  • How do I disable weather pop-up on Windows 10?

Since the last update I received every day around 8 PM or so a white pop up box appears on the bottom right hand corner of my screen. It even minimizes any games I'm playing when it does this. How do I turn it off?

  • Help with 7zip file compression?

I have an external hard-drive and I needed to move most of my files off of it, so I tried compressing the majority of it into a zip folder. However I cancelled the compression partway but the box hasn't disappeared, and I currently can't open any files on my harddrive.

The compression speed has been dwindling while the actual compression hasn't been progressing so I'm hoping it will eventually stop on its own but I've been waiting on it to do that for almost six hours now.

Is the GUI box simply sticking around? Is there another way to cancel it safely? Will my files be okay if I simply unplugged my external hard-drive?

  • Was every member of Germany's WWII armed forces officially a member of the Nazi Party?

Technically speaking the Nazis were a political party, I was just wondering if a soldier had to be a part of it to be in Germany's armed forces at the time. Yes this is largely academic and would have meant zilch to the soldiers on the opposing side, just curious.

  • How would a "shock" interact with bathing?

I will be the first to admit I suck at physics but I find myself curious.

The key to the multiple parts of my question, is that the shock is no more potent than if you get shocked touching your car door on a particularly cold day. Painful but almost never life-threatening.

So what would happen to a person if a shock of such potency were introduced to bath water?

What would happen to a person if a shock of such potency were introduced if that person were showering?

What would happen to a person if a shock of such potency were introduced if they'd washed themselves with a soapy sponge?

Would any of these answers change if they were on a rubber bath-mat?

  • Can a short person wield a "short" weapon?

Say we have someone of about 4'6" (Four and a half feet). The weapon in question is a longsword (or similar style of blade) that is no more than three feet long.

Would this be impractical enough to push it into unwieldy territory? Or could a person of such height hypothetically learn to compensate with minimal difficulty?

  • Interview: Seattle, WA in 1990 & 2000?

Doing research and I think it best to get the perspective of anyone who lives, or has been in Seattle during the years 1990, and 2000 (the intervening years would be nice but not as important as those two). So questions for both years.

What were the places to hang out when you had the time?

What were the neighborhoods like? Housing and apartments?

Big events during those years? Even annual ones that I happened to miss during my own research will do.

What was the nightlife like? Clubs that have been around for a long time? Any that are still open today?

Art galleries or shows? Movies? Other entertainment?

Basically I'm not looking for census data, I want the Seattle local perspective. Thanks for any and all help you can provide!

  • Is this the right thing to do?

Paying for college sucks. This semester I can manage to pay for, but next semester would be beyond my means. My parents have generously said they'll cover whatever financial aid can't pick up and I'm grateful, but it's a lot of money and I always feel guilty whenever they make such offers (they've made similar offers before but I managed to squeak by on my own somehow).

I guess one of the things that concerns me the most is that if I blow it somehow and fail or if I can't continue my education for some other reason I can't foresee, that will waste their investment in my education. I can't bear the thought of failing them like that. Would letting them help pay for next semester be right?

  • Which comic book hero has had the most love interests?

Back when I was more dedicated to the comics I remember that Daredevil and Spider-Man have had quite a few, as well as Batman for that matter. But now out of idle curiosity, which comic book superhero has had the most (named) love interests?

  • How long before I can access a "reported attack site" safely again?

I regularly read a number of webcomics, but today when I went to check for updates I'm suddenly told that Firefox has identified half of them as "Reported attack sites." I get that things can happen that the owners of the site are unaware of, even so I've been going to these sites for over a year with no problems with my computer, how long does it usually take to sort this out, and will Firefox stop blocking me automatically if it has been resolved? Or will I have to do something manually?

  • Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage help?

I moved all of my Fallout 3 data to a different storage device to make room for other games and whatnot, now whenever I sit in the chair to start up the Operation Anchorage simulation my game just freezes. What gives?

  • Your opinion on what to play through?

I have five games I haven't played all the way through on. I've set them all aside for so long that I may as well to start from the beginning regardless of which one I play. So what are your opinions?

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

    Fallout 3

    Kid Icarus: Uprising

    Tales of the Abyss

  • Wait, did DC reboot again?

I know this is a noob question, but I'm not an avid comic book fan (I like them and all but...). But last I remembered, DC rebooted their universe back in the 80's, but now I'm hearing that they've rebooted again? Did they? When did this happen?

  • Why does my chest hurt when I lay down?

Yesterday I had a bad illness with puking and diarrhea, but right now I'm recovering. I woke up thirsty so I had very tiny sips of Sprite, now when I try and lay back down my chest hurts, and then when I sit back up I burp loudly? Is this just gas from the Sprite or what?

  • What is the title of this manga?

It was a oneshot, there were three main characters, two girls that were sisters I think, both sisters wore a school uniform with the ouroboros on the back of it, and the last main character was a guy; the guy would frequently remark on his and other people's "bad habits" or something to that effect.

Those are all the details I can recall, does anyone know the title of this one?

  • What game should I play?

I can't believe it has come to this, but yes, I can't decide what game to play.

    I've narrowed it down to:

    Jade Empire

    Star Wars: KotOR 2

    Mass Effect 3

    Dragon Age: Origins

    Bayonetta

Dark Souls (just completed it but I don't know, a second run is tempting)

  • What should I do with myself?

This may end up seeming like little more than a pathetic, emotional rant, but at this point I don't even care anymore how I appear... part of me feels like giving up anyway.

I was finally pulling things together from losing my wallet when my school's financial aid office drops a huge bomb on me, thus I have to scramble to fix the problem, and just when that one's fixed another problem comes up, and then finally when it seems like that one is fixed, it turns out that the aid isn't going to be near enough without my parents taking out a huge loan that they may or may not qualify for...

It feels so pathetic, it feels like any problem I try to fix never stays fixed; and no matter how many times my mother tells me she's happy to help me, bless her heart, I can't help but feel so pathetic for having to turn to her and dad. I've been crying, being cheered up, and even imposing on my parents for what? A second degree that I'm not even sure I need? And that's if I'm even able to get that far. I honestly don't know if I can take anymore of this stonewalling; I feel like drowning in soda, or breaking something fragile, or just laying down for a nice long nap.

I want to make it to that future I envision where I can bring my ideas to life, but another part of me just feels too powerless to get that far.

  • What should I do about my laptop sound?

I have an Alienware M14X, it's maybe five to six months old; and lately a strange problem with my sound has cropped up. On any audio (game music, videos, music from my library, etc.) at random times the track will fade and go quieter, less bass as well from the sound of it, before returning back to normal.

Under my device manager I have "High Definition Audio Device" and "Realtek High Definition Audio" however the "High Definition Audio Device" is always labelled as unplugged, and I already made sure that I have the latest drivers.

    Are their any suggestions/solutions?

  • How can I improve my mood?

It's been a rough two weeks what with a missing wallet, my school's financial aid office informing me of something they should have told me about sooner, amongst other things. Even as I do what I need to do to fix all of the associated problems I keep encountering smaller problems that make me feel hopeless even though when approached logically they can be fixed in two or three steps (or worse turn out not to be a problem), things that used to be only minor annoyances make me angry, and even though the act of doing my favorite hobbies keeps me satisfied while doing them, I don't maintain a good feeling once I stop.

What do I need to do to improve my mood?

  • How much slowdown would occur using a non Xbox360 flash drive?

Suppose I use a 16GB flash drive, but not the one specifically made for xbox 360, and then say, played a game of Dragon Age: Origins or something else of similar specs using said flash drive for storing the game saves and its add-ons, are there any issues that I would notice or be hindered by in the actual gameplay? Or any other quality issues?
