I love Great Danes. I like to answer dog questions mostly. Every once in a while, I may answer something else. I have actually moved from working in the kennels to working in the clinic as a vet tech. I love it!!!! My name is Jennifer and I'm 20 yrs old going on 21. I have a boyfriend of about 3 yrs (November 05). Together, we have 2 kids. Rocky the Dane and Tank the Rottie. We recently got a new addition. A merle Dane name Dozier (he has no brain, lol) but we love him anyways. If you want a dog with a real personality, get a Great Dane!!! I try to be as infomative as possible without being rude. I sometimes have a difficult time writing exactly what I want to say. I'm terrible at spelling. I have no patients for people who want to breed/ won't spay neuter. I have mixed feelings about docking/cropping. I love dogs, I feel that I'm really informed about them but not an expert by any means! I'm wrong quite a bit but love sharing info.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions on dealing with people on walks with other dogs?

OK, so a couple of days ago I was walking my Great Dane, Rocky, with a friend of mine. She has a lhasa. We were walking around our little park. Well, we were walking around the curve and we saw another couple about 20 yards ahead of us walking towards us. They are walking a little fluffy white dog, small maybe 20 lbs. They see us and stop. They look at Rocky, then me, then each other and pick their dog up and we pass each other. Now Rocky has no problem with other dogs. After all, he was walking with a smaller dog then theirs was. I was frustrated, and said "Hes a Great dane Not a Pit Bull". I know that theres nothing wrong with pits. I was just really frustrated so. pit lovers, please don't jump my case. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I understand that some people are intimidated by large dogs, but Rocky is always under control on walks. Plus I'm not going to walk a 120+ lb dog if I can't control him. I wonder if people understand that picking up the dog will put more focus on the dog, plus the other dog was at more of Rocky's eye level when they picked it up. Am I being hypersensitive or what? I'm up for any suggestions.

  • Dog...hiking....Intact vs neutered? Great Danes?

This may seem like a strange question and I'm sorry in advance if it doesn't make a lot of sense. I was told by a man (non Great Dane owner) who said that Danes don't/can't hike. Now, I personally only seen one Dane hike but I see no reason why they couldn't. Mine don't. I have a 2 1/2 yr, neutered about 9 months old, never hiked. My other about 1yr old, neutered about 11months old, also never has. On the other hand, my Rottie, who was neutered at 5 months old, now going on 3 yrs old, has ALWAYS hiked. My friend also has 2 males that were neutered young that have always hike. So I guess that my question is what makes some males hike and others not to??? Hope that makes sense.

  • Dog lovers opinion on a tattoo?

I'm going to get a tattoo of my Great Dane's paw print. But I wanted some thoughts on the writing around it from fellow dog lovers/owners. Obviously, its going to be a large print. Over the top of the paw I wanted to put his name "Rocky". But I'm not sure what I want to have under it.... Either "First Dane prints on my heart" or "The First Dane in my heart" or something like that. Any opinions?

  • Music notes, hearts, and other designs?

I don't know if I'm in the right section. If not, please forgive me. But how do you get the little music notes and little designs by your name on Yahoo answers? If I could get a website or something, that would be awesome. Thanks!

  • When to x ray hips in Danes?

I was wondering at what age in a Dane (or any dog) the hips are x rayed? Or, I guess when the hip are fully developed enough to determine any potential issues? I want to get my Dane's x rayed to see if he might have potential problems. Don't worry, I'm not breeding. He is already neutered, I just want to be forewarned of potential problems. Thanks!

  • Great quality dog food?

What is the best thing to look for in a high quality dog food? I know that corn is a big no-no. From what I read on some of this answers, I am currently feeding my boys something that is not the best. I know that better quality usually cost a little more. So, along with brands, any prices of the food would be great as well.

  • Dog Food and runny poop?

I switched my dogs to the Canidae all stages food about 2 weeks ago from Purina One lamb and rice. Well, about the time that I switch the food, my dane started have runny poop. I thought that it was because he was on meds for coughing and just the new food. Well, he still has the runny poop but has been off the meds for about a week. I brought a sample to my vet and nothing was found. Could the food be too much for him? Any suggestions?

I would really like some serious anwser to this question that actually anwser it. Thanks.

  • Great Danes?

I live in Northwest Florida. I'm very interested in getting a great dane, puppy or adult. I've researched the breed and looked at local rescue groups. I don't know where else to look. By the way, I don't want to buy from a pet store. Any Ideas?

  • Why cant people see that kill shelters are a need in todays society with pet overpopulation?

Yea, it suck that animals have to be killed but isn't more important to educated people about the problem? At the current rate, if there were no kill shelters, we would be stepping on animals as we walked down the road. It is the harsh reality. This is why fixing your pets is SOOOO important! Thanks on any answers. Please watch this movie if you care ... http://brightlion.com/InHope/InHope_en.aspx
