I am in CA and my next assignment is going to be a project in PA where I will be working on 1099. This will be my first time working on 1099 and I am likely going to ask a very common question.

1. I know that I will need to file estimated taxes each quarter - does it mean I will be filing State and Federal and how do I do that (the preparation and filing part)?

2. I use Turbo Tax each year to do my taxes, is there a similar software or a website that provides a service to E-File the quarterly state and federal tax for a reasonable fee?

Any help on the matter is appreciated.

A couple of weeks back one of our two cars was stolen from our apartment parking lot - the car was 2000 Civic - with a KBB value of around 5K. We were in the middle of a move and my wife was to drive it to the other city (500+ miles), just two days from when it was gone... with no car - my wife and daughter had to fly. I am still here with the other car - scheduled to drive to them next weekend.

Got a call from police dept. yesterday that they've found the car and there's some minor damage to it - in addition to the ignition having been ripped open. While this have been a welcome news at another time, the move has caused a problem - I am stuck here with two cars. What's worse, is that we have an international travel (long vacation) scheduled two weeks from now.

What I want to ask is - will insurance pay for transporting the car to that other city (we had already changed our address to that city just few days before the car was stolen)? What can I ask them for? Given the circumstances (move, Intl. travel) I'd rather they keep the car and just settle my claim - but I guess that's not an option... or is it? As long as the Insurance co. pays for transporting the car and the repair, I think I will be alright - is this something that I can negotiate for?

I am a s/w programmer and have a regular day job, but I have recently started taking ad hoc freelancing jobs as well. In the past few months I have worked through freelancing websites like RentACoder, but now, I am working on a project directly with a customer (small business owner). I have been asked by the customer if I am incorporated, as he would prefer paying to a corp, rather than an individual.

I am not incorporated and don't think I really need to, because I work alone and it's only once in 4-5 months that I'd get a project directly from a customer. What are my other options for getting paid? I heard something about sole proprietorship - is that an option for me (for a person who works for himself and gets work only once in a while)?

I am a programmer and am looking for small assignments for $$. My area of expertise are Access/Excel VBA Macros, Java/Swing, webMethods. I can also help with DB Designing. I tried a few freelance websites but they usually are too much effort... I am not really interested in full fledged projects, instead, I am looking for helping with small assignments, e.g. a small application using Java Swing or Access/Forms/Excel for very very reasonable $$.

In the past I have gotten a couple of such assignments from people who I had helped on forums - it was simple, I did the code for them, they paid me half when I sent them some functionality working and then when they were fully convinced they paid me the rest - all through paypal... but right now I don't have ne work and I do not know if there is a place where I can go look for such opportunities.
