  • Wild hog hunting in Florida?

I am trying to line up a surprise 30th birthday hog hunting trip for my hubby.

His birthday isn't until March so I have time to work out all the details.

What I need most is the location! Some farm or open real estate that is having a

problem with hogs where he, and about 4 friends, can hunt.

The best location would be aound North Central/Panhandle area of Fla. My parents

live in Lake City so near there would be ideal so the guys don't have to pay for

lodging. They would either camp or stay at my Dads.

    Can anyone help!!???

  • Participating in a chocolate fest?

I am organizing a chocolate fest at the fire house to which I belong.

I was planning to invite chefs/bakers etc from local restaurants, country clubs, bakeries etc to participate.

Someone said they didn't think any "professionals" would want to participate bcse we aren't offering large cash prizes.

This is our first time doing it so we wanted to keep prizes on the smaller size and build up as the event grows...

I was thinking $50 and a prize medal for first $30-40 for second and $20-25 for 3rd...

Unless we get a great turn out of entries then we can use some the money from entering to build the kitty for the prize money.

My question is if you are a "professional" would you participate to support the fire house or forgo the event ?

  • planning a chocolate fest?

I am trying to put together a chocolate fest at our local fire house to raise money.

It would be open to professionals and amateurs and kids. They would be able to enter their cookies, brownies, cake/pie, cheesecake and candy creations.

Since this would be our first time hosting this event we wouldn't give out hefty prizes, more like ribbons for placing and maybe gift cards.

They would be charged an fee to enter their goods.

The public would be invited to sample the creations after judging.

So far I have the idea to call and invite, or mail invites, to local bakeries, executive chefs at country clubs and hotels and restaurants. As well as culinary schools and trade schools. We would also advertise in the local paper, our website and send Facebook invites with a spread the word attached...

We would provide tables but the entrants would have to bring everything else they need.

Availability of electricity is limited so we would ask people try to limit their need for it.

We are thinking of having it in mid June.

I am not sure if we are going to have wine served, it might be a soda/water only beverage selection.

Do I sound like I have all bases covered? Am I missing anything?

  • Suggestions for where to advertise?

I am putting together several events for the fire house I am a member of...

    BBQ Cook-off

    Chili Cook-off

    Cookie Dough Sale

Beef n Beer Cancer Benefit... and more

So far I have thought to advertise the events the following ways:

    Facebook event

local newspaper in the what's happening section

reader board at the fire house

    fire house web site

radio stations and radio station facebook pages

Can anyone think of any where else I can advertise?

  • Giving a 2 yo candy at 9am?

So I was baby sitting today for a 2 year old and his 9 month old brother. Their grandfather was home but he is unable to care for them by himself hence my being there.

Well here comes the 2 year old with twizzlers at about 9 am that his "Pop" gave him.

Seriously not cool in my book.

At what age did you let your kids have candy and what time was it in the day?

  • does this sound like enough food?

We are having a heavy Hors d'œuvres reception with beer, wine, soda and captain.

The menu I have so far is as follows

Asparagus & Spinach Mini Bread Bowls - 96 of these

Jalapeno & Cheese Mini Bread Bowls - 96 of these

    Club Spirals- 60ish of these

    Turkey Spirals- 60ish of these

    Salami Spirals- 60ish of these

    Ham & Pineapple Skewers

    Surf & Turf Skewers

Crab Cakes- 200 mini crab cakes

Meat Balls - 5 lbs, can get another 5 lbs if needed

    Asian Wings- 10 lbs worth

    Chicken with ??? Skewers

    Fried ??? Ravioli - 100 of these

Oh also having cheese, pepperoni and crackers with olives and pickle platter and a veggie platter with grapes and 2 dips for it.

We are serving a wedding cake and 5 types of mini desserts

Does this sound sufficient for 80-90 guests?

It will be noted on the invitations that this is a cocktail and Hors d'œuvres reception. Time of ceremony is 5pm, reception to follow. I was planning to wait to put food out till closer to our arrival to the reception location.

  • Where can I find shoes for my outdoor wedding?!!?

I am looking for sandals or wedges that I, and my bridal party, can wear so we don't sink in to the ground at the ceremony site. I can't predict if the ground will be total hard or if it might be a bit soft at the park where we are going to be wed so I am rethinking (tear) the totally cute shoes I already have.

Does anyone have a site they can recommend that has shoes for under $25 that are springy and have a nice wide or flat heel?

    Thanks
