  • Shouldn't everyone working for a living as hard as they can be making a livable wage?

According to the US Labor Dept. 70% of American workers earn less than the need. Shouldn't everyone working 40 hours a week, make enough to pay all cost of living bills?

  • How do I attract Volunteers and donatations to advertise the system is broken?

Our non-profit lives up to its name too well. We serve the Homeless, and those made unsheltered due to poverty. In Maine and many states Homeless Shelters are over booked. Bangor ME. lacks any family shelter and General Assistance, turn people away from motels.

People who work as hard as humanly possible, often make less than the LOWEST Rent. Roommates and significant others move out.

When people are paid less than the need, something is wrong. - But the public does not want to hear the news that the systems are broken. News papers do not give free public services to announce we need the prices deflated to a 1960 level to still make a livable wage.

I am sure there are good people out there who would give to correcting the root of financial evil, I just cannot find them.

Please give me ideas on how to look without funds.

If you want to "volunteer your time"-write Hospitality House Inc., PO Box 105,Fairfield ME 04937. Seek people of vision from all 50 states.

  • When 70% of American workers, are paid under the amount required to break even; is that unjust?

When 70% of American workers, are paid under the amount required to break even, is that unjust? Is it unfair to pay someone working as hard as they can less than the need? As someone in the homeless business, I think so.

Not only does America need jobs. They need Good paying jobs. All workers should make enough to pay all their reasonable monthly and yearly bills plus repairs. But according to the US LABOR DEPT. own figures, only 30% make a livable wage.

Us at Hospitality House Inc, feels this number is inflated, that less than 20% make a real Cost of Living wage. But using the US Governments own figures that estimation leaves 70 % of all American workers with less the cost of living. The late US Senator said "nobody working for a living should be living in poverty.

The real Definition of lack, is making less than the actual cost of living. We need jobs which will pay the cost of basic needs as rent, food, transportation, insurances, and repairs. Is a pay rate less then the actual cost of living unjust?

  • who know As of July 13, 29 public companies had more cash on hand than the U.S. Treasury Department?

This means places like Bank of America has more money than the government while hard workers are underpaid-so they become homeless. How does this make you feel? I think even Tea Partiers would join me in calling for adequate pay. The basic Cost of living being paid to all; if they realized what I have seen. In fact there should be a law that no company should have more cash on hand then the US Treasury until all are paid a realistic wage

  • If 70% of the population are paid under the cost of living, are employers the cause of poverty?

Know I know many of you out there are Tea Partiess. The Main thing I am against is you blame the wrong cause. How many of you think employers are badly paying their workers? Will the US Labor Dept says only 30% of all American workers are being paid a livable wage.

Ok how many of you can pay not just your month costs, like your rent, food electric, and heating, but also pay your yearly costs like repairs, insurances, license's on $10.60 an hour. This is considered the livable wage in Maine. Only HUD Figures it cost $14.00 an hour for rent.

With out debating if the government's livable wage is low- the opposite of 30% making enough to pay their bills, is 70% make less than ENOUGH to Pay Their bills.

Workers have no control over their pay rate- unless they actually tell their bosses "Please pay me less". Have you ever heard workers complain they are getting to much pay?

Please tell me what are the thoughts of those with not quite enough, including the Tea Parties.

  • Do you think Media is Broken?

As an advocate, I have been told Do Not brother writing editorials questioning the BAD application of laws as it refers to the Poor. ARE these the actions of a Free Press I Think Not. So I have called for people to email censorship on aspects of poverty topic to accuracy@usatoday.

Only I know of those who might write from this site, it would be the tea partier type,to say Keep the Poor voiceless. The question is Do you think media is broken?

  • Can we fix poverty by ommitting to count 40 million Amreicans, who are lost in poverty?

The utility poverty level in US CONGRESS now. It would count less than half more people who are poor. When a washing machine or car needs replacing or repairs, the entire budget of the underpaid are upset. The poor in rurals areas could be unable to work without a car.

The Utility Poverty level is suppose to fix the flaws of the 1964 Mollie Orshansky' Follies. 45 years it takes to fix a governmental mistake?

Even the big allies of the poor, seem to have lower than a Realistic budget . In 2007, a think tank in Maine, said "To pay a livable wage would cost $17 something, an hour for 40 hours." In 2009 HUD gives the hourly rate to pay a rent at $15 and change an hour. Without inflation, that gives workers $2 and hour to live on for everything else. Most of that $2 will go to taxes.

This think tank calulates the cost of living roughly once a decade.

As an advocate for those unable to pay their rent, buy food, deal with even out of pocket costs of health care, this count will not include the real amount of people paid less than the amount of their humanly unavoidable bills.

I want not just a Utitilty rate, but also "repairs" poverty level. I want a bill which covers the actual amounts. Otherwise I think you will be waiting 45 years for this mistake to be fixed. I want a Repair poverty Level.

The government underated the need once, and waiting 45 years to fix it. Only our voices will prevent them from doing the same a second time.

  • What do you think of the federal law giving renters have an added 90 days eviction protection?

Banks and mortgage companies can no longer require the tenant be removed the same day as the former owner.

Once the bank takes the house back, they become the "Land-Lord" They must provide all the same utilities the former land owner provided. And the federal law in effect now until Dec. 2012, gives the tenant 90 days no matter their state laws, except in few cases, as the land lord moving into the building.

In a case where the land lord physically moved in the protection laws would revert to state law or contract laws.

Neither law gives the new landlord right of automatic eviction on the day the former owner is out.

  • Will Obama ask the right questions on poverty?

With the election of Mr. Obama, the biggest America newspapers found the forgotten 1960 word of "Disadvantage" for the people who are "Underpaid"

Inadequately paid, is a word selected by a person of poverty. because it places the blame on the government, and employers who pay less then the cost of a simple life price tag.

Will the press pick up on that word? Not for a decade or more. They must make it their own before using it.

I As a freedom fighter looking for justice for the underpaid- those making under $70,000, are the lower middle income. These are people who cannot afford a lawyer/and to eat at the same time.

See www.Hospitalityhouseofmaine.org for solutions to end 100% of poverty before a 6 year old in 2008 graduates high school.

  • How does one make a living on minimum wage?

Different states has different amounts of income required to pay all expenses, as Rent, Food, Medical, and Heat. About 17 states has minimum wages above the federal guidelines.

Here in Maine its $7.25 an hour. But a think tank found in 2007 it costs $17.60 an hour to pay rent, food, car registration, clothes, etc. Good jobs with top ranking start at $10.00 an hour.

If someone is paid $7.25 an hour they must work 100 hours before taxes to pay their $725.00 rent. that is 2 1/2 weeks at 40 hours. Most employers do not give 40 hours a week its between. Another 1/2 of a week of work will pay .

    taxes.

That means 1 week pay is left to pay everything besides rent. As Stores do not charge less for food, for people making under $17,000 a year, It take more of the income of a minimum wager to purchase food than it takes someone making $50,000 a year.

Where is the extra suppose to come from?

  • Is it ethical to pay someone less then the price of rent?

At a central Maine’s hospital waiting room a hotline operator and a food bank operator was heard talking about poverty. The Hotline staff-person said she found a quotation to the effect from the 1800’s that-at the manner in which we think about poverty keeps people mired in human lack. And that is just as true today as 100 years ago.

Foolish me I thought it was I lacked enough funds to pay my bills.

Could it be something as simple as believing it costs 1% of the worlds wealth to end poverty, to end human suffering?

Could paying 100% of all people 110% of the need mean that all of the formerly underpaid remained housed?

What are your thoughts on curing poverty?

Did Christ say The poor will always be with us, in speaking about greed of the non-poor?

Is it ethical to pay someone less then the price of rent?

  • Is having the government tell proper law the first time a human right?

How many of you believe if you are putting on a mother-in law addition to your house; Your town should properly inform you of all the ordinances you need to comply with? Or do you want ordincance made up at whim to prevent that addition.

I say this is assuming you like your mother or the family member who is going to move in.
