Well, it may not surprise you, but I love dogs. I also have a general interest in other domestic animals, but I find that dogs best suit my life because of how trainable and sociable they are. I love to read, draw, and obviously surf Yahoo! Answers. I always try to answer questions honestly (without being rude) and with factual information. If you want to talk to me about a question I've asked or an answer I've given, feel free to drop me a line!
Nintendo 3DS Puzzle Swap Question?
My sister and I each bought a Nintendo 3DS a few months ago. We obviously get each other as street passes fairly frequently, although I have many more puzzle pieces on Puzzle Swap than she does. However, when she wants to get a new piece from me, it always says 'No new puzzle pieces'. For some reason, she doesn't have many of the panels that I have and she doesn't seem to be able to get them. We have updated her system, so that shouldn't be the problem. What's going on and how can we fix it? Thanks!
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games8 years agoDo all Skylanders figures work with any console?
My little sister just got this game, and we want to pick up some cheaper figures on Craigslist. So, do all of the figurines work with any console, or do you have to get specific ones for each type of console?
Thanks!
4 AnswersVideo & Online Games8 years agoWhat type of parrot is this?
I was at an exotic bird store the other day and they had some really lovely birds. I recognized most of the species, but there was one I wasn't sure of (and I can't find a photo of one on Google). It was a small/medium parrot, larger than a budgie but smaller than a conure and it was all yellow with red eyes and red marks down its back and wings. They also had another parrot in the same cage that seemed to be the same species, but it was pale pink with grayish flecks down its back and wings.
Can you give me any ideas of what type this is? Thanks!
3 AnswersBirds9 years agoCan different breeds of chickens be kept together?
I'd like to keep a few hens as pets/egg layers in the future and I'd like to have several different breeds. As long as they aren't vastly different in size, do you think they would get along alright?
Thanks!
(So far, I'm interested in ISA Browns and Silkies. I also think Seramas would be nice, but I would be concerned about how small they are.)
5 AnswersBirds9 years agoWhat are all the supplies I would need to keep laying hens?
In the future I may like to keep a few laying hens. What are the essential items besides the actual birds that I would need to successfully keep them?
Thanks!
(Sorry if this isn't the right category!)
2 AnswersBirds9 years agoShow about debunking ghost stories?
A long time ago, I remember watching this show where the team disproved a local ghost story about a spot where your car would travel uphill in neutral and there would be fingerprints on your bumper even after you wiped it.
Does anyone remember the name of this show? Or can you suggest something similar?
Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Television9 years agoHow does the Yahoo! Answers 'report abuse' button work?
Is it an automated system where if enough people press it, the question/answer gets removed? Within the last day, two unrelated questions that I answered were removed and there was nothing wrong with their content.
Thanks!
2 AnswersYahoo Answers9 years agoWhat is this thing above my dog's ear (with picture)?
(Click the links for photos - it's a little bit gross, so don't click if you're squeamish.)
My golden retriever is 14 years old and already has cancer, so I'm not terribly concerned about this little bump (unless it was causing him pain). His cancer is not located anywhere near this spot, so I don't really think it's related, but I'm no expert. It doesn't seem to bother him - he doesn't try to scratch it and he doesn't react if I touch it.
It's about the size of a fingernail, translucent/white, soft/squishy and warm to the touch, and it appears to have tiny veins on it. It's located right at the base of his ear.
What do you think it is?
5 AnswersDogs9 years agoQuestion for owners of dogs with cropped ears and/or docked tails?
If your dog has cropped ears and/or a docked tail, do people ever make negative comments to you when you take him/her out in public?
Note: I am not asking whether it's right or wrong to crop/dock dogs - just your own personal experience.
Thanks!

23 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoWhere do you get raw, meaty bones?
I'm not planning on switching my dog to raw food, but I would like to occasionally give him a raw, meaty bone, but I don't really know where to get them. I don't know of any stand-alone butchers, and the only butchers I know of are in, like, Safeway. Do they even have that sort of thing? I would be kind of embarrassed to ask if they said no.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoTeaching my dog the 'touch' command?
My golden retriever, Berkeley, knows all of his basic commands and is generally quite easy to train. Recently I've been working on teaching him the 'touch' command, with the hope that I will eventually be able to teach him to turn lights on and off. (I've never taught this command to a dog before, so I'm only going on what I've read online.)
We use a flat plastic object and he will now reliably touch it on command with his nose when I hold it in front of him. Today I started trying to get him to touch it when it's on the floor and a distance from him. He will obey the command to touch, but as soon as he's touched it, he tries to pick it up (golden retriever nature, you know :P ). How can I keep him from picking up the object while still keeping training sessions fun and positive?
Thanks!
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoQuestion about my dog's inner eyelid?
I noticed today that my 13 year-old golden retriever's inner eyelid was much more visible than it normally is, and it was only with one eye, not both. It does seem to be bothering him a bit, because he keeps squinting just that one eye. After sleeping, both of his inner eyelids are usually visible for a few minutes, but I don't think this is related to just sleepiness.
It does not seem inflamed or irritated, but it's about a third- or half-way up his eye.
Obviously I will take him to the vet if it gets worse, or simply doesn't get better, but I was just wondering what you guys thought might be wrong with it.
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoBiologically speaking, what makes a dog's sense of smell so much better than a human's?
I know I could just look this up, but I'm bored, so I thought I'd ask the Yahoo! Answers community.
I know that with a human nose, it has to be somewhat wet in order to work, which would make sense with a dog's nose being wet all over, but what else is there?
What about those little crevices all over the surface of a dog's nose? How do those contribute to his sense of smell?
Does the darker color of a dog nose (or a pink dog nose) have anything to do with how well they can smell?
Do brachycephalic breeds have a less refined sense of smell than a longer-nosed dog, or does the length of snout not affect smell?
Thanks! :)

I've been finding all sorts of interesting creatures in my new area, and I'm curious to know which species these are (my guess is wolf spider and bark scorpion, but tell me what you think):

1 AnswerZoology1 decade agoTips for bathing my older dog?
I have a 12 year-old golden retriever. He's doing well for his age, but I'd like some tips for giving him a bath in his old age.
Normally when I bathe my golden retrievers, I use the hose and do it in the backyard where they can shake and I don't have to worry about a huge mess. The only problem with that is that the hose water is very cold, even in the warmer months, and I don't want to have to subject my old golden to that anymore.
I have used the bathtub in the house before, but there are a few problems with that as well. It's not as efficient because I don't have as much control over the water, so then he has to stand for a longer period of time. On top of that, it's difficult to get him in and out of the tub because he has to get over the edge. It's also more of a mess because it's in the house.
I know there are also self-serve dog washes available, but I've looked into the ones in my area and they're all horribly expensive unfortunately.
Anyway, it's been a few months and he's starting to get a bit smelly, so I'd like to give him a bath. Does anyone have any tips on how to make it quick enough and warm enough for him?
Thanks!
7 AnswersDogs1 decade agoQuestion about corn snakes?
I've never owned a snake in my life, but all through my childhood, I was fascinated by them, but due to my family's severe fear of anything slithering, I was never allowed to own one.
Now that I'm an adult, I am thinking about finally getting a snake. Upon researching good snakes for beginners, I've decided that I would probably be best suited for a nice corn snake. (And the ones I've encountered have always been very nice.)
So my question is, where is the best place to buy snakes? As a dog-lover, I know I would never buy a puppy from a pet store (because of puppy mills, etc.), but is that the same view I should hold for snakes?
Where do most pet stores get their snakes, and are the snakes handled often enough to be tame? Are they well-cared for? Is it better to buy a snake from a local snake enthusiast (maybe from craigslist or something)?
Obviously different pet stores will sell snakes of varying degrees of health and quality, but for the sake of the question, let's assume that the pet store is a reputable chain, like Petsmart or Petco.
Any other thoughts are welcome!
Thanks!

I know all dogs are different, and with training you can make a dog bark (and not bark) on command.
However, generally speaking, how noisy are Bernese mountain dogs?
1 AnswerDogs1 decade agoWhat is this ball in my dog's eye?
I got my golden retriever when he was an adult, but I never noticed this ball in his eye before. So I'm not sure if he's always had it and I just never noticed it, or if it's new.
It doesn't seem to bother him at all, so I'm just wondering if anyone knows what this is. You can see it in this picture:

(And obviously, if it does start to bother him or changes at all, I'll take him to the vet.)
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoAnother hypothetical question?
If for some reason you could never own a dog again (and had to get rid of the ones you have now), what sort of animal person do you think you would become? Or would you choose not to own any type of animal?
