  • Who do I contact to get the rights to show a movie for a charity event?

At my school, a teacher and I are trying to organize a movie night for charity. So far, we're in the initial stages of planning it, and we're trying to figure out who we would contact in order to get the rights to show the movie we've decided on (Grease, by the way). Anybody know who I need to get in contact with in order to do this?

  • Why is the stereo separation of audio on my laptop (through headphones) too narrow?

Now, before I explain, the technical info:

    - HP Laptop running Windows 7

    - Just started it up several hours ago

    - Sony Studio Monitor headphones

    - I haven't a clue anything about the sound card or drivers or whatever

Now that that's out of the way...

The stereo separation of audio on my laptop is way too narrow. Sound that is supposed to just be in the left channel or just in the right channel overlaps into the middle, either that or the sounds are just not panned as far in either direction as they should be.

I tested it with songs that have extreme stereo separation (the clincher, though, was The Beatles' "Hold Me Tight"), trying it in iTunes on my computer, listening to it just on my iPod, and then once again in iTunes, and then (just to be sure it wasn't just iTunes) in a different program. It is definitely a problem with the computer itself.

I checked in all the sound settings I could find, toggling around with whatever looked like it could help. Surprise, surprise, nothing helped.

I searched online, hoping other people have had this same problem and wanted it fixed. Apparently, I'm the only person on Earth that this has ever happened to, because nothing I could find (official sites, forums, dark alleys) addressed this problem at all.

So...yeah. As an audiophile, this bugs the hell out of me. Anyone at all know what the problem could be?

  • Are there any emo bands that are really into, have songs about, or like to dress up like cats?

I realize that this is a bizarre thing to ask, but I ask it in all seriousness. It's for a Christmas gift for someone.

  • What is the name of this classical composition?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa1FnMmtulU (ignore the picture of Andy Gibb; also, the entirety of the track I had was actually 6 minutes long)

I got this as part of a classical music compilation ("100 Must Have Classical Songs A-Z") on iTunes, but it (as well as a couple others I actually WAS able to identify) was mislabeled (this one as "Bagatelle In A Minor - 'Fur Elise'"). Unfortunately, I'm not well-versed enough in classical music to actually identify this...so that's where you come in! ^_^ So, come on, be a pal, tell me, what the hell is the actual name of this piece of music?

  • Is there a term for when you think of a witty remark too late to use it?

For example, I'm talking to a person about something, anything, and it's pretty much a mundane conversation for the most part. Then, we go onto a different topic, and in the middle of this new conversation I think of some quip that would have been hilarious if I'd said it during the previous conversation. Saying it now would just suck the humor out of it, y'know?

Is there a term for this phenomenon? It's something that happens with me annoyingly often and I'm curious about it.

  • iPod touch autocorrect inexplicably adds apostrophe after the word me'…the hell?

Pretty self-explanatory. I have no idea why it does this. I don't recall messing around with any settings (and even then, I don't know how I'd even access the settings related to the autocorrect feature, nor do I even know if that's possible). All I know is that it's quite annoying. I don't even know what would give it the idea that an apostrophe after the word me' is normal in any language. (And yes, the keyboard is always set to American English when this happens.)

So, uh, anyone have any idea why this could be happening and/or any suggestions for how to *ahem* correct this?

  • What Prince (?) song is this?

In all honesty, I'm pretty sure it's a Prince song, but not 100 percent certain. All I know is that I've never known the name of this song despite having heard it my entire life (but never really paying attention to it, unfortunately). The song's instrumentation is, I believe, just a drum backing (drum machine, perhaps?) with a synthesizer loop during the chorus that sounds a lot like the Jacksons' song "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)".

Any of this ring a bell for anyone?

  • Jazz cover of En Vogue's "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)"?

So, recently I heard a jazz cover of En Vogue's song "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" (with a saxophone doing the lead parts). I kind of liked it and looked for it...except I had no idea who performed it, so I don't exactly know what to look for. Anyone know?

  • Does anyone know the name of this novel?

What I can remember from when I saw it in the store:

    - Female protagonist who works in an office

    - Story is told entirely through e-mails

    - British, female author (I believe she is a popular and an award-winning author, though I'm not entirely sure)

    - Very, VERY thick book

    Anyone know this book?

  • What is a good (but cheap or free) video editing program?

I'm looking to start making video reviews, and Windows Movie Makers is too basic for what I need to do. What I'm most concerned about is the price (obviously), being able to keep all source videos in their original aspect ratio (as at the moment I can't afford a widescreen or HD camera and I don't want to have to stretch or squish footage), and being able to effectively chroma key (though I'm not as concerned about this one as I am the first two). Being able to save the video in HD would be nice, but isn't necessary.

    Any suggestions?

  • Movie/TV quote? Kid crying while saying, "Why would you do that?"?

I'm honestly not at all sure what it's from. All I know is that I can vividly hear the quote in my head, which sounds like a boy saying in a very weepy voice (like a small child crying) "Why would you do that?" I believe the moment in whatever it's from is supposed to be very lighthearted (or it's just an overall lighthearted/comedic show/movie, or something--I don't know).

Hell, I don't even know if it's really from anything--it could be completely fabricated from my head. But I'm extremely sure it's from something, and I really think it's from a kid's movie. ...Help me, please?

  • Do people realize when they post their songs/poems here that it's very possible that someone will steal them?

Anything you post on the internet stays forever. Anything on the internet can be plagiarized with ease. Catch my drift?

So, those of you that have posted your works on this site to be evaluated by others, did you ever consider that someone might steal your work and pass it off as their own?

  • Why didn't my songs retain their album artwork when I transferred them to my iPod?

Recently, I had to back up my iPod Touch due to problems I'd been having with it (long story short, it's in the mail to Apple right now). To back it up, I used SharePod (which was definitely a live saver, since I have well over 3000 songs, most of which are from CDs).

Oh, you want me to get to the point? Okay, I will...now. I recently put all the songs that I recovered from my iPod Touch onto my old iPod (5th gen, up-to-date in regard to its software). However, I noticed while playing the songs on it that very few of the songs had album art showing up. I checked in my iTunes library and (from what I can tell) all the songs in my iTunes library that had previously had album artwork...still had it. I don't get it. I never had this problem withthis iPod before. Can anyone offer a plausible explanation for this? I can always just add the album art to the songs on the iPod myself (when I have a spare month), but I'm just baffled that the files didn't retain their associated album art when transferred onto the iPod in the first place.

  • Problem with an iTunes gift card...?

I'm having a bit of a problem with my iTunes card. I redeemed the card, but the $15 on the card was not credited to my account, even though the screen that says that it had been credited to my account showed up. I tried to re-redeem it, thinking that perhaps it didn't take or something, and it said that I had already redeemed the card. Does anyone know why this happened or how I can fix this?

(Partially related: The first time I typed in the code, the letters were all lowercase. Could that possibly have anything to do with it?)

  • What is the cheapest item that you've found on Amazon.com that was being sold directly from Amazon?

I'm a tad curious as to what people have found offered by Amazon for extremely cheap prices. Be it something small or something tall, something cool or something made by a fool, something ventured, something gained. tell me...well, just answer the above question.
