can early intervention for autism mask symptoms?
the reason i ask this is this: i have a three almost four year old son who possibly has pdd-nos or some other form of autism spectrum disorder. almost a year ago, my son was still very much non verbal. he was prone to extreme tantrums, and when he was highly stimulated by emotion (anger, excitement, anxiousness, etc.) he would bite his hand, rock back and forth, and also hand flap. he was on the other hand fairly social with us (his parents), his grandmother, and his two older brothers. we began getting him speech therapy and he has started going to "school" three hours a day, where he has his own aide that works with him. 8 months or so after all of this, we are still trying to get a diagnosis, and have been unable to do so. now he is putting two and three words together, and is alot more social. he still stims pretty frequently, but the psych people are not wanting to give him an asd diagnosis, and instead are wanting to call him adhd.
