  • have an extremely aggressive horse?

I can not get ANY groundwork done with one of my horses. He is amazing in the show ring undersaddle, but on the ground he has no respect for any human. I have even had differnt trainers work with him and none of them are able to do a thing with him because he is to dangerous. If you try to work on something simple like backing, when you ask he just puts his ears back, like yeah right. Then if i start to tap him on the chest with the whip, hes rears up over my head and comes down at me striking out and choping his teeth. If i try to lounge him he is constanly kicking at me with both feet on the lounge. I do not let him run over me, i always get him to do what i ask him to, but it never seems to get any better and we just have a huge fight. I dont like fighting with my horse. I have tried methods straight out of my john lyons and clinton anderson books, and get no results. I have never met a horse like him. He just despises people. Is there anything differnt i can do?

  • hunter under saddle?

Latley I have noticed that the walk and canter in hunter classes have been getting slower and slower, without much forward impulsion. Are judges scoring better for this? And also headsets- what are judges favoring? And with the posting- should you be slightly forward? I have always watched hunter from the sidelines and i am wanting to get into it. I would like to start showing my three year old app in some green classes this summer. Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • registration, rescue horses.?

So I went to the equine rescue today and picked up two little wild things that were rescued from the killpen. One is a little filly who appears to be a dun. (its hard to tell because her coat is very clumpy and dull since she is so malnourished) The other is a sorrel colt who is very leggy and looks like a TB. Both have very nice coloring and conformation. Is there anyway I could find out if they had papers before they were taken to slaughter? Will any association look up markings? They seem like they were at one time quality horses and I would like to find out about there past. The rescue cant tell me anything.

    Thanks,

    Karen

  • gotta love swelling...?

My horse was kicked in the leg my a pasturemate a little above the hock. It is hot and a little swollen. Its been this way for about 3 days. I have put linement on it, given him bute, and put him in a stall with a walk out. It still looks and feels about the same. I know it isnt a serious injury, just enough to make him unrideable for now. Any ideas on getting the swelling down? I am going to try to treat it myself. (i know, some people will fuss at me for this) But dose anyone have a good medication for swelling you would reccomend?

  • What happened at the show!?

I took my gelding to the state show yesterday and we usually do very well in a plain curb bit with no chin strap. When we were about to enter the arena, someone told us that a curb bit without a chin strap was an "illegal bit". They made us put one on right before I entered the ring, and my horse had never worn one, so his head was up and we didnt place. I have never been told we had to use a strap before and we alsways do great. Is this an actual rule? Or was someone just trying to narrow down the compition? Any advice is very much appreiciated.

    Thanks, Karen

(oh by the way it was an open western pleasure class, state level)

  • experienced western pleasure riders only, please?

I am about to start a 2 yearold paint for western pleasure. I have always started my colts in snaffles, but I know most people start their two year olds in bosals. Is it be better to start in a snaffle, so introducing the bit wont be an issue later? Is it against show rules to show a colt in a bit? Why do people start in bosals? Any info on the topic is very much appreciated.

    thanks,

    Karen
