Assault on a minor??
A friends son was riding his bike down the road and an off duty police officer got out of his vehicle and started yelling at the kid. When the kid tried to get away from the screaming man the guy grabbed him fairly hard by the arm and pulled him back towards him.
The details.
Rural town with no sidewalks, paved road in a residential area with no lane markers.
The police officer is from another town and county 150 miles away.
He never identified himself as a police officer.
The kid is 14 years old.
The police officer said he was riding and weaving all over the road but the kid had a friend with him and says he was on his side of the road.
This incident was reported to the Sheriff's office and the deputy that took the report said most likely they would cite and release the officer. This didn't happen. The Sheriff's deputy went back to the friend of mine and told him that if he wanted to press charges that the officer was going to cite his son for weaving all over the road. My friend told him he wanted to press charges and to go ahead and let him cite his son. The deputy called him back and told him they did not find sufficient evidence to cite the officer for assault. My friend now feels like the Sheriff's office does not want to cite a fellow police officer and that they are sweeping this under the rug. I have to say I agree. I think the guy should have known better and should be held to a higher standard.
What action can my friend take to see that this bad apple police officer gets what he deserves?
