  • Can a virus spread from one drive to a new one?

If I have a hard drive that I know has a virus on it with no antivirus (or the OS has been corrupted to the point that the antivirus is inaccessible), and then installed another hard drive that has an antivirus, could I use the second drive to purge the first one and save whatever files were on it? This is just for the sake of knowing what to do if this happens to me in the future, but any light that could be shed on the matter would be much appreciated.

  • What are the basics of working out?

I've heard people say "reps" and "sets" a lot, what do these terms actually mean? I've never really worked out at all in my life so I would be grateful if you are fairly simplistic in your answer. Also, if cardio is meant to get your heart working, why are normal workouts not enough? Like why do you actually have to go swimming or running to accomplish this when it seems like normal routines get your heart working quite a lot? Thanks in advance, I am really completely new to working out so any advice would be appreciated.

  • How do I get my parents to give me a break?

I'm a junior in high school, a national merit semifinalist (which means I can get a full ride to most state colleges), and in 5 AP classes, and I've had straight a's the entire semester up to this point. I recently made high a's on tests in my other AP classes, but I got a 64 on an AP chemistry test and now my parents are acting like I was selling drugs at school or something. They keep saying I'm going to drop out of college because I'm never going to go to any of my classes (I've had. perfect attendance for 3 years) and that I should just cancel all of my AP tests because I never study at all, even though I study at least an hour a day and never have homework because I finish it all in class. This whole thing seems completely unfair to me, so I wanted to get you guys' opinions and advice on how I can get them to stop overexaggerating everything. I mean, seriously, it was only one test and I still have an 88 in the class even after the test got put in. And honestly, with this much time left in the semester I could probably bring it up to at least a 90 even if I couldn't retake it (which I can).

  • How do you test if a coaxial outlet works?

My family recent bought a house, and we are now trying to get wifi, but the router which transfers data through a coaxial cable isn't detecting anything from the coaxial outlet. We've contacted the wifi provider and they've said that the wifi is already activated and we should be able to use the router now. I've tried both of the outlets in the house and neither worked. I was wondering if there is any way to test the outlet to see if that is the problem, or if it is actually the router or the cable, both of which are being rented from the wifi provider. Just to be clear, the router will turn on and detect computers if I connect them via ethernet cable, so it's not like it just won't turn on or something. Any ideas for what to try would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • My friend doesn't care about me at all?

Whenever I tell her any of my problems she always gets mad at me because she says she doesn't need to know about my problems. It really hurts my feelings because I'm a very emotional person, and when she says stuff like that it makes me wish I wasn't alive because I'm so sad. The pain is just too much sometimes... What should I do about this?

  • How can I get my parents to stop being so obsessive about my grades?

I'm a junior in highschool who's in 5 AP classes and a National Merit Semifinalist and my parents freak out over every little thing that happens in school. My mom checks my grades on the internet multiple times per day and if I have a B in anything she hides my laptop (which I do all my school work on) from me until it is raised to an A, even if there is no way that I can raise it. She pretty much removes everything enjoyable from my life until I get all As. I really don't understand why she even cares because I have a 4.2 GPA, so even if I was to get a C in every class for the rest of highschool I could still get a full ride to the college I want to go to because of National Merit. However, I have never gotten a C in any class, so unless I somehow start doing horribly in all my classes it is literally impossible for me to get less than a 4.0 GPA (weighted). Please don't interpret this as me saying I don't care about my grades; I really do, which is what my parents don't understand when I say it doesn't matter if I get a B because it won't lower my GPA at all.

So this semester I'm getting two B's; one because my history teacher gives us pop quizzes over material we haven't covered; the other because I had an A in the class all semester and did bad enough on the semester test that it lowered my grade to a B. Because of these grades I will be subjected to verbal degradation and grounded from my laptop for all of Winter Break. The basic purpose of this question is to find out how I can convince my parents to be reasonable and listen to logic, if that's even possible for them. I understand that they care about me and want me to do the best possible, but they can't understand that getting a B has no impact on my GPA, and therefore I should not be punished for getting one. It's really depressing when your parents outright say that they are disgusted with you and that your grades are unnacceptable when you did your best. (It's also ironic considering that my mom is essentially making minimum wage and my dad works as a supervisor on a construction site because he has no college degree)

Any advice on what to do in this situation would be much appreciated! (Please no comments about how I'm being arrogant or unreasonable, after all I am the one saving my parents 40,000 dollars on college)

  • My dad thinks I'm not trying at all in school?

So I'm a junior in highschool in 5 AP classes and 1 pre-AP class, and I have high a's in 5 of them, but I only have a 79 in one of the AP classes. My dad says I'm not trying at all and I'm a pathetic waste, partially because I play video games for around 2 hours a day since they are the only thing I enjoy. He's one of those people who will just repeat the same thing over and over again in an argument and just talk over you whenever you say anything. He says that if I tried at all in the class I have a 79 in that I could easily have an a. This is completely incorrect because I spend about 3 hours a week outside of school working on stuff for the class, including extra credit opportunities. Is there any possible way I can convince him I am not lazy and get him to stop being such a bonehead?

  • My mom is really obnoxious?

She is completely obsessed with my grades. She cannot understand that a B in an AP class isn't going to keep every college from accepting me. Another thing is she won't back up anything she says with reason. She acts like I'm a little kid and I will be perfectly happy with a "because I said so" answer when I'm 16. She's one of those people who hates Obama because according to her he has created all of our debt and George Bush had nothing to do with it. All of her comments make her look completely uneducated and I am forced to listen to them constantly. Also she keeps asking me if there are any girls I want to ask out, when my opinion on dating is that it's not worth it until you're out of college and have a paying job. According to her I don't live in the real world if I don't have a girlfriend, when none of my friends have girlfriends either. Any advice to get her to leave me the hell alone?!

  • Should I tell my parents I'm atheist?

Ok, so I'm 16, born and raised a Lutheran, and I now doubt the likelihood of Christianity. I believe science is much more likely (not sure if believing in evolution and stuff has a name or is just atheism). I don't want to tell my parents (I'm pretty sure they would either disown me or send me to military camp), but I really despise going to church (I hate my youth group leader and everyone in my youth group) and I'm starting to wonder whether the benefits of telling my parents would outweigh the benefits. Should I tell them or continue being forced to go to church every week until college (and even later if I live with them during college)?

  • Are my stats on Runescape good enough?

I'm trying for a quest cape and I just have 18 quests to go. However, I haven't done some of the hardest ones and I have my doubts that my stats will be good enough to win some of the high level boss fights, like Ritual of the Mahjarrat and Nomad's Requiem. I have 81 attack and constitution, 80 strength and defense, and I'm working on 75 ranged, 80 magic, 70 prayer, and 65 summoning. Will these be good enough to fight all the battles I have to fight to get a quest cape (I should be able to afford whatever armor is neccessary)? My rs name is Lol Ok Nex if you want to pm me or check my adventurer's log to see what quests I've done.

  • Programming career advice?

Hi, I'm a junior in high school and I'm pretty sure I want to major in Computer Science. I've taken two computer science classes and I got a 5 on the AP test, but the only programming language they teach you in those classes is Java. Should I learn other languages on my own to prepare for college computer science or just continue getting better at Java? Also what are some colleges with good computer science programs? I've taken the ACT once and got a 31, my gpa is 3.9 unweighted and 4.2 weighted so I think I have some basic requirements to go to a good college already. Advice from a programmer who has gone through all of this would be amazing. Thanks in advance.

  • What should I train melee on in Runescape?

My account's combat level is 106 with 80 attack strength and defense. I'm trying to get 85-90 for each before the evolution of combat comes out so I never have to train combat again (in my opinion the beta is horrible). I've been training on lv 69 mountain trolls with an abyssal whip and I was wondering if there's a better enemy I can train on (my armor is helm of neitiznot, amulet of fury, dragon chainbody, dragon platelegs, dragon boots, dragonfire shield, ring of wealth, and culinaromancers gloves 10). Also I was wondering whether to use a saradomin sword or a dragon scimitar for strength (money for sara sword is not a problem). Please no crap about how Runescape sucks. Thanks in advance.

  • What affects upload or download speed?

I just looked up the download and upload speed on my computer and they are both 0.19 mb/s. This is apparently really slow and I was wondering if it is your computer or your internet provider that affects the speeds. I would also like any ideas on what I should do about increasing both. Thanks in advance.

  • Should i quit Runescape?

I've been playing Runescape since 2005, and despite many terrible updates by Jagex, I have never considered quitting until now. However, the new evolution of combat beta disgusts me to the point that I have doubts whether or not Runescape will ever be enjoyable for me again when the update is actually released. It makes me very sad to consider leaving Runescape behind after all the fond memories I've had over 7 years. Any opinions would be appreciated.
