  • Advanced Excel: How do you display data from non adjacent cells?

I have two worksheets in an excel spreadsheet. The first sheet has all the data, and I want to display it in an unorthodox order on the second sheet. Since I can't discuss what I'm actually doing, let's create a hypothetical:

First Sheet; each row has contact information. A1 has first name, B1 has last name, C1 has street address, D1 has state, E1 has zip, F1 has phone#. A'x' has same data for additional contacts.

Now on the second sheet, I want to display first, last, ph#. using sheet1!a1 in a1 works fine. copy / paste that formula to b1 works fine. Trying to get excel to display sheet1!f1 in a3 cannot be done without editing the formula for each cell. Not a problem unless there's 1,000 contacts, and I have to build a third sheet that has only address info.

Yeesh! Any way to automate this garbage?

btw, absolute references / relative references do not help, given the layout(s) of the data on subsequent pages.

  • Old, old DOS based game?

Many moons ago (circa 1988) there was a DOS based game about the old west. I think you started with a wagon train, and if you passed that level (or it may have been the sequel) you ran a cattle ranch.

    Does anyone remember that game???

  • Any registry hacks out there? My laptop isn't as loud as it used to be...?

I used to be able to set my laptop on the counter and hear it across the room. I was in the control panel monkeying with some of the sound settings - all was cool. Later I went back in and clicked 'reset'. Now I can barely hear it when I'm using it!

What registry key will I need to change to make it loud again? Anybody know?

  • I want to connect to shares on my home PC (Windows ME) from the road (Laptop w/ XP) via the web...?

And I can't do it. I thought the steps were: create the share, forward the ports, and voila?

The shares are created, and when I'm at home (on that side of my router) all is good. From the other side, nothing doing. Are there steps I'm missing? Are there ports I'm missing? What other options work well? (can rcmd work on W-ME, if so, what are the steps for that?)

  • how do I turn off auto-update?

'm using Windows XP. I get the balloon in the lower right. I tell that not to upgrade. It downloads anyway.

Then I get the opportunity to allow it to install the upgrade I told it not to download when I shut down. If I tell it no 3 times, it now hounds me with a pop up every 5 minutes.

Since it refuses to listen, how do I kill it?
