Cadence felt her heart sink to the pit of her stomache as she saw the new faces, but no one could see that by the look on her face. Ger smile showed all the confidence she needed.

The whispers arose. Gossip and rumors flew wild. It had only been one night, just a few hours. How could they even know? Cadence could feel her heartbeat accelerate, her cheeks felt hot, her stomache was in knots.

She took a deep breath and shook her auburn brown hair and walked inside the classroom. There he was. Jeffery Carson. His chocolate eyes were so goregous. It was so easy to look into them and get lost for all ethernity. His tan complexion was always so smooth, and his midnight black hair was always spiked just perfectly.

So why was he aknowledging her presence? Why did he crave her attention? Was it real? A bet? A dream? Jeff's choclate eyes flashed her direction and outcame that million dollar smile. Carson smiled right back replaying last night's conversation in her head. Those words. His stare. That kiss. He sounded so sincere. This had to be real.

Finally! The last school bell rang. Cadence gathereed her things and stepped out into the jungle of a hallway. It was like a pack of wolves running, hunting, seearching. Searching for an escape.

Cadence felt a shove against her back and she was on the floor. The hourly rushed seemed completely dead. She quickly turned towards the water fountain. Footsteps. They came closer and closer. Her heartbeat sped up. She saw a shadow growing and released her held breath once she saw that black cotton candy hair.

"Dustin, you scared me," stammered Cadence. "What are you doing here?"

Dustin's caramel colored skin shinned in the dim light, almost glowing. He got onn his knees to help Cadence pick up her books. Their hands touched. His cheeks faded to pale and his blindindg smile dissapeared. His eyes, those icy blue eyes, were so cold, almost like death itself lay inside them.

Who is this? She thought. Cadence quickly retracted her hand but Dustin caught her arm. Tighter anbd tighter he grasped.

"Let go, you're hurting me!" Cadence screamed.

Her hazel eyes flashed towards this tall, lean figure with broad shoulders. It had a ring arounds its finger which reflected the ceiling lights.

In a soft comforting voice out came the words, " don't you ever touch her like that again."

Dustin smirked and walked away laughing.

"He didn't hurt you did he?" Asked Jeff, "Here let me help you up."

"Thanks," Cadence replied and as she dusted herself off she said," that Dustin's a re-" He was gone.

I'm not sure what should happen next

My fingers twiddled the moon pendant on my mom's necklace. I threw back my long black hair and turned to Allison Malhoun, the althletic bleach blonde all the boys were after.

"Alli?"

"What's up girl?"

"Well, I was just wondering if you could help me get ready for the Sadie Hawkins day dance. Since my mom-," my voice cut short.

Allison immediately saw my face and pulled me to her chest, "No worries girlfriend! I'd be happy to help you, my house, say 4 o' clock?"

The bell rang. I nodded and darted off to choir practice.

I paused on the Malhoun doorstep and took a deep breath; before she could exhale Allison was pulling me up the stairs and into her bedroom.

"Come on Hazel, we need to start your makeup and hair, and don't get me started on what to do with your nails!"

I obeyed and followed down the long hall to Allison's master bedroom.

Pink fluffy carpets lined the walls while white tiles filled in the floor. Straightners, curlers, lipstick, and all sorts of stuff seemed to be on display.

"What does all this do?"

"You'll see Hazel," Allison winked and sat me down on the purple waterbed. "Just relax, did you bring the dress?"

I nodded.

"Hey Alli, what if we already met that one special guy, but we just weren't ready to fall in love. Is that possible?" I questioned.

"I suppose so, Haze."

Things grew silent for what seemed an eternity.

"Just one more strand," Allison bit her lower lip the brought out a lighted mirror," perfect. Now no guy will be able to resist you."

"I-I- thank you." I smiled.

I expected to just stand back while all the popular girls got all the attention, but to my shocking surprise, when I stepped into the gym at St. Eastwood High, time froze. My heart raced as I immediately looked for him. Just a few breaths later I noticed all eyes were on me. I began to panic.
