Paperwork and cost of marrying a foreigner?
My girlfriend will come back to America with me from Taiwan and we plan to get married. She will arrive on a F1 student visa, so she doesn't need a fiance visa.
What other forms will we need to complete, and at what cost for her to become a citizen?

1 AnswerOther - Computers1 decade agoHow can I remove the facebook notifications icon from my Blackberry?
No matter how many times I check all the different facebook menu's on my blackberry, I still have 1 notification on my home screen that won't go away. Also the number is grossly inaccurate, so I just want the notifications gone without removing the facebook app.
How can I do this?
And please no ridiculous answers such as "check in settings"
Thanks in advance!

1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoLinux booting to memtest86 after updates. Why?
I updated Linux Ubuntu (hasn't ben updated in many years).
After downloading and installing, it automatically restarted.
Now when it boots it goes to memtest86+. I let it run thinking it wouldn't take long, but it goes for days.
I can't get past the memtest.
What happened, and how can I fix it?
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoWhere can I practice math online for University level?
I took one of those infamous "breaks" from University for a few years, now I am enrolled to begin studying in a few months.
However, I'm afraid my math skills plummeted after not using them for a few years.
I need to prepare for Algebra and Calculus. I will take a placement test in a few months, so I want to practice.
Any ideas where I can find some practice tests or worksheets for college level math?
Thanks a lot!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade ago"Disk boot error" after partitioning?
I have XP installed on a 1TB SATA drive that has been great since I bought it 2 months ago.
Recently I installed another XP onto a partition and moved my wanted files to the new partition.
Everything worked perfect on the new partition, so I was ready to delete the old partition (after my 1 month trial period to make sure I didn't forget to move any important files)
I deleted the old partition, but now I get a "Disk boot error please insert system disk and press enter" error on the boot.
If I boot my old 80GB IDE drive (that I just use to store my important files and pics) I can access my 1TB drive in it's entirety. It just won't boot.
What can I do?
2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoChinese (Traditional) pinyin on XP?
I want Taiwan Chinese (traditional) pinyin on my XP. I had it before, but now I don't.
When I tried to do it again, I cant find it. Am I doing it right?
Control Panel->
Regional and Language Settings->
Languages tab->
Details button->
Input Language (drop down menu) -> Chinese (Taiwan)
Keyboard layout/IME (Drop down menu)->
In this menu I only see:
Chinese (Traditional) - Alphanumeric
Chinese (Traditional) - Array
Chinese (Traditional) - Big5 Code
Chinese (Traditional) - ChangJie
Chinese (Traditional) - DaYi
Chinese (Traditional) - New ChangJie
Chinese (Traditional) - Phonetic
Chinese (Traditional) - Unicode
Chinese (Traditional) - U.S. Keyboard
(and a host of other non-Chinese keyboards)
What can I do to get my beloved Pinyin back?
I see Pinyin for Chinese (PRC) but that is simplified, not traditional.
Please help!
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoWhy is my internet inconsistently disconnecting?
I have a new internet connection. My old one worked fine, but I wanted to upgrade to a mega fast speed.
With my new one, it disconnects often. Sometimes every 2-3 minutes, sometimes it will go an entire active day with no disconnections, but on average it is every hour or so.
Please no nonsense answers (such as make sure the cable is plugged in, turned on...)
My three roommates are also connected to the same modem. They have never had a problem being disconnected, even when in the next room I can't stay connected. This is NOT wireless.
It happens when my bit torrent is open and closed, with MSN open or closed, when I am active or not.
I haven't found any patterns at all.
I am using Taiwan Telecom.
By the way, my roommates are running Mac's, and I am being, um, criticized and strongly encouraged to "come to the dark side" =)
Please help!
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoAnother question about relativity/light speed (harder)?
We all know the twin paradox, if twin 'a' gets into a spaceship and cruises around for 20 years or so at 99% the speed of light, when he returns, twin 'b' will appear older, as twin a aged slower.
BUT, according to Einstein, there are no preferred frames of reference, so why isn't it possible to consider that twin 'a' in the spaceship is the stationary twin, and and that the earth (and twin b) move away from the spaceship at relativistic speeds? Then it would be twin 'a' on earth that remains young and twin 'b' that gets older.
Why is twin b's frame of reference to be the preferred one?
If you know the answer, I have a ton more.
5 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoHelp me answer a question about light speed and relativity?
OK, so I want to race my spaceship against some photons, from point A to point B.
Ignoring the problems of energy and acceleration, my spaceship starts at point 'A' at 500,000,000mph.
You are holding the laser beam I will race against, also standing at point A.
We begin. From your perspective I am leaving at 500,000,000mph, and you measure the light as going 670,000,000mph. So, logically, you would assume the light is going 170,000,000mph faster than me.
In the spaceship, while going 500,000,000mph, I am still measuring the light as going 670,000,000mph. Common sense would expect me to think you are seeing this light going (500m+670m) 1,170,000,000mph.
So far I understand all this. This is where I get confused.
Assume there is a point C along our line.
I would expect the light to hit point C much faster than you would expect it.
SO, when does light hit this point (as observed from someone standing at point C)?
Thanks.
Also I am posting another relativity/light speed question, so please look for it =)
3 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoWhy does my broadband internet disconnect/reconnect? And why is it slower than my old "slower" Internet?
I just got a new and faster ISP, and have run into two problems:
First, it is disconnecting/reconnecting somewhat often (every hour/few hours). Of course I have checked to make sure the "Idle time before disconnect" is set to "Never", but it doesn't help.
Also, my roommates don't have this problem at all.
And next: My old internet was 200kb download (don't know upload), and my new one is 10MB download, 640kb upload. Well it is a quite noticeable amount slower opening closing web pages, surfing, and downloading.
Any ideas?
BTW my new Internet requires a Username/password, and old one didn't.
Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoWhy is my new 1TB hard drive shown as the same size as my old 80GB one?
Well, I filled up my old 80 Gigabyte IDE hard drive, so I bought a new 1 Terabyte SATA drive today.
I used Disk Copy 2.3 to copy the old one to the new one.
All went well, I pulled my old drive because I don't have enough space in my case, and my computer booted up and is exactly the same as before (programs, apps, downloads, preferences, etc.) so I proclaimed success.
I went to My Computer to see the actual drive size, and it shows to be the exact same size and free space as my old drive (about 80GB).
I checked it out, the software didn't partition the drive into another drive, I just have 1 drive C: (because I unplugged the old one) that is far from 1 TB.
Whats going on?
