  • What to look for when purchasing a Ford 7.3 IDI non-turbo Diesel truck?

A 1992 Ford F-350 4wd (not lifted) with a 7.3 non-turbo idi, with an automatic transmission (I believe it's an E4OD) for a really decent deal considering the truck it is. I am a heavy equipment diesel tech. but haven't had any dealings with these IDI trucks, so is there some thing I should be aware of? I know I've heard about cavitation. The seller says It could use new brakes, and that he's kept it maintained in the time he's owned it, but hasn't done the brake because he doesn't use as much due to him selling of his cattle, but still runs it every now and then to keep the fuel from jelling.

So what should I pay special attention to if and when I go to look at it, also what kind of fuel millage could one ruffly expect? Thanks.

  • 1996 Ford Windstar starting issues?

My dad just picked up a 96 Ford Windstar 3.8 V6 for stupid cheap to drive back and forth to work because of high diesel cost. It has a problem starting, you have to cycle the key multiple times for it to start, it just clicks then eventually starts up and runs like a top! the previous owner (a retired ASE master tech.) believes it's the starter and so do I (I'm a heavy equipment tech) but haven't had time to fuss with and don't love diagnosing vehicle electrical issues. Just looking for some more opinions and would be highly appreciated, thanks!!!

  • Is my 1989 Chevy K2500 a 8600GVWR or 7200GVWR?

How can I tell if my truck is a 8600 GVWR or a 7200 GVWR. I do not have the sticker on the door and the one in the glove box is unreadable! It is an 8-lug not a 6-lug so it make me think It's a 8600 GVWR. Having ALOT of problems buying suspension and brake parts. Can someone please answer my question I need to buy new ball joints and I don't KNOW!

  • How do I know if my distributor "fly weights" are bad in my 89 chevy 350?

My truck is still missing at mid-acceleration. Thankfully it wasn't a burnt valve as each cylinder has about 160 psi on it. Also it wasn't the TPS sensor, or map sensor, and these trucks DON'T have MAF sensers. My buddy who is a Ex-Chevy tech. told me its a ignition miss, but with a new coil, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor I believe I've norowed it down to the distributor. Since it's at mi-acceleration I think its the "fly weights" not advancing from the answer from my previous question. Any ideas anywhere?

  • My 89 chevy K2500 misses/sputters at mid acceleration?

The ignition system was replaced less than a year ago with preformance Accel parts, and the coil was replaced today with one from MSD. My fuel pump assem. was also replaced in the last year. I replaced the fuel filter in the last 500 miles. Checked for vacuum leaks found one and replaced the hose, but it still continues to miss at mid acceleration, but it stops at 55mph. It also has been burning more fuel since it started missing. The fuel injectors are spaying fine. I am starting to beleave it is the throttle position sensor, or another sensor. Any ideas at what it could be?
