  • What is happening to my computer?

It freezes a lot. It's a late model Dell deskop with a duo core and a fair amount of memory. 63 processes typically run. The commit charge usually says something like 500M/2500M, but the CPU usage rockets to 100% and locks up. Even when I have nothing open. I have cleaned the desktop, the registry and defragged. I run up to date Norton. How do I stop this from locking up 2 or 3 times per day?

  • What are the differences between cell phone service and VOIP?

Specifically, when I hit a number in an email on my iPhone, how does that connect me? Is this some sort of VOIP-cell marriage or does the number just get somehow recognized as a number and get dialed through my regular cell service?

  • Can you help me with my transmission trouble?

Eight weeks and 2,000 miles ago my auto-transmission in my 1995 Mazda Protege DX died. The garage had a special guy who rebuilt it for $1,700. They gave me a year warranty. Now, when accelerating to speed on the highway, it won't go into the top gear unless/until I let up on the gas. That cannot be good. What should I expect when I take the car back?

Bonus points for helping with part 2: Something in the top left corner of the dash rattles loudly. It seems to have nothing to do with the performance of the car. Right now I wedge an old T-shirt into the corner between the dash and the windscreen to dull the vibration. What could this be and what might it cost to discover and/or fix it?

  • Lord of the Rings-What does she say?

In the first of the trilogy, when just after Frodo looks into the pool of water to see a possible future, he offers the ring to the character played by Cate Blanchett (Galadriel). She goes into this almost black and white glowing image and turns it down. I have played it on the DVD back and forth like 50 times and I still can't tell what she said. Ten points to anyone who knows. Thanks.

  • What do the lyrics of Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun' mean?

    BLACK HOLE SUN

    In my eyes, indisposed

In disguise as no one knows

Hides the face, lies the snake

    The sun in my disgrace

    Boiling heat, summer stench

'Neath the black the sky looks dead

Call my name through the cream

And I'll hear you scream again

    Black hole sun

    Won't you come

    And wash away the rain

    Black hole sun

    Won't you come

    Won't you come

    Stuttering, cold and damp

Steal the warm wind tired friend

Times are gone for honest men

And sometimes far too long for snakes

In my shoes, a walking sleep

And my youth I pray to keep

    Heaven send Hell away

No one sings like you anymore

Hang my head, drown my fear

    Till you all just disappear

  • Why do people who do not approve of abortion try to frame the debate with spin?

For example, they like to call themselves 'pro-life', as if the other side were pro-death. Many 'pro-lifers' call the other side 'pro-abortion' or claim that they encourage abortion. The truth is that neither side wants abortions, but one side believes that it should be one of the options. So, what gives?

  • Mac lovers/users please help?

I was given a PowerMac G4 through a charity. I need to add some upgrades and printer drivers and such but I always run into a block that asks for system admin name and password. There is no way to find that data from the former owners. And I don't have system discs. What can I do?

  • What questions would you ask?

Suppose that you met a being from outside our solar system who seemed to have god-like 'powers'. (If you were a Star Trek, NG fan, think Q). How would you distinguish this being from a god? Is there something it could say or do that would prove it?

  • Serious, polite answers from GOPers only please.?

Many of my Republican friends on YA have the attitude that Hillary Clinton is just awful. They say that she scares them to the point that (if she wins the Dem nomination) they will vote for someone that they think can beat her rather than someone whom they think is the best candidate. Help me understand your position please, without ranting or generalizations. Thanks.

  • Why are religious institutions tax-exempt?

Why, in the USA, do churches, synagogues and mosques enjoy tax-exempt status? When did this practice begin? With your answer, can you site relevant law and/or historical situations that led to it and/or illustrated challenges to it? Thanx.

  • I was just diagnosed with gout. My father has polycythemia. Related?

  • How many calories does it take to run household appliances?

How does one compute going from Volts, Watts and Amps to Calories? Is there a way to say that I used 500 calories (kcal) on my treadmill at the health club and if I could have applied it magically, it would have run two loads of laundry through my washer/dryer (or something similar)?
