  • R rated movies and underage viewers?

    Is it okay to take someone who is, say 12 years old, to an R rated movie just because they are accompanied by an adult?

    I always thought that the ratings were there for a reason and that someone under the required age, accompanied by an adult or not, was not allowed to enter a movie theater to watch a movie that had been deemed unfit for someone under a certain age.

    Are these ratings just there for show? Are the management of a movie theater not responsible for enforcing these rules? If they don't who holds them responsible? This seems to be happening an awful lot here in the US and I want to know what the answers are!

    Any advice would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.
