What is the most useless fact you know?

By useless fact I mean a fact that is interesting, or funny, or plain stupid, but that has no use to it in everyday life

  • What's the difference between kosher salt and normal salt?

Here in the UK, the salt choices really are rock salt vs sea salt (I favour sea salt myself).

However watching a US cooker show, everyone seems to use what they call kosher salt.

What is the difference between this and what I would consider "regular" rock salt or sea salt?

  • Anyone know the chords to "Silver Machine" by Hawkwind?

I would very much like to be able to play it on my ukulele, but all I can find are a couple of guitar tabs.

Anyone know the chords to it?

  • Heinz vegetable salad in the UK?

Okay, so my mother is recuperating after major surgery and as she had a very close call with not making it, she's quite down. I'd like to cheer her up.

She really loves Heinz vegetable salad - the stuff you get in small cans. I've not seen it for ages. It might sound wierd, but having some would give her a lift.

I can't seem to find in locally or in any large supermarket I've looked in.

Anyone know a good UK source?

  • Good recipe using mustard greens?

I see packets of preserved mustard greens when I go to my local Oriental supermarket. I have no idea how you'd use them.

Anyone got any good recipes using mustard greens?

    Cheers

  • Israeli/ Jewish art made out of Hebrew letters?

When I visited Israel a few years ago I saw some beautiful pictures for sale that were made up from lots of tiny Hebrew words in shapes, then overlaid with colour to form a picture.

I regret not getting one at the time. Anyone know where I can buy one, either in the UK, or somewhere that will deliver to the UK?

  • What's the best web design program?

My web host has just stopped allowing me to use Frontpage to build and edit my website.

I need to find a new one.

    Key features I need are:

    - Easy to use (point and click, WYSIWYG type interface)

    - Option to edit HTML

    - Not too expensive (don't mind paying a lit for the right one, but have very little money!)

    - Uploads to HTML format, not some proprietary format

    - Compatible with Yahoo! web hosting

My website is only a Monty Pythonfan sitee so don't need masses of flash gizmos or the ability to build in loads of bells and whistles. Likewise don't want to have to pay Dreamweaver type prices.

Okay then - recommend me one!

  • Where can I buy a wooden shelter for my wormery?

I have a plastic Can-O-Worms wormery that works fine most of the time. The problem is that if it rains a lot it sometimes gets waterlogged, and last winter during a really cold spell, the can froze and many of the worms were killed.

Someone I know reckons you can get wooden shelters (a bit like tiny sheds) to put over your wormery, keeping the weater out and insulating it from the harsh weather. However, I can't seem to find one on the internet.

Anyone know where I can get one in the UK?

  • Is this normal for chili plants?

We're growing chili peppers in our greenhouse. The fruits are about about 3 cm/ 1 inch long - about the size of regular bird eye or finger chilies.

Recently they've started to turn black.

The plants look very healthy, the pods are nice and firm, the seeds inside the chilies look fine. The fruits look like ordinary chilies. They're just turning black.

    Is this normal?

We don't know what variety they are.

  • Protection from drum nuts?

What would people suggest as the best thing for covering drum nuts so I don't keep skinning my knuckles and hands on the nuts of my surdo drum?

The skin is getting aweful blood stained now, and gloves don't help because I skin the knuckles above where they end (and I can't drum in full length gloves).

I need something that I can remove when I need to tune the drum etc.

  • Is anyone else sick of all this political sniping?

It seems you can't come on YA! nowadays without every other question being along the lines of "Hillary eats puppies..." or "Obama kills babies..." or "why are all republicans/ democrats/ libs/ cons satan worshippers..."

I was always told - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Why is it people can't seem to have a political debate nowadays without resorting to the sort of juvenille sniping normally seen in the playground with 5 year olds?

  • Can anyone recommend a good brand of japanese pickles?

Can anyone recommend a good brand of mixed japanese pickles that DOES NOT CONTAIN AUBERGINE (EGGPLANT).

I love them when I go to Wagamama, but the only ones I can buy at our local oriental supermarket have aubergines in.

I am violently allergic to aubergines (they can kill me) so obviously I can't get them.

Anyone know a good brand to get?

  • How can I get rid of spammers without an admin?

Our online phpBB forum is currently being deluged with spammers posting multiple posts of porn threads. The mods can't keep up with deleting them all, short of living in the forum full time.

Our admin is ill and unable to do anything about blocking the sick bastards, as he's in hospital.

Is there anyway we can block these spammers without having admin priviledges?

  • Need shinpads. Recommendations?

I need a pair of shinpads to wear when I'm playing with a carnival samba drum band - I play a large one that smacks my shins to bits.

I've tried martial arts ones, but they're too bulky. I need to find ones that are soft (i.e. not plastic like soccer ones) and can be put on easily and quickly without having to pull them all the way on (so maybe velcro straps), and that aren't too thick.

Any recommendations? Does your sport have the right ones?
