  • Help! 13 = e^((log 3 / 11 log e)t)?

    Please help! My study group and I have been trying to figure out this question for two days now:

    Assume an account has an interest rate that is compounded continuously. If the account triples in 11 years, how long will it take 500 to grow to 6500? Give an exact answer and an answer rounded to the nearest hundredth of a year.

    We figured out the interest rate doing the following:

    1500 = 500e^11r

    3 = e^11r

    log 3 = 11r log e

    r = (log 3) / (11 log e)

    and our instructor has confirmed that is correct.

    We then plugged it into the main problem:

    6500 = 500e^((log 3 / 11 log e)t)

    13 = e^((log 3 / 11 log e)t)

    But we aren t sure what to do next! We consulted a tutor, but unfortunately he only tutors Intermediate Algebra and below and was just as stumped on this one as we were.

    Would someone be able to walk us through the rest of this problem?

    I promise this isn t for homework or a test! It s actually one we all got wrong on a test, and we want to know what we did wrong before we take our final.

    Thanks!

  • Song and Movie Title Help!?

    I am searching for a movie that I saw on tv in the winter of 2000 or spring of 2001 and I believe it came out sometime in the 90s (it didn't look brand new.) I believe it was on the Romance channel/WE (Women's Entertainment) channel or a movie channel (we had 200+ channels at the time.) I believe the movie was set in Ireland or England (I remember a lot of green hills and possibly a sheep or two in the intro/scenery.) The movie was about a young woman (20s or early 30s - long wavy red or brunette hair) who was engaged/getting married and then runs into her ex. I don't remember much about the movie except it wasn't that great, the women had an odd job (I believe she works for her father and I remember she was working on a project to maximize the number of parking spots in a parking lot), and I believe the movie's title came from or the movie contained a 80s or 90s pop song (I had the song stuck in my head for weeks afterward!)

    That leads me to my second search ...

    I am trying to remember the name of the song! I believe its from the 80s or early 90s, it's a pop song, sung by a male or group of males, and contains a line about the girl he is singing to not always being easy to love.

    I'm thinking there might have the word "two" or "second" in the title of the song or movie, but I could be wrong because I was listening to the Stacey Q song Two of Hearts around the same time (don't laugh!)

    Any ideas?

  • Does anyone know or remember this song ... Jodie Blonde?

    When I was little my grandfather used to sing this song about Jodie Blonde. I have been looking everywhere this song, but I can't find it for the life of me. I asked him who it was by, and he thought it was by Grandpa Jones (he wasn't 100% positive, though). I have heard other people reference this song, but I have yet to find anyone who knows the exact title or who it's by. Can anyone help me?

  • Why do you think the U.S. hasn't had a woman president yet?

    Many other countries have had female leaders, i.e. Great Britain, Argentina, Finland, Ireland, Chile, etc ...
