  • Question about statute of limitations for debt collection in New York

Ok, I know the statute of limitations for debt collection is 6 years in New York. My question pertains to when the SoL ends. If a debt collector sues before the 6 years has expired, but the trial does not occur until after the 6 years, can the defendant ask to have the case dismissed since the 6 years has passed? Or is it an invalid defense since the lawsuit was filed before the SoL expired?

Example: date of last activity is 11/1/2002, and the debt collector files suit on 3/1/2008. Summons is answered by 4/1/08 and the court schedules a hearing for 8/1/08, but the case is adjourned until 1/25/2009. By 1/25/09, the statute of limitations has passed. Can that be used as a defense or does it not apply since they filed suit before 11/1/08?

  • What precisely is the difference between what Russia is doing in Georgia vs what the US has been doing in Iraq

I look on the front page of Yahoo & see a headline that says "Russian jets, unchallenged, sow terror among Georgian troops". http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20080811/wl_mccl...

Is it only "terror" when other people do it, or is the US just as guilty of spreading terrorism to millions of innocent people. Someone please remind me again - who are the terrorists? Those folk we're told hit us on 9/11 sure have been considerate to not have done much follow-up work in their jihad against us. Guess we must have rounded them all up and thrown them in Guantanamo. Hey, we even know now they didn't have anything to do with those anthrax letters from October 2001. That was all just one big mix-up & we really owe them an apology for that. Let's see... 9/11, about 3000 dead. If "al Qaeda" even exists & they really did it (which, let's be honest, is seriously a joke given all we've learned about 9/11 in the past few years), they're really only accused of killing 3000 Americans, destroying a couple big buildings (hey, our economy skyrocketed after 9/11, so you can't say it hurt our economy), crashing a few planes. One massive day of terror.

I think they refer to that as "Thursday" in Iraq.

Afghanistan... Iraq... How many US troops is it now? Over 4000, I know. Oh, and that's just our boys. How many Iraqis and Afghanis - the innocent ones who never did anything to us EVER - how many of them dead? 300,000? 500,000? Some people say a million. Does it matter?

All I want to know is: WHO ARE THE REAL TERRORISTS IN THE WORLD?

  • Who really believes that this Ivans guy was responsible for the anthrax letters?

I've seen nothing but lie after lie upon lies heaped onto mountains of lies from my government for as long as I can remember, and for at least 75 years of the history I've learned from before I was born.

I feel personally insulted that my government and media think I'm so stupid as to believe all these ridiculous stories. Day after day their reality unravels all around them, and they keep expecting us to play the game with them. It's disgusting. Practically the entire Bush administration would be behind bars if they weren't able to use the Executive branch of government to do anything and everything they want. And Congress appears to either have been bought off or scared into submission long ago.

They act like the American People are subjects to some imaginary throne. That they somehow have the power to grant or deny Rights as they wish. They pretend that the Constitution's sole purpose is to limit the rights of the People rather than the limits to their own authority. There is going to come a day when we will need to disavow our ties with them since they no longer abide by the rules set before them.

Anyway, anyone who has paid attention over the past 7 years knows fully well that the purpose of the anthrax letters was to discourage media and government from speaking negatively about the PATRIOT Act, which the Bush administration was pushing through Congress at the time. It's not exactly a stretch to think that maybe, just maybe, someone from Team Bush/Cheney went over to that lab at Ft. Detrick and either forced Ivans to supply the anthrax or just used the access that they obviously have (as being an Executive branch with no real regard for law or limits to authority) to get what they needed. They already tried to frame Stephen Hatfill for it & when that didn't stick they needed a new patsy. And oops, he just happens to get suicided, so now the government and media can say *whatever* they want about him and he's not around to defend himself. OMG, how many times have we seen this movie?

Now here's something interesting. For some reason, they were onto this Ivans guy years ago. And yet, for all this time he was still allowed to work in that bioweapons research lab. No one find that funny? Anyone? Anyone? I mean, we just convicted bin Laden's driver today, and he didn't even kill anyone. We throw Muslims into Guantanamo whether we really have any evidence or not. Come to think of it, I do recall our government insisting that those anthrax letters were sent by the Muslims terrorists who were behind 9/11. But no, the FBI says it was Ivans, and he acted alone. Ok, well then why would you have left a known terrorist free, and with access to all kinds of *actual* weapons of mass destruction?

Do they really expect us to believe this nonsense?

  • What kind of insects are these? Termites maybe?

Ok, so I got home from work today, went in my bathroom and immediately notice about 20 insects on my bathroom floor. Most of them were dead, but some of them were moving a bit. They basically look like ants with wings... well, the ones that actually still had wings... This is the weird part - I found about 20 of these insects in the bathroom, but there were literally hundreds of these very tiny, very thin wings scattered all over the floor - many more wings than the ones I saw could have left. The wings are actually a good bit longer than the length of the insects body, and I've never actually seen any of these fly. The same thing happened once one day a year ago - that was the first time I saw them, and it was the same - there were tons of wings left, but very few of the insects. I haven't seen them anywhere else in my apartment, and I couldn't tell where they were coming from in the bathroom. It's like within a few hours, they appeared then most of them shed their wings & vanished.

  • What is your least favorite Coheed & Cambria song?

People ask about the best albums, songs, etc, and it's always hard to choose favorites when it comes to Coheed & Cambria, cause all of it is so good. Which got me thinking, what would I & everyone else say is their least favorite?

So, aside from the first track from their first 3 albums, which were not really songs, what would you all say is your least favorite Co&Ca song? For me, I'll have to go with Faint of Hearts or maybe The Suffering, although I actually do like both of them.

I'm really only asking this question to people who know more than just the singles they've released - I gotta say a lot of their singles have been odd choices considering the others that should have been singles (like The Final Cut ).

  • What are the different file-sharing networks that are available and what clients are best to connect with?

I've been using Bearshare for a few years, which I believe runs on the Gnutella network, but what I want to know is if there are other file-sharing networks besides Gnutella, and which clients are used to connect to them. What do you all recommend using?

  • Should the slaughter of American Indians be considered the same as the Jewish holocaust?

Any way you slice it, mostly-Christian Europeans came to North America, a continent that was already widely populated by many peaceful native tribes, slaughtered untold numbers of them, and stole practically the entire continent from them. Are there any reliable statistics on the number of Indians killed?

And couldn't it be said that the way many Indians were slaughtered is similar to the Jewish holocaust? Were their lives and souls not sacred like everyone elses? And Israel is tiny next to the chunk of land taken from the American Indians.

Most Americans would say, "Well, that's the way it turned out. We fought them, and won the land. That's the way war has always worked." OK, fair enough. But if that is the correct logic to use, how could the creation of the state of Israel ever be justified? If Jews can claim Israel, can't Indians claim the US? And either way, shouldn't it be Germany who should make reparations, rather than the Palestinians?

What are your insights on this?

  • What law, specifically, requires Americans to pay income tax?

What I'm looking for is a citation of the specific law that states a citizen is subject to and liable for a federal income tax. Note that I am only asking about income tax. While the 16th Amendment does give Congress the power to lay and collect income tax, the 16th Amendment is not actually a law that lays an income tax. So I'm looking for some reference in the CFR or USC (probably in Title 26) or anything representing actual standing law, which once and for all states that American citizens owe income tax.

I've seen the argument many times over the past few years saying that there is no law. If there is a law, I would think that would be an easy answer to find, but I've not been able to find any law that requires an American citizen to pay taxes on what they earn through their labor. It seems that a lot of people have asked this question, but no one has ever really given a satisfactory answer.

Is it possible that we are actually tricked into paying taxes we don't owe?

  • China executed their ex-food and drug chief...?

China's former food and drug chief was caught taking bribes in exchange for approving unsafe medicines, etc. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070710/ap_on_re_as/ch...

How often do you think similar things happen in America, and when our officials are caught doing things like this, do you think it would be good if they were quickly tried then executed so that future government officials would not be tempted to do the same?

For instance, let's say the president and other officials were caught starting wars based on a bunch of lies, which cost the lives of over 100,000 people, injuries to countless more, and hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. What would be the best way to deal with such a situation? I mean, you know, in the extraordinarily unlikely chance that such a thing might occur.

  • What is the best camcorder to buy (more details inside)?

I basically want a simple digital camcorder for shooting some amateur music videos and for uploading videos to a YouTube channel. I don't need anything too fancy but I'd like to get something in the $500 range that has good picture quality and is very easy to transfer directly to PC.
