  • Does 403b disqualify from Traditional IRA deduction?

Married filing jointly, income under AGI/MAGI caps for Traditional and Roth IRA contributions.

    Spouse uses employer offered 401k.

My employer offers 403b, which I max out.

Can I also contribute 6000 to a Traditional IRA and take the deduction (ie pre tax)?

I clearly read that if my employer offers a 401k, this would disqualify me, but it is not clear to me if the 403b is treated the same for this purpose.  I found one site (nerdwallet) which claims I can still contribute up to the 6k limit to my IRA pretax. I also plan to ask my broker's tax customer support when they return to office.I am hoping maybe someone here knows, or if they are already familiar could point me to official supporting documentation.Thank you!

  • Running 6 weeks, gaining weight?

Hey, there.  So I've been stably overweight for a few years.  In high school I ran track 800m and 1600m, so I figured after ten years I'd try to get back into light running since I am WFH due to covid for a while (at home can shower etc). So MWF lunch I do a 3 mile loop.  I try to run the better part of two miles (speed walking when I need to catch a breath), with a half mile warm up and cool down.  This is in addition to a 1.5 mile nightly walk I do with my wife. Anyway, since I started running I dropped five pounds then gained it all back, leaving me 2-4 pounds over my starting weight.  My round trip time has been improving, but besides taking my wife on a longer commute to pound town (totally worth it, don't get me wrong) I am not seeing any other results.  I haven't changed my diet at all, and while it is not excellent, it isn't awful, and relies on a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables.  I know there can be some weight gain due to water and muscle etc, but running the better part of 2 miles three times a week, for almost two months, I'm not seeing any results (though I feel the pain!).

    What gives?

  • Appropriate 1065 (and K1) Entry for Startup and OpEx Costs?

Hi there!  I have formed a multi-member manager-managed LLC November 2019.  No generated income the first two, months but I have been working ~12-20 hours a week preparing for 2020 where I will.  I am using cash accounting, with my general ledger in Wave, and two spreadsheets for partner capital accounts.

I have read the lengthy instructions for 1065 along with schedule K1, and have them filled out almost entirely.  Mostly zeros :). However, it is not clear to me where the correct place to enter the following losses:Startup Costs: LLC formation (264$), Contributed Equipment(1400$)

Operation Expenses: Registered agent, domain names, google suite service, office supplies (checks), marketing(bus cards), etc (293$)If I/partner can deduct our share of this stuff, great, if not, that is fine... I just want to be accurate & correct.  It is not clear to me whether this is factored into an (income) field, or is a deduction, for example.A couple pointers would be really appreciated!  (Yes I do plan to hire an accountant in the future, help me make their life easier by not handing them a mess!)

  • If my capital gain is less than 50$ do I still need a Schedule D?

I closed out an investment account that I didn't care for which had <50$ remaining of a single stock in it. This is the only capital gain/loss from this year. Do I still need to do the schedule D? I was trying to figure out if such a small amount was exempt, but had no luck.

    Thanks!

  • Can an image from medieval era book be protected?

I am in the process of preparing to organize and create a LLC. I have a logo in mind. It is a mathematical model (picture) that was published in the dark ages. It has recently been reprinted. Can an image from that time period be protected? I know in general that mathematical ideas and plots are not patentable or protected etc in their native context (outside the academic world), but I am not sure if adding color somehow makes it trademark-able, or if the current reprint publisher somehow has "rights" to the book which is a reprint of a dark ages book which was a reprint of a 2000 year old book. All in all, I would hate to get into a lawsuit right over my emblem right out of the gates, and am curious what the consensus is, and if their are any steps I can take to legitimize my wish to use the emblem.

  • If I start LLC can it aquire tools I own already?

I have been doing audio equipment design/repair/build work for about 10 years as a hobby, and recently have been getting more work through acquaintanceship. I was thinking to start a simple LLC to isolate myself from any possible complications with the work I do for people outside myself and close connections. I have many electronics tools and measuring equipment that I really only use for this work and I was wondering how it works for a new LLC to purchase this equipment from me. The LLC would have some, but little, profit as a lot of the work is just for the enjoyment of the work, and the LLC is more meant as an insurance. (ie if someone misused equipment and it caused damage etc leading to suit, I don't want to lose my shirt, but a soldering iron and oscilliscope would be OK). I also feel it appropriate to account for what little income it generates in a more formal manner than just adding it as other income on my taxes.

Also I occasionally do Mathematical/Software consulting work and was wondering if I can include that work in the LLC as well, or if it would need to be a separate entity because the nature of that business is different?

I have some books in the mail regarding starting and operating an LLC, but before I initiate it I was hoping to get an idea of the above two concerns or if there are any complications I would need to watch out for in the given scenarios.

    Thanks.

  • What can I do if Landlord (repeatedly) Does Not Charge Rent on Time?

The management for my apartment has failed to charge my rent on time for the last three months. I have been living here for about nine months total now, no problems with landlord (or me) except for this. I am getting rather frustrated as they previously did not have problems charging the rent. I have to make at least three phone calls, starting with one the day before rent is due, and the others the following days. Both myself and my wife work 9-5 when the office is open, and this month I actually had to take a day off work to go in person to complain and get a receipt. Even going in person they don't charge my card while I am there and give me some scribbled receipt with barely anything on it. Last month they had the nerve to say that they wouldn't apply late fees (for their mistake). What options do I have..

Can I force them to run it in my presence? (Since they can't be trusted to run it independently.)

Can I force them to give me a CC receipt?

How do I go about documenting this issue (and that it is their errors) to protect myself?

Can I deduct the time it takes to deal with their mistakes from my rent?

    Thanks!

  • Can a US debt judgement be enforced in Lithuania?

... if a judgement was executed in the US in the absence of the debtor, would the debt be enforced under Lithuanian law? Also would an agency have the ability to serve a summons for a US court in LT? I am asking on behalf of a financially troubled in-law who is having trouble coordinating with the system. I don't believe he is trying to flake out on his debts, but rather trying to figure out whether he should work to fix his finances in the US or with the support of family in LT (where his living expenses would be absorbed by family). Obviously being prosecuted/jailed is not going to help make good on his debts, but as an american I cannot find adequate information on the procedures, or Lithuanian Debt Law...

Any information would be very helpful :)

    Thanks!

  • Does easement for ingress, egress, and regress imply I can install a driveway?

I purchased a property with a 30ft wide access easement allowing for ingress, egress, regress. The parcel was subdivided by previous owners (who did not drive), but they were required to have this right of way recorded with the subdivision.

Currently this area is lawn. I am sure I can drive my truck across it, but my nissan may not do so well. Does the easement imply that I can install a gravel/paved driveway through the length of my easement so that my vehicles can safely travel? Do I have to get permission from the neighbor, or is there nothing he can do about it?

    Best,

    Frank
