  • With the newest laws, can I claim my fiancé’s daughter (& my disabled sister) on my taxes? Plz read on?

I’ve heard conflicting opinions, so I was hoping someone here could help. My boyfriend & his daughter (8 years old) lived with for all of 2009. I supported them. He only worked about 1 month last year & asked me to claim his daughter. Her mother is not in her life (she has no rights to her, plus she was in jail the entire year of 2009). There is no one else that can claim her.

I’ve heard that due to new laws, that I could file “single” as claim my fiancé’s daughter as a “qualifying relative”, since she is blood related & not yet legally, related to me. I’ve been claiming my 48 year old sister (who is permanently & totally disabled) for several years now (she did not work at all last year & no one else can claim her). So could I file as “single” & claim them both as “qualifying relative”? If so, why does that work under “single” & not “head of household”?

Would this allow me to claim the “child tax credit” on my fiancé’s daughter & “Earned Income Credit” on both of them? Any other tips with this would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • What is the Best Brand of Dog food for my Chihuahuah/Shi tzu mix (healthy & tasty for him)?

I've seen that the "Best Brand of Dog Food" question has been asked several times. But I wanted to get a little more specific w/my specific dog & his situation. He is a Chihuahua/Shi tzu mix & is about a year 1/2 old. He started off on Science Diet, because that's what the vet recommended (I got him @ 6 weeks old, I'm not sure what he was being fed before). Sadly, he got into the routine of eating some human food. While I was at work, my mom & sister would feed him human food, then my boyfriend would do it. They ignored my pleas to stop. Now I'm out on my own & am determined to get him on a healthy, nutritious food, that he'll like the taste of. Because of how he was eating, he weighs about 5 lbs more than he should. I'm hoping to find several recommendations on the same brand of food. Even if it's the kind not found in stores. Thank you!

  • I keep having the same type of dream over & over, I hope someone can tell me what it means?

My mother passed away in March of last year. I was taking care of her. She was on oxygen & would often take it off & I'd have to tell her to put it back on. She still smoked, so she'd often take it off to go outside & smoke, then come back in & put it back on. She hated it, as I'm sure most people would. I found her, when she passed. She was in bed & had try to get up to go smoke. She had taken her oxygen off & threw it on the floor & apparently fell back on the bed. Every since she passed, I frequently (almost every night) dream that she's either "came back" or didn't really die. And in my dreams, I'm making sure she has her oxygen on & I worry about how I'm going to let everyone know that she didn't really die. In every dream, I talk about how I need to contact her doctor & somehow explain that she came back to life & I need to get her insurance back, so we can get her some more oxygen, because she's always about to run out. The dreams will occur in different places, with different people around & the wording will be different. But it's always the same thing. I never just have a dream & mom's in it. It's always involving her "not really being gone, like everyone thought" & me worrying about explaining that & how to get the death certificate retracted & getting mom more oxygen. Why do I keep having this type of dream? What does it mean?

  • I filed bankruptcy & recently received my discharge letter. So it's done, I can start "fresh". But how?

After all of the months of gathering & filling out paperwork & meetings, etc...it's finally over & done. My Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is finally discharged. But I have no clue what to do from here, to try to improve my credit. Don't I have to open up credit at a place & make payments on time, to start raising my FICA score? But who will give someone credit that just filed bankruptcy? I just don't know where to turn from here. All sincere help is much appreciated, thank you!

  • What is a good reason, that I cld give my boss, as to why I HAVE to leave early one day. Please read more...?

I had to file for bankruptcy. I work for a small business. I know how the boss feels about people getting in debt. Anyway, my hearing date is set a few weeks ago, but it's on our busiest day of the week. I HAVE to attend that day, at a certain time. What can I tell my boss that I have to do, that is very important, that the date & time cannot be changed for? I'll be gone a few hours, then can go back to work. I just don't know what to tell them. I don't wan them knowing it's a bankruptcy hearing. I can't just say it's something important, because they'll want to know what it is, because it's on our busiest day. Any suggestions?

  • When someone dies, who do credit card companies expect to pay off the balance & can anyone be held liable?

My mother recently passed away. She had 1 credit card. I just called to cancel the card & advise of her death. They quickly mentioned that the bill would need to be paid by the estate. My mother wasn't a rich woman & there really isn't an "estate". She didn't have a will or own anything, such as a house or car. Who do credit card companies expect to pay the bills off? Can they lawfully "make" any certain person pay off the bill? It was under $500. Thank you.

  • Can Payday loans (check advances) be used in bankruptcy Ch. 7? Please read for more?

I've gotten into the check advance rut. I have to pay the check off & write another one, causing me to pay $60 in fees per month. I went to an attorney for a free consultation for Bankruptcy Ch. 7. In the papwork I filled out, it asked what type of debts I owed. Payday loans was an option (I do owe much more than this, though). I'm trying to come up w/the money to do the bankruptcy (I really have no other choice). I just had to pay the check advance & write another check. When I got home, I read my copy (truthfully, for the first time...most people don't read the "fine print" & I'm one of them, sadly). In the paper I signed, it says you're signing to say you aren't going to be going bankrupt & says something about arbitration. Does this mean the bankrupty would NOT cover the payday loan? Am I going to have to pay this somehow & not be able to file it in the bankruptcy? (I live in TN, if that matters). Thank you!

  • Have you ever filed bankrupty using a bankruptcy kit, or now someone who has?

I know they have bankruptcy kits. To me, I'd be afraid I wouldn't do everything right. How hard are they to use? I know it's a lot cheaper then getting a lawyer, but is it really better?

  • If I filed my taxes thru 1 website & my return was denied, can I legally file on another website? Read 4 more?

To explain more, I filed my taxes using one website, for free. Then my employer said they had to correct something on my W-2, so I tried to fix it (before it was e-filed, cuz I had done them early). This time I chose to upgrade to the next "package", to see if there were more deductions I could claim. Turns out there weren't. So now they're going to charge me $50, when before it was free & my refund amount didn't change any. I went ahead & e-filed. My return was denied, because I entered a digit from my employers EIN # wrong. Since it was rejected, can I go to another website, where I can file for free or do I HAVE TO file thru them again, being charged $50 for nothing? I want to know if this can legally be done. Thanks

  • Can a woman withdrawl from birth control pills, after having been on them for 17 years? If so, what can happen?

I've been on bcp's for 17 years. I now have health insurance that apparently will not pay for any contraceptives. I'm about to run out, I can't afford to pay for the prescription. So I may have to quit taking them. Are there withdrawls from coming off of bcp's? Can it effect my periods or moods or cause my headaches to get worse during that time of month? What about the chances of getting pregnant after having taken bcp's for that long? Any other advise is appreciated. Thanks

  • What questions will a lawyer ask during a consultation for bankruptcy?

I have a consultation with a lawyer tomorrow, over filing bankruptcy (chapter 7). What kind of questions will he ask me? Is he going to ask me about things I own (that could possibly be taken from me)? Will he ask anything about what was bought w/the credit to cause me to go in debt? I'd like to be prepared...thanks

  • I have some questions about Bankruptcy Chapter 7 (state of TN)?

I am going to have to file Bankruptcy Chapter 7. I've tried everything to avoid it. There's no other choice. I'm trying to find a lawyer to choose. Before I file though, I have a few questions.

    1) I have a credit card that has a little bit of credit left on it. A lot of people are telling me to go ahead & use that credit & get me some clothes, things I need. Before I file. Is that okay to do? I'm a person that wants to follow the law. Is there one stating you can't use a credit card right before filing bankruptcy?

    2) I'll be getting back my income tax w/in the next month or so. I really need it to get my car fixed & do some other important things. It's money I'm going to need (including having to use it to pay for the lawyer). But if it's in my checking account, can they count that as "income" or can they take that money from me (Chapter 7)? If so, wouldn't it look bad if I withdrew it all as soon as it was deposited & they saw my bank statement saying so?

I want to do this right, but I want to know what all I can legally still do (like spending a credit card right before filing & if my income tax in my checking will hurt me or be taken from me).

Any other advice is appreciated. Thank you!

  • What is the best website to purchase adult pull-ups?

My mother uses adult pull ups & I've heard that there are some websites that carry many brands, at discount prices. I've done searches, but there are so many, I was hoping someone could recommend one from experience. Thanks!

  • Has anyone been on Wellbutrin (anti-depressant)? Did it work for you? Any other info about it?

I was taking Cymbalta, which worked for me well. But my doctor was giving me samples. My insurance will not pay for it, period, not any of it. So my doctor had to change me to something in the same field, that my insurance would pay for (w/a co-payment, of course). She put me on Wellbutrin. I had a friend who took it once, who stayed aggitated & ill all of the time. The doctor said it affects everyone differently & may work for me. I've been on it a little over a week. I noticed I've started feeling very lightheaded & dizzy, plus I've started crying again for any reason & getting very aggravated easily. Are these "side-effects" of the Wellbutrin? If so, will they go away or is this probably how it's going to affect me? I can't afford to go back to the doctor right now. I have an appt in a couple of weeks, but I'd like to find out more info now, so I can make a more informed decision.

  • What website offers blank, solid color shirts & pajamas for puppies?

I don't normally dress my puppy in clothes, but I wanted to make him a special "puppy's first Christmas" shirt or pair of pajamas for Christmas. But I'm having a hard time finding any that are solid colors (preferably red or green) w/out designs or words already on them. I've went to my local PetSmart & Walmart. No luck. Any suggestions for websites that offer these, would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Is it safe to use an over the counter topical flea medication when using Sentinal? Any recommended brands?

My dog is on Sentinal & hasn't had any problems w/fleas until my brother's dog came into the house. My brother's dog isn't on any kind of medication. She apparently has fleas & I've seen a few on my puppy. I've been told (on here) that Sentinal kills the eggs & not the adult fleas. I want him to stay on Sentinal, because of the heartworm & intestinal worm protection. I can't afford to take him to the vet again, just over this. So I was thinking of getting some over the counter topical flea medication, but wanted to check & make sure it's safe to use w/Sentinal & if so, see if there are any recommendations on the over the counter brand that is best. Thanks!
