  • Can I advertise my Avon business on Facebook?

To experienced Avon reps and Avon experts: Could I BUY advertising on Facebook to promote my Avon business? I'm not talking about promoting through my profile or status updates. I mean buying advertising on Facebook to promote my business.

I understand Avon has rules about marketing and advertising and would doing this violate those rules?

  • Protection from dog attack while walking my dogs?

I can't believe it, but we've had two separate dog attack instances this week while walking our little dogs. I won't reduce the quality of my dogs' life by keeping them inside for fear of being attacked during walks, but yet I don't know how to ensure their safety either.

We've got two toy breed dogs - a 3-year old Shih Tzu and a 4-month-old Pug. The Shih Tzu weighs only 9 pounds and is completely submissive to other dogs. The Pug is only a friendly little 8-pound puppy. Neither dog would stand a chance if a bigger dog wanted to hurt them.

Earlier this week my husband and teenage daughter were out walking the dogs. A German Shepard bolted out an open front door behind it's owner and attempted to attack our Pug puppy. Fortunately my strong and athletic husband was able to tackle the German Shepherd to the ground and my daughter pulled the puppy out of harm's way before the German Shepherd could hurt it. Still the dog attempted to bite my husband and daughter before my husband overpowered it and it ran back to the owner.

Our Pug puppy is very lucky as my husband seldom walks the dogs and if I had been in his place there is no way I could've protected either dog and I probably would've ended up being bitten as well. (By the way we did contact the police and a report was filed. The German Shepard was warned by police that he has to control his dog. As no one sustained any physical injury we decided not to prosecute.)

Then yesterday morning I was walking the dogs down a different street. Three large breed dogs including an ominious German Shepherd mix were barking ferociously and pounding hard on the front window of the house from the inside as we walked in front of the house. They were pounding so hard I could see the pane of glase bowing in and out and feared they would break the glass and come after me and my dogs. A few seconds later my fear was realized when they shattered the window and the German Shepherd attempted to jump out to come after us. Fortunately sharp shards of glass protruding through the hole in the window made him think twice long enough for us to make it back home. Today I've seen missing dog signs for that German Shepherd, so he apparently eventually got out and could be roaming free in the neighborhood - so the nightmare may not be over.

My husband works 12-15 hours a day and can't protect us every time I walk the dogs. What do I do? Someone suggested I carry a ballbat. How do I protect myself and my little dogs from vicious dogs?

  • English Bulldog: Boy or girl?

I want to add an English Bulldog to our pack, but not sure if I want the puppy to be a boy or a girl. I've got two submissive dogs - a male neutered adult Shih Tzu and a female Pug puppy (she will be spayed when she is old enough).

The human members of our family include my husband and I plus our two daughters- ages 18 and 9.

For those of you who have had bulldogs for pets, which gender do you feel would be a good fit for our family? Why?

My primary concern is temperament and that the personalities of our dogs complement each other. I don't want to get an aggressive dog that will bully the two submissive dogs I have. I know sometimes people feel there are temperament, behavior and personality differences with some genders.in certain breeds.

  • What is your favorite dog food cookbook?

I'm planning on switching my dogs to home-cooked meals. I'm not interested in raw. I would love a cookbook that has meals that can be cooked in advance and frozen so I don't have to cook for the dogs every night.

  • Are Boston Terriers troublemakers?

I would love to get a Boston Terrier. I think they are adorable. My daughter, however, works at PetsMart and says many Boston Terriers have been expelled from the doggie day camp because they are aggressive to other dogs and start fights. Is this typical behavior or is my daughter exaggerating?

I've got a submissive Shih Tzu, so I don't want to put his happiness and welfare at risk by bringing a Boston Terrier into the house who is always looking to pick a fight.

  • How can I adopt vegetarian diet with soybean allergy?

I would like to cut down on the meat I eat while increasing the amount of fruit and veggies. Unfortunately my diet is limited by my numerous food allergies. One of my severest allergies is soybeans -- so, this pretty much eliminates the possibility of eating tofu or seitan.

How can I cut out meats, but still get protein in my diet without eating soybean-based foods?

  • Going to retro-concerts this year?

Anyone going to any of the reunion concerts this year?

This summer's concert lineup is a dream come true for those of us who remember the late 70s and 80s with fondness. We saw Foreigner in Las Vegas last weekend. With their new lead singer, Kelly Hansen, they played an awesome show of their greatest hits. They have a new album with new material coming out this year.

I just bought tickets today for The Police's Phoenix show. Words can not describe my excitement! Since 1984 I have lamented about how I never got to see them before they broke up. I'm still in shock that they are touring and that I got awesome floor seats at their concert.

I'm waiting anxiously for the release of Van Halen's tour dates with David Lee Roth. The Eagles are also supposed to be coming out with their first album of new material since 1978 or 1979 which is supposed to be followed up by a tour.

Someone pinch me - I must be dreaming. ROCK ON!

  • What are those weird 'story' spam emails?

What is the deal with the emails that have excerpts from a story or something. There is no sales pitch, so what is their purpose? You never get the entire story beginning to end anyway - not that I care.

  • Hearty, beginners fish for 3-gallon tank?

We got my daughter a 3-gallon tank for Christmas and had three fish in there, two of them mollies. I just found both mollies dead at the bottom of the tank and I have no clue why. They were frisky and eating well yesterday. The water is clear and the filter seems to be working. If one were dead I could chalk it up to an individual problem, but since both died at the same time it leads me to believe something is wrong with the tank.

Anyway, I guess we need to start over. What fish should I replace them with and what can I do to make sure they live a normal lifespan?
