he called and said that he can't schedule me in for work because business is slow, and that he'd have a schedule for me next week.

I haven't heard from him since then (it's been 3 weeks) but shortly after he called me, my aunt asked if I wanted to spend the summer living at her house to babysit her children while she was at work during the day. I did this last summer and got paid about $125 a week. I told her that since I didn't know what was happening with my new job at Lick's, I would call her when I knew what was going on with that.

Long story short I was hired a whole month ago and I have worked for a total of zero milliseconds there. So should I contact him and give him one more chance to give me a work schedule, or should I just tell him that a better offer has come up that I'll be taking? Also, is it possible that he "hired" me, with no intention of actually giving me a job, just to get money from YMCA just in time for tax season, and what can I do about it legally as a 16 year old in Ontario?

  • Is this a good plan for asking my crush if he likes me?

I've decided that the next time I have english class with my friend who I like-like on the last period of the day, I'm going to drop a note on his desk at the end of class then walk out of the room. The note is going to say:

    Do you like me?

    ( ) damn straight

    ( ) hell yeah

  • Should I be concerned about aging skin yet?

I'm not quite 16 years old, I don't take the best care of my skin, I'm acne-prone, and I was wondering what the earliest age is that I should start to do anti-aging stuff? Is it too early to be concerned about that? I want to have beautiful skin when I'm older and I know that prevention is the best cure. Thanks!

  • I wanted a stranger's honest opinion of my singing?

So my friends say I have a good singing voice... I've never had lessons and I don't think I know proper techniques that vocal teachers would teach. So anyways what do you think? Please be honest but only constructive criticism. If you are going to tell me I suck, at least give a legitimate reason and tips on how to improve. Thank you!

  • How to convince my mother to let me go to a house party?

My friend is having a house party tomorrow (Saturday) night. Her parents are not home and there will be alcohol and possibly drugs. However I do not do drugs or alcohol so I would not partake in that. We are both going on 16 so I know many answerers will say things like "you're too young" but I'm willing to bet many of yourselves have been to many parties at my age. My friend's house is just on the next street from mine so I wouldn't have problems walking home (very safe, quiet neighbourhood) and she also said I could sleep over which I probably won't do because my parents make me go to church Sunday mornings.

The thing about my mother is she will probably want to call my friend's parents and confirm that they know about the party and that they will be home which is obviously not going to happen. I mean this is high school. We party with our friends, our friends drink, the house gets trashed, the hostess cleans up. So how can I convince her to let me go? And sneaking out is not an option and I'd rather do as little lying as possible.

  • Should I get a pet bird?

I am 15 years old and I was thinking of asking for a pet bird for Christmas, either a song bird or a talking bird. I've never had a pet besides dog-sitting my uncle's dog and various fish throughout the years, but I am very responsible and I am at home for most of the day besides school. I would never forget to feed my bird and I would keep its cage clean. I would take full responsibility for my pet, but I've never had a bird before so I was wondering if it would be a good idea.

Also what species would you recommend? Nothing too expensive and preferably one that doesn't make a lot of loud squaking noise.

  • How do you like these lyrics I wrote? please dont steal! how can i improve them?

Yeah so I wrote this all last night. Tell me if you love/hate it, give me any constructive criticism please :)

You really cut me on my heart

But that was to be expected

I nearly cut me, I should have a scar

'Cause you made me feel rejected

    And I don't know if

    I'll ever feel the same

    Will there still be butterflies

    When I hear your name?

Since I can't read your mind,

Am I on it? You're on mine

    I'm a fool to think I was

    But at least I tried

Can you possibly be any more vague?

Or take the other girl and just be on your way

I thought that we had something

Turns out that I dreamed the whole thing

Can you possibly be any more vague?

I thought I had a chance, but I guess feelings fade

I thought that we had something

Turns out that I dreamed the whole thing

I knew that I was in

    For my worst let down

I've lost most of my hope

Would you care if I should drown?

    Can you tell me if

    You ever felt the same?

    Did you ever get butterflies

    When you heard my name?

I know you can't read my mind

But you were on it all the time

I'm a fool to fall for you

Oh why did I even try?

Can you possibly be any more vague?

Or take the other girl and just be on your way

I thought that we had something

Turns out that I dreamed the whole thing

Can you possibly be any more vague?

I thought I had a chance, but I guess feelings fade

I thought that we had something

Turns out that I dreamed the whole thing

Since you said what you said

I've felt nothing but this dread

I am broken thanks to you

    And I'm almost dead

Can you possibly be any more vague?

Or take the other girl and just be on your way

I thought that we had something

Turns out that I dreamed the whole thing

Can you possibly be any more vague?

I thought I had a chance, but I guess feelings fade

I thought that we had something

Turns out that I dreamed the whole thing

Can you possibly be any more vague?

Just take the other girl and get out of my head

I thought that we had something

Turns out my dreams meant nothing

    Am I nothing to you?

  • Concerts on school nights-- Parents of teenagers, I need you!?

My parents decided last autumn that I would no longer be allowed to go to concerts on school nights. They decided this two weeks after I had asked them if I could go to a concert on a Sunday. It honestly took them two weeks to choose a two letter word. They said no because they thought I would get over-stressed and tired. I know they were only saying that because I had asked them just before school started and I was a little bit stressed (never did they think I was stressed because they wouldn't let me go.) The concert, which my two best friends got to go to, was so much fun, and I am still upset that I couldn't go, and I know that it would have been one of the most memorable days of my life, but it turned out to be one of the worst.

Now I am limited to two nights a week for concerts, so it is highly likely that my favourite bands will come on a day that I can't go to see them on, and that is already taking its toll for at least two concerts I wanted to go to this year that I missed or will miss in the near future.

I feel like my parents don't understand that going to concerts is more of a lifestyle for me than anything else. I live in Canada so it's not often that bands come to play here, since they are mostly from the US. I have been to many concerts before, at least 3 of which were on school nights, and I went to school the morning after each time, without complaint.

I am an excellent student. This term my average is about 89%. I never come late, I don't skip class, and I have never gotten detention. I am also very civil to my parents, and I never lose my temper, lash out, or swear at them. I don't sneak out at night, I don't steal money from them, I don't do drugs or smoke cigarettes or drink, and I don't go out and party. I feel like they take me for granted, since I am such an easy teenager to raise compared to how bad I could potentially be at this age, and they won't let me go to concerts on school nights.

I tried to act mature and accept their command, but I can give a legitimate reason against any reason of theirs or yours to not let me go to concerts on school nights. Tired in the morning? I'm always tired in the morning no matter what, but I've never been late for school. Stress? The only thing that has been making me stressed is that I can't go to school night concerts, and it eternally bugs me. Too expensive? I have never asked them to pay for a ticket, it has always been out of my own pocket. Affects your grades? I'm getting over 90% in 5 out of 8 of my courses, all of which are at the academic level, so I think if my grades did drop, it wouldn't be a tragedy.

How can I get them to revoke the "no concerts on school nights" law? What would you do if you were my parent and why?

  • Science Project on Battery Circuits-- PLEASE HELP!?

I'm in my first year of high school, and I have a science project about electricity and circuits, that sort of thing. We have to design and build something functional that can light up, move, or whatever, using battery circuits. I really have no ideas on what to make. My teacher told us that in the past, students have made things like lamps, neon signs, or light-up picture frames. But I don't want a lamp, I want to do something more original. One idea of mine was to wire a dress or other article of clothing, so that it would light up. I also wanted to make a frozen yogurt machine that would fit inside my locker, but for some reason, it wasn't approved... Does anyone have any good (or bad) ideas on what I should make? Remember I would need to use a battery (any kind) and make a circuit (wires). Electrical stuff isn't exactly my forte, so I won't be able to make anything like a robot. Plus I want something that isn't going to sit on my shelf and collect dust, I want something I can put to good use that I don't already have. Any websites regarding this topic would be most helpful.

    Thanks!

  • Does anyone know the name of this movie?

I remember seeing it on tv years ago (maybe when I was 5 or 6 at most, and I'm a teenager now) and I don't remember learning the name. This is what I can remember from the movie:

    - a boy (he's white, teenaged) urinates at the base of a tree, and the spirit of the tree (female, also white) comes out.

    - the tree spirit must have explained that they mated, and that he will have their baby.

    - the boy becomes pregnant with the tree spirit's baby

    - a few guys make fun of the boy for looking pregnant, and the boy tells them, angrily, that he actually is.

    - when he's about to have the baby, the tree spirit tells him and the doctor that it'll come out of the boy's mouth.

    - the boy gives birth to the baby from his mouth.

That's all I can remember, and I really want to know! I think it was from the 90s.

OK, that's not really my question, I used that to get your attention...

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense, I'm just curious to see if the frequent users of this section know who I am.

  • I feel like they're not even my family! (read below)?

Every year on Christmas Eve, my family on my dad's side gets together at one of our houses (either my dad's, his brother's, or his sister's), as is the custom. I always feel out of place when I'm with this side of my family. Maybe it's because all the female cousins on that side are 18+ and in the same age group as each other and I'm 14 years old, which makes me the youngest out of all my cousins on that side. Or maybe it's because I see them maybe 4 times a year maximum, but they seem to see each other more often. I have never enjoyed myself at get-togethers (which is usually just Christmas Eve) and now that I'm 14 my parents have let me not go to the last one, which was a surprise party. I really didn't want to go!

Now I will have to go on Christmas Eve, I won't even try to stay home, no way my parents would let me. But there's honestly nothing to do when I go to my aunt's house except hover, you know, like the kid that stands a little way away from a group of kids, hearing everything in the circle but not actually in it.

I just feel like they're not even my family, I mean I don't get any sort of feeling inside when I'm with them, no sense of belonging, nothing. Why is that? Any thoughts/ ideas? (And they are my true biological family, in case you were wondering.) Also, any suggestions as to what I should do during the 5-7 hours I'll be there?

  • Is this a good idea for a story (Please Read)?

Disclaimer: As I am 14 years old, my writing skill level isn't fantastic.

I get a lot of ideas for books to write, and my most recent one was a story about a teenager who has a really difficult life because everyone bullies and picks on him/her, and it pushes them to the limits, only the story would be from the point of view of the bullies, not the victim.

Can you think of any books in which this has happened? I think it's pretty original, since most stories about bullying are from the victim's point of view, but I may be wrong, are there countless books you can think of in which this idea has been used?

Thanks for reading and answering :)

  • Teens: can you give me a reason why you wouldn't use a condom?

Ok, just to make it clear, yes you are helping me with my homework.

My assignment is to write down an objection your partner might say against using a condom, and then write a response. The homework sheet is entitled, "Condom Comebacks"- how clever...

Already written down are objections such as:

-Don't worry, I'm on the pill,

    -I don't have any infections

    -Condoms feel unnatural

-By the time you put one on, you've lost the mood

-I feel stupid buying them/ hiding them from my parents

-They're gross and messy and I hate them

-We hardly ever have sex, just this once let's forget about it

-I don't have one with me

    -Too expensive

I'm having a hard time (for those of you who caught it, no pun intended) with this condom homework. I have no firsthand experience with this, but I know some of you have. So will you help me think of another possible objection a person might have against using a condom?

  • I want to be a foster parent when I'm an adult?

I'm 14 years old and when I'm an adult, I want to open my heart to children/ teens who don't have a family, or whatever reason they're in foster care.

I want to be a writer or a singer (the latter won't likely happen since I can't seem to have the attitude to follow my dreams). Will either of those jobs be too time consuming?

Can someone tell me what it's like to raise foster kids or to be a child in foster care?

I just want to help people and let them breathe easier because of me.
